Background

• North East India with Eight States is bestowed with abundant Natural resources, unmatched beauty.

• Inhabited by numerous tribes and communities with different dialects, language, it is a mini India.

• North East, surrounded by China, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, with 98 perc boundary with foreign countries, it has unmatched geographical importance to India.

• However, the region is not well known outside, especially in Delhi – Lack of understanding of the region has created social issues, sense of alienation and mental stigma, especially for the students.

Background

• A recent Survey by NEIim(North East Image Managers- A Voluntary body of North East based PR Managers revealed:– 87% of surveyed people can’t name all the

states of North East India– 93% of the respondents wish to know more

about the region– 52% of the respondents have negative

perception about the region– 56.3% said the necessity for special awareness

campaign to educate people in rest of the country

Background

• North East with its unmatched tourism potential is perhaps the most beautiful region in the country, yet tourist inflow is very low.

• With a very negative media perception, only violence gets prominence whereas in ground the situation is much much better.

• Diverse cultural mosaic of various tribes & communities – folk music and heart of rock music culture of India.

• Investment opportunities in hydropower, tourism, food processing, etc.

• A hospitable & cultured group of people

However, effective communication was missing.

North East Festival

• North East Festival aimed at celebrating North East – promoting the essence of the region especially Tourism, culture, communicating in the National Platform.

• The two day event would be organised at IGNCA ground, Janpath, New Delhi on 8th &9th November, 2013. At the heart of Delhi in an atmosphere simillar to North East.

• It is joint collaboration of IGNCA, Ministry of DoNER, North East MP’s Forum – the event is driven by Trend MMS, the reputed Cultural Trust of the region. North East Image Managers- an Association of Communication personalities of NER in Delhi and Students association of North East students are assisting the Programme.

• Leading personalities of North East with indepth knowledge is driving this initiatives.

Trend MMS • Trend MMS has organised two iconic events called

Srimanta Sankaradeva Movement to promote social equality of Assam and its icon Srimanta Sankaradeva.The event organised in Delhi in September 2012 and in Bengaluru in June 2013 has attracted widespread publicity in the National media.

• Samannay – A Musical journey of Integration is organised in the nook and corner of Assam wherein, the leading musicians of various tribes & communities joined hand to promote harmony and brotherhood.

• Samannay event was organised in BTC areas like Chirang, Udalguri, Runikhata etc apart from Nagaon, Tinsukia,Jorhat, Guwahati, Sibsagar got widespread support from various communities and intelligentsia.

• It has team of people to organise large events.

Audience for the event

• Audience for the Programme would include students & faculties of Delhi based colleges, political leaders, Officials of Delhi Government comprising police and administration, intellectuals, cultural personalities of Delhi, Embassies, Central Government agencies, North Eastern students and various State Associations, media and general public.

• A massive PR exercise is planned to reach both social and traditional media through perfect relations- the largest PR Firm of the country.

• Brand Ambassadors of the event would be responsible for highlighting the event and publicity in various campaigns.

• MC Mary Kom, Bhaichung Bhutia, Adil Hussain would be brand ambassadors of the Festival.

• All three are Nationally known personality and have the calibre to promote the region.

Programme SchedulesThe event would highlight the core competence of North East and would aim to communicate about region to the audience.

• Exhibition Stalls at IGNCA;

1. State specific stalls of all North Eastern States would showcase the

State’s achievement, industrial potential, tourism avenues etc.

2. Tour operators stalls wherein all NER Tour operators would participate.

3. Ethnic Food Stalls from All NER States

4. North East East Photography. Books on NE, Musical CDs of artistes,

Dance performers of NER would showcase colourful dance

performance of various tribes of the region throughout two days.

Cultural eveningIn the evening leading musicians of the region would perform – key performers are;1. Shillong Chambers of Choirs2. Angarag Papon Mahanta3. Mami Varte4. Guru Reuban Maswanga5. Alobo Naga6. Mr. BK Hrangkhal7. Zubin Garg8. Pamak Komut9. Mr. Ngawam Tashi – the monk who got Grammy nomination

etc.

