Background• Example of Codes• 1-D Code• A barcode is an optical machine-readable

representation of data relating to the object to which it is attached.

• 2-D Code• Is a matrix code that invented based on 1-D code

Principle of Operation• Codes are using the reflectivity of color. (Black and

White have a huge difference in reflecting light.)

• White can reflect different wavelength of visible lights, in contrast, Black can absorb all of these visible lights.

• Reader emit the visible light to the code, then detect the reflected lights, finally translate it to be datum/words depended on the variable wavelength of reflected light.

Advantages of 1-D code

• Reliable: One mistake occurred in 15,000 characters.

• High efficiency: Read 40 characters in a second.

• Lower cost: Do not need high-tech equipment to generate or read.

• Easy to Generate: Can be generated by software or application in computer/smartphone.

UsageGoods code: Store the prices, the details of sales/purchases, and etc.

Postal code: Store postal content such as the recipient address.

• Store more complicated information than 1-D code(Even can store pictures)

• More convenient (Hyperlinks for a specific page)

• Multi-aspect usages (Eg. Identification, Logistics, E-Banking, Public Transportation)
