MAPLETON COMMUNITY PLANS
FOR THE FUTURE
The Mapleton and District Community Association (MADCA) hosted a morning for members of the Mapleton and District community to get together at the Mapleton Bowls Club to set some strategic directions for the next 5 or so years.
The workshop, facilitated by Bea Rogan of the Coalition of Community Boards, worked with the 46 members of the community to explore the future across the 5 important dimensions of community engagement, economic development, environment, infrastructure and planning, as well as the social and cultural dimension.
The community worked in groups and then prioritised the suggestions thus forming the beginning of a strategic plan for Mapleton and District. The information will also be very useful when our community makes submissions to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s review of the Blackall Range Local Area Plan in 2022.
The community valued the uniqueness of Mapleton and any future changes to the infrastructure need to recognise the village ambience.
Above: Suggestions made during the morning displayed for comment.

Cattle Egret Cattle Egrets are usually seen stalking about in pasture, accompanying cattle to snap up insects as they are disturbed by the beasts.
They follow other grazing animals, including sheep, horses, goats, alpacas, and in zoos, elephants.
Small, compact white heron with relatively short yellow bill. More frequently recorded in dry habitats than other egrets; rarely gets its feet wet. Cattle egrets breeding colonies are often shared with other species of waterbirds, especially herons, ibis and other egrets.
A relatively small snowy white egret, the Cattle egret is distinguished during breeding season by its orange crown, neck and breast, with similarly tinted long loose neck plumes. Top image. Lower image—non breeding.
Banksia ericifolia x spinulosa 'Giant Candles'
The massive flower spikes up to 40cm long are the outstanding feature of this hybrid. It can grow to around 5 metres if left unpruned.
A very adaptable plant that makes a fantastic medium sized screen as well as a great cut flower.
Birds are attracted to the nectar rich flowers, which are long lasting both on the plant and as cut flowers.
Flowers best in full sun, prefers well drained soils.
Growing successfully on the grey soils of Mapleton.