Some of most talented NE singers, not exposed so far would perform. Attempts are being made to rope in MTV coke to partner the musical evening of the programme.

Seminars/ B2B sessions• Both the days Seminars/ Workshop/B2B sessions are organised

throughout the day to communicate about the region, its uniqueness and its contribution to the nation building.

• His Excellency President of India is invited to inaugurate the NE Festival, i.e. 8th November, 13 from 10 AM onwards. The inaugural session would be attended by North East CMs/ Representatives would present about respective States.

• Second session of the day would be Understanding North east wherein leading intellectuals, media personalities with experience of the region would talk about the region the way they see it.

• Prominent speakers include- Mr. Sekhar Gupta, Victor Banerjee, BG Vergese, Mr Rajdeep Sardesai, Mr. P.C Haldar, Mr. RK Mathur, Defence Secretary, GoI etc.

Issues of North East students in Delhi

• On the first day evening a special session is being organised wherein students of North East based in Delhi would interact with Delhi Police, DoNER Ministry and other relevant agencies to discuss about the issues faced by the students.

• Mr.Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner, Ms Binalakshmi Nepram, Social Activists is also take part in the session.

Entrepreurship/Skill Develoment

• On 9th November, the morning session would showcase some of the successful entrepreneurs of North East who have succeded within North East and outside inspite of dificulties would share their journey.

• A session on skill development would highlight some of the successful skill initiatives done and what is required to be done to empower the people of the region

Seminars/ B2B sessions

• On 9th November, 2013 – 10 AM onwards, a B2B session would have North East Tour operator presenting to members of All India Tour Operator Association, Adventure Tour Operators Association and other Tour operators based in Delhi in presence Hon’ble Tourism Minister Mr. Chiranjivi.

• The session would be aimed at creating business for the region, to be handled by the Tour operators.

North East icon speaks.

• 9th Afternoon sessions would have personalities from the region who have excelled in various fields outside the region would share their experience. Few of them are;

- Mary Kom- Arnab Goswami- Bhaichung Bhutia- Larsing Ming- Mr.Ratan Thiyam- Ms Anshu Jamsenpa, women Everest climber- Mr PD Rai, MP will talk about Sikkim Tourism• Neil Nongkrynth

A session on culture, Fashion

• On 9th November, afternoon, leading cultural ambassadors of the region would interact with Nationally known musical personalities about North East musical scenario. The key speakers incl- Angarag Papon Mahanta, Adil Hussain, Neil Nongkrynith, Mami Varte along with Santanu Moitra, Pritam etc.

• A fashion show showcasing the unique design and fabric of the region to be presented by the best models of the region.

Closing session

• The closing session would be on agenda for development of the region. Hon’ble PM and leader of opposition is being invited for the Session. The session would highlight what needs to be done in the coming years to bring North East at par with the rest of India. Leaders of various NER states would also be present.

• Some of the outstanding personalities of NER having contribution in culture, business, social work would be felicitated.

Progress So far

• IGNCA has been kind enough to collaborate with us and is helping us with venue and other logistic support. They would also have an exhibition of buscatary of North East artisans.

• North East MP’s Forum is actively supporting the event. Student Associations, all joined hand and helping the cause.

• A Professional PR Firm is engaged –Perfect Relations to undertake entire PR work under the guidance of North East Media Managers.

• Professional Event Firm is also entrusted. • Musical performers are finalised. Brand Ambassadors

finalised. VVIPs are in the process of finalisation.

Expected Outcome of the event

• Highlight North East as integral part of India with a strong contribution to the Nation building.

• Promote the unique resources of the region, tourism, handloom handicraft, culture.

• Musical talents, artistic talents of the region to get exposure in National scene.

• Would promote togetherness amongst the various NER states.
