Stealing in Dwellings, from the Person, &c.

On the 25th ult., from the person of James Devine, while asleep at Beard's boarding house, York,—One cheque on W.A. Bank for £4^, dated 24th Dec, 1877, drawn by S. E. Burges, Sen. in favor of Anthony Devine. James McDonald, exp., late 9511, strongly suspected. —CI. 1.

On the night of the 26tb nit., from John Bryar-^'s stable, St. George's Terrace, Perth,—1 sack, contain­ing 40 lbs. of chaff, 62 marked on i ick. Identifiable. —C.I. 2. •-

On the 22nd ult., from a tool chesi: at the back of the Invalid Depot, Fremantle,—1 mason's hammer, 2 mason's trowels, 1 iron square, the property of the Imperial Government.—C.I. 3.

On the 26th ult., from the trowsers pocket of Pierie Hoghton, at the Immigrant's Home, Perth,— 1 Chamois leather purse, with drawing strings and two compartments, containing 1 <£5 Bank of England Note, No. not known, and 1 sovereign. James Lemon, an Immigrant per " Eobert Morrison," suspected.— C I . 4.

WILLIAM EICHARDS, exp., late 8972, stout, 35 years of age, Sft. 8|in. high, brown hair, grey eyes, round visage, sallow complexion, broken nose, laborer; is charged on warrant issued at Busselton, on the 26th ult., with feloniously. entering the dwelling house of William White, at Lockville, on the 25th ult., and stealing therefrom 2 sovereigns, one half sovereign, and 4s. in silver. THOMAS ALLEN, exp., late 9061, stout, 45 years of age, Sft. 5fin. high, brown hair, hazel eyes, round visage, fair complexion, rupture right side; is charged on warrant issued at Busselton, on the 26th ult., with violently assaulting William Eichards, at Lockville, on the 2'5th ult. WILLIAM W H I T E , free, stout, 35 years of age, 5ft. 8in. high, black hair, dark eyes, sharp visage, fresh complexion; is charged on warrant issued at Busselton, on the 26th ult., with violently assaulting William Eichards, at Lockville, on the 25th ult.

WILLIAM PONTT, free, stout, 25 years of age, about Sft. l l in . high, red hair, full visage, fresh complexion; is charged on warrant issued at Green-ough, on 21st ult., with feloniously stealing one roan horse, of the value of .£18, at Greenough, on the 16th October last, the property of Charles Gilbert.

JOHN EOACH, exp., late 7243, stout, 40 years of age, Sft. lOfin. high, brown hair, grey eyes, round visage, ruddy complexion; is charged on warrant issued at Northampton, on the 22nd ult., with deserting the service of Crowther and Mitchell, of Northampton, on or about the 7th November last.

THOMAS WALSH, exp., late 2084, stout, 45 years of age, Sft. Sin. high, brown hair, blue eyes, round visage, fresh complexion, scar on right cheek bone, scar on bridge of nose; is charged on warrant issued at Northampton, on 22nd ult., with deserting the service of Crowther and Mitchell, of Northampton, on or about the 30th October last.

MICHAEL CLARK, t.L, Eeg. No. 6632, at Fre­mantle, on the 24th ult., by P.O. Murray and L. Sergt. O'Connell; charged with being drunk and violently assaulting the police, while in the execution of their duty. Fined 40s. or 21 days' imprisonment.

WILLIAM BATES, t.L, Eeg. No. 10048, at Fre­mantle, on 24th ult., by P.Cs. Murray and Lavery; charged with being drunk and disorderly. Sentenced, on 26th ult., to 14 days' imprisonment.

DANIEL MOLLOY, t.L, Eeg. No. 9825, at Fre­mantle, on 24th ult., by P.Cs. Lavery and Andrews; charged with being drunk, out after hours, and violently resisting the police. Sentenced, on the 26th ult., to one month and 14 days' imprisonment; also fined 10s. or 7 days', cumulative.

BENJAMIN DAVIS, t.L, Eeg. No. 7673, at Fre­mantle, on the 24th ult., by L. Sergt. O'Connell and P . C Andrews; charged with being drunk, out after hours, and making use of obscene language. Pined, on the 26th ult., 20s. or 14 days' imprisonment, and one month imprisonment, cumulative.

