Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may seek not so much to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved as to love For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. On behalf of the Catholic Center at UGA we welcome you! We are a diverse community be-lieving that we are here for everyone. As a sanctuary for the students who visit our Center, we minister through liturgy, social justice and fellowship. Through our students presence and our church, gifts are given and received, making our community holy.

The Franciscans have been serving the UGA Catholic Center for over 60 years as we continue to be touched by St Francis’ message of peace, joy, hope and love. The Center is blessed with an amazing staff that continues to support our students as we work to answer the Christian call for inclusivity & equality by building a close knit community. Each year we are renewed by the presence of our students, faculty and staff who support and chal-lenge us in ways unimaginable. Let us continue to build a life of peace, justice and hope in the Franciscan tradition.

We are always open to new ideas and suggestions that will improve our ability to answer the needs of those who call the Center home, especially the students and staff. We are here to minister to you and make your experience at UGA one you will remember and take with you. If there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to visit with us.

As Pope Francis stated at World Youth Day in 2016, “The fact is, God loves us even more than we love ourselves. He believes in us even more than we believe in ourselves and He always cheering us on.

He is our biggest fan.”

Go Dawgs!!

The Catholic Center at UGA is a Franciscan community.

Born into a life of wealth and luxury, Francis lived a lavish lifestyle and soon became spoiled and rebellious. After hearing the voice of Christ in a vision, Francis turned away from his materialistic lifestyle to a life of poverty and prayer when God called him to rebuild the Church. St. Francis heard this call while in front of the Crucifix at the Church of San Dami-ano.

St. Francis was much more than the go-to confirmation saint for future vets and pet-lovers. He dedicated his life to becoming the living embodi-ment of the Gospel and showing love to all of God’s creatures.

The priests and brothers of the Franciscan order live out the Gospel and serve the poor, taking vows of obedience, chastity and poverty.

At the Catholic Center, we hope you find joy in your calling in life and will always cheer you on as you do. The Center will always serve as a haven of mercy, grace, learning and fellow-ship.

C AT H O L I C S T U D E N TA S S O C I AT I O N

The Catholic Student Association is so excited to welcome you to the Catholic Center at the greatest university in the nation. Being a “Catholic Dawg” goes beyond weekly Mass; it ’s Sunday night dinners, Tuesday praise and worship nights, finals week pancakes, naps on the TV room couches, laughs at the Mr. Catholic Center pageant, service in the Athens food bank and countless other acts of ministry that build our home away from home.

We pray that the Catholic Center becomes exactly that for you: a home. Our home is open to all, unit-

ed with the universal church through the body of Christ. In Him, the CSA board again wel-comes all who come, and strives to serve the students in any way possible. We only ask that you challenge yourself outside of comfort zones and go boldly into the upcoming year.

“Do not be afraid. Do not be satisfied with mediocrity. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch” St. John Paul II

I G N I T EIgnite is a faith formation program at the Catholic Center designed for freshmen incor-porating social and small groups. The program’s design transitions incoming freshmen into an exciting and rewarding Catholic life in college. Ignite challenges and strengthens the faith of incoming freshmen for a steadfast foundation in adulthood through weekly fellowship complete with snacks and drinks.

“Ignite was the best way for me to get involved with the Catholic Center. Through Ignite, I was able to meet other nervous freshmen and grow in my faith tremendously. There is something special about Ignite, the people the program draws in, and the community effect that the program puts out is mind-blowing.”

The UGACC offers many faith formation opportunities. Serve in the liturgical minis-tries as an altar server, eucharistic minister, lector or usher. Contact Mariana Rodriguez ([email protected]) to be a part of our celebration of Mass. All experience levels are welcome!

Last year, the Catholic Student Association organized the first-ever UGACC retreat for all students at Life Teen Camp Hidden Lake in Dahlonega, Georgia. Retreaters focused inward on their communication line with Christ in the beautiful setting of Camp Hidden Lake.

The Catholic Center also has weekly adoration on Wednesdays and Thursdays, as well as Seeking Water, a weekly praise and worship group on Tuesday evenings.

This year, the UGACC is also excited to announce the start of a men’s fellowship group. Contact Kevin Ronczkowski ([email protected]) to get involved!

As students, we come to Athens to learn, grow and discover our next steps in life. Through the UGA Cath-olic Center, we are excited for oppor-tunities to give back to the place that gives us so much.

The Catholic Center at UGA is proud to provide opportunities for students to travel and experience different parts of the world through the alternative spring break trips. The UGACC community works to fundraise at different events throughout the year to subsidize costs for students. These service or relational ministry-based trips impact students in their faith foundations, personal relationships with Christ and our neigh-bors.

Some past trips have included the Ari-zona-Mexico border, Philadelphia, Cuba, South Dakota, Costa Rica, El Salvador

Anna Sherry and Vira Halim visit a farm in Remedios, Cuba, on the 2017 Alternative Spring Break Trip.

Students visit the Pine Ridge Native American Reservation in South Dakota on the 2018 Alternative Spring Break Trip.

“In the spring of 2017, I had the opportunity to travel to Cuba with an incredible group of students. It was this trip that expanded my personal faith foundation and opened my heart beyond just the Word of the Law, to the Spirit of the Law. I explored the beauty and traditions of a country with a proud and emotional history and found some of my closest friends in college. I am so grateful to the Catholic Center community that I now call my second family.”

S P E C I A L E V E N T SThe Catholic Center at the University of Georgia holds many special events throughout the year.

Most of these events are fun social events that causes the Catholic Center to feel like a home. Annual events such as Mr. Catholic Center (a male beauty pageant that raises funds for alternative spring break trips), Powderpuff football, and the annual mass with Arch-bishop Gregory in the fall. To not so annual events such as movie nights, fish fries during lent, and a pancake breakfast during finals week! Not to mention on-the-spur ideas for events are planned as well.

These events bring together members of our student and local Catholic Center community and we are so excited to share them with you!
