TASKContinuity task involving filming and editing a character (who has 1 prop)

-opening a door,

-crossing a room

-sitting down in a chair opposite another character,

-with whom he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.

This task should demonstrate:

-Controlled use of camera (steady filming)-Attention to framing-Variety of shots-Continuity editing

-180 degree rule-match on action-shot reverse shot

Also be conscious of:

-speaking clearly (no sound problems)-being simple & creative-CONTINUITY!

LOCATIONS FOR FILMING

1) You choose your location over half term.

Need:

1 table

2 chairs

Nearby door and space for character to walk

1 prop for 1 character

Decent lighting (windows helps!)

PLANNING CHECKLISTFor planning you must have:

1)Idea exploration

3)Timeline (optional – put on timetoast)

Try to have captions under photos, and get a range of angles of the room.

The timeline should identify what happens in the preliminary.

It should be 60-90 seconds long.

OVERHEAD PLANS

Overhead plans have:

-the overhead view of the room

-the camera positions with numbers (for the shots)…….these numbers co-ordinate with storyboard

-dotted line to identify movement of camera man

This example is poor.

This example is good and has a clear key.

STORYBOARD

-Number each frame

-EVERY shot must be drawn, including match on action (every shot)

-drawn with enough detail to understand angle

-under each frame there should be a short description of shot

-if using any transitions or effects – identify under frame

(ask if you want a template!)