MAURICE NEWHOUSE, exp., late 9255, and SAMUEL JONES, exp., late 9784, at Geraldton, on the 24th ult., without warrant, by L.S. Patton; charged with feloniously stealing from the cellar of the Geraldton Hotel, on the night of the 22nd ult., 3 bottles of brandy and one bottle of champagne, the property of William Hoskin. Maurice Newhouse sentenced to six mouths' h.L, Samuel Jones dismissed.

Fremantle Police Court, on the 17th ult., by P.C. Lavery, with supplying Mary Ann Clarke, a pro­hibited person, with fermented and spirituous liquor, at Fremantle, on the 10th ult. Fined £5.

JOHN SAUNDERS, exp., late 8130; charged at Dongarra Police Court, on the 20th ult., by L.C. Lawrence, with supplying ab. nat. woman, Hookarra, with spirituous liquor, to wit, one bottle of rum, on the 13th ult. Fined ^ 5 .

JOHN THOMPSON, exp., late 8145; charged at Dongarra Police Court, on the 20th ult., by L.C Laurence, with unlawfully selHng and disposing of certain goods at Dongarra, on the 12th October last, contrary to the 25th ¥ic., No. 4. Fined £20 and costs.

EDWARD E E I D PARKER, free; charged at York Police Court, on the 27th ult., by J. M. Craig, Inspector of Sheep, with driving a flock of sheep across the runs of E. Parker, Jun., Henry Eyre, and John Donovan, without having first obtained a certificate that his sheep were clean, or giving the necessaiy notice. Pined £5 and costs.

Incendiarism. On the 24th ult., a field of stubble, the property

of Eichard Hardey, Peninsula, was set on fire; supposed to be some persons who were duck shooting, who came ashore to light a fire. When the field was on fire a dingy painted green was seen made fast on the opposite side of the river.

Inquests. On the 30th ult., at the Colonial Hospital, Perth,

before E. W. Landor, P.M. and Coroner, on the body of William Inglesby, exp., late 6042, who was killed on the 29th ult., in the yard of the United Service Tavern, Perth. Verdict—" That the deceased came to his death by being accidentally jammed against a wall by his cart, whilst taking it out of Mr. Strickland's yard."

Cruelty to Animals. JAMES ANNEAR, free; charged at Perth Police

Court, on the 28th ult., by P.C. Sullivan, with cruelly treating a certain bay horse, by working him when in an unfit state from galled shoulders, on the 22nd ult. Fined 10s. and costs.

Stealing in Dwellings, from the Person, &c.

On the 31st ult., from the dwelling-house of Dora Wilson, at the York Hotel, York,—cash box contain­ing cheques to the amount of ^£178 10s. 10|d., and <£9 ,in silver ; one lady's gold hunting geneva watch, gold chain attached; one gold brooch, imitation of an arrrow; lady's gold dress ring set with one blue stone and two pearls; gold dress ring set with two pink stones and two peai'ls ; gold dress ring set with three or four pale blue stones; three oval shaped lockets, one containing Mr. and Mrs. Wilson's portraits. This robbery was committed by Thomas McFayden, t.L, Eeg. No. 9812. The whole of the property recovered, with the exception of the three lockets, and the ring set with pale blue stones. On the 4th inst., from Michael Howard's coat pocket, while asleep at Mrs. Thwaits' Lodging-house, Cantonment Eoad, Fremantle,—13s. 6d. in silver. Jane Thwaits suspected.—CI. 13.

On the 3rd inst., from a clothes line in the yard of Andrews' Boardmg-house, Mouat Street, Fre­mantle,—pair of boy's serge trowsers, nearly new.— C.L 14.

On the 31st ult,, from a washing tub in the verandah of J. Thomas, Norfolk Street, Fremantle,— 2 ladies' chemises, new, one marked S. Fauntleroy and one M. McKay; one pair lady's drawers, marked M. McKay; 2 towels marked J. Thomas; 2 ladies petticoat boddices, fine calico; 2 diaper pinafores.

On the 1st inst., from a bundle on board the steamer "Lady Stirling," between Peppermint Grove and William Street jetty, Perth,—woollen shawl. Description—black and white check, with a mark running through the check, the property of Mrs. H. McGlew. Identifiable.—C.L 16.

On the 2nd inst., from the premises of Mrs. Buggins, Melbourne Street, Perth,—one turkey, hen bird.—C.L 17.

The cheque therein described was cashed at the York Hotel, York, by James Devine, on the 26th ult . ; he reports having found it near his bed. The cheque is now in the hands of the York police, pending inquiries.

Lost or Stolen, on the 5th inst., from" William Grey, while at the No Place Inn, Perth,—Silver Watch Guard, with Gold Locket attached. Locket has W.G. engraved on one side, and a shamrock on the other side.—C.L 20.

On the 26th October, 1877, from the bedroom of Henry Cave, Landlord of the Eoeboume Hotel, Eoebourne,—3 sovereigns, 2 half sovereigns, and <£5 in silver, the property of Henry Cave. Francis Smith, exp., suspected.—C.L 21.

On the 5th inst., from the dwelling of Catherine Eose, Fremantle,—2 calico sheets, much worn, slit in centre of one; 1 flannel chemise; 1 Crimean shirt, light color, with dark stripes, and 2 or 3 shillings in silver. Mary Wood alias Mclntyre, suspected.— C I . 22.

Between one and two p.m. the 4th inst., from Henry Eooney, pensioner, while asleep in the yard of the Horse and Groom Hotel, Perth,—red handker­chief containing his parchment discharge and pension papers.—C.L 23.

Between 12 midnight, 4th inst., and 5 a.m., 5th inst., from a bedroom at the " No Place Inn," Perth, the property of George Towton, the landlord,—a small deal box containing 12 sovereigns, twenty £1 bank notes. No. or bank not known; one £5 bank note. No. or bank not known; one cheque for 10s., drawn by E. Chipper, date or bank not known; one cheque for ^£1 5s., drawn by Mr. Lowe, bank not known, and about .£10 in silver. Also,—one silver hunting watch. No. 59385, with brass chain and foreign coin attached; also, gold geneva watch. No. or maker not known, no glass, no second hands. Watches identifiable.—C.L 24.

been recovered by L.S. Waldock and P.C. Farley con­cealed near Mount Bakewell, York, in George Sheen's field.

Warrants Issued. JAMES PHILLIPS, free. Description—middling

stout, about 28 years of age, 5ft. 5in. high, black hair, dark eyes, round visage, sallow complexion; is charged on warrant issued at Albany, on the 21st ult., with being indebted to George Ingleton, to an amount not less than £ 5 , and there are reasonable grounds to believe that James Phillips is about to quit the Colony. PETEE DONNELLY, exp., late 9146; is charged on •warrant issued at Kojonup, on the 19th ult., with neglecting his work as the hired servant of F. E. Hassell and making use of abusive language towards him, on the 9th October last. Vide Apprehensions.

Missing Friend. Information is requested of the whereabouts of

George Jones, exp., late Eeg. No. 6335, who received a sentence of seven years at Chester Castle, England, in 1859. Officers in charge of divisions will cause inquiries to be made, and report result to the Detec­tive Office, Perth, without delay.

Perth, on the 7th inst., from Champion Bay.

Special Inquiry. On the 28th ult., the remains of a human body

were found in Mr. Major's paddock, about 2 miles from Glengarry, Champion Bay District. From the appearance of the body it is supposed to have laid there about twelve months, is about 6 feet in length, had light colored hair, a rug was spread as if the man had laid down to rest; a shepherd's plaid shirt, moleskin trowsers, a pair of boots, and a belt and hat was by the side of the remains. The rug and clothes were quite decayed, and fell to pieces when taken up. Officers in charge of divisions will cause inquiry to be made in their districts, with a view to find if any person is missing, and report result to Detective Office, Perth.

Stealing in Dwellings, from the Person, &e.

On the 10th inst., from P. Stone's garden, Har-dinge Street, Perth,—a quantity of oranges. George Price, exp., late 7227, suspected.—C.L 25.

On the 4th inst., from the premises of Robert Maggess, Hay Street, Perth,—two guinea fowls, hen birds. Benjamin Lockyer, exp., late 4771, strongly suspected.—C.L 26.

Between the 1st and 2nd inst., from the dwelling house of Elizabeth Leonard, Bunbury,—pair of gold ear drops, oval shaped. Mrs. Pilkington suspected. —C.L 27.

On the 4th inst., from Timothy Kelly's hut, near Wongong, one pair laceup boots, sprigs in soles, some tea and sugar, and sundry papers, the property of Timothy Kelly.—C.L 28.

Vide C.L 24, of 1878. The gold geneva watch therein named stolen from

the bedroom of the " No Place Inn," Perth, has been found on the 10th inst., placed back in the bedroom through the window, which was open.

On the 9th inst., from ab. nat. Jimmie Jackie, at York, single barrel gun, stock cracked near the lock, and a small quantity of powder, shot, and caps. David Greig, exp., late 7130, committed this robbery. Vide Warrants Issued.—C.L 29.

On the 12th inst., from a bedroom at the Castle Hotel, York,—one black cloth vest lined with red silk, trimmed with black braid and blue stone buttons with gold-faced tops and bottoms and fastened to the vest with small split rings, a two bladed pearl handle pocket knife, marked E. Parley on handle, and a violet-colored programme with the names "Voltaire, Hardleigh, and E. Parley," printed there­on. Also, a silver keyless hunting watch, deeply chased, No. or maker's name not known, " coin

silver," on inner case; one heavy gold albert, pattern four small curb links and one long one with a hook at the end and a bar about one inch below i t ; attached to the bar is a gold miniature horse shoe and an oval-shaped locket, chased, and bearing a shield on one side and a small compass on the other; one black leather purse containing an order for £2, drawn by E. K. Parker on S. S. Parker, York, favor Chapman or Bearer, the property of Frank Lay alias Ernest Voltaire, a ventriloquist.—C.L 30.

Between the 12th and 13th inst., from the residence of Mr. Francis Stone, Howick Street, P e r t h , ^ massive gold ring, two snake's heads reversed, rubies set for eyes.—C.L 31.

The two silver watches stolen from Arthur Wroth's house, recovered on the 10th inst., by Joseph Wroth, concealed in the cess pit at his residence, Newcastle.

Vide C.L 437, of 1877. The portmanteau containing clothing, money, &c.,

the property of John Batty, stolen from the railway line, have been recovered concealed about 1 mile from Batty's in the bush, all correct with the excep­tion of the £1 bank note, and 1 gold ring set with 3 small beads.

high, black hair, black complexion; is charged on warrant issued at Geraldton, on the 15th August, 1877, with deserting the service of George Sewell in July last. Vide Apprehensions.

THOMAS BALL, exp., late 9382, middling stout, between 30 and 40 years of age, Sft. 6in. high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, full visage, fair complexion; is charged on warrant issued at Toodyay, on the 8th January, 1878, with deserting the service of Daniel Connor of Newcastle, on the 8th inst. Sin. high, light brown hair, round visage, fair complexion, freckled; is charged on warrant issued at Fremantle, on the 8th January, 1878, with unlawfully deserting his male child William Richard Nugent, under the age of 10 years, thereby leaving him chargeable to the pubhc.

brown hair, light hazeL eyes, oval visage, dark com­plexion, scar on right leg; is charged on warrant issued at Geraldton, on the 7th January, 1878, with violently assaulting Theophilus Kirke, and did feloniously steal, take, and carry away from his person the sum of <£13 in bank notes and gold, on Saturday, the Sth inst. JOHN BAGLET, exp., late , middling stout, be­tween 4S and 60 years of age, about Sft. lOin. high, hair turning grey, grey eyes, oval visage, florid com­plexion ; charged on warrant issued at Geraldton, on 7th inst., with violently assaulting Theophilus Kirke, and did feloniously steal from his person the sum of £1S in bank notes and gold, on Saturday, the Sth inst. DAVID GREIG, exp., late 7130, stout, 50 years of age, Sft. Sj in. high, brown hair, turning grey, grey eyes, long and hollow visage, dark complexion, woman left arm, walks with a halt; charged on warrant issued at York, on 10th inst., for stealing 1 single barrel gun, and a small quantity of powder, shot, and caps, the property of ab. nat. Jimmie Jackie, on the 9th inst. This man was seen at the 10-mile Hill, Northam Road, on the 10th inst., going towards Northam.

ShoU, Esq., Roebourne, containing 6 bottles lime juice, 2 china candle sticks, 3 damask table cloths, 2 ozs. citric acid, aud 1 oz. essence of lemon, the pro­perty of T. & H. Carter & Co. On the 16th inst., at Busselton, by Prank Johnson (boy), silver geneva watch. No. 42206, flowered dial, raised metal figures. This watch was pulled to pieces by the boy Johnson, and part of the works lost, the remaining portions now at Busselton Police Station.

On the 17th inst., in Fremantle,—a surgical pocket case, containing scissors, forceps, knife, silver probe, silver knife, silver caustic holder, silver catheter, and several other instruments.

On the 23rd inst., on the Fremantle Road,—a hand bag containing one sovereign, ISs. in silver, some threepenny and fourjienny pieces, one penny with hole in, red silk purse (beaded), silver thimble,' pair scissors, black jet chain with cross, some smaU accounts (Higham).
