At the beginning of the music video, there is a close up of a middle-classed male. His costume is very smart, blazer and he is wearing sunglasses. This gives the first impression of the song and what may be the story (narrative) of it. The background is of a block of buildings in the central of London. It is shown to be a rich area

Continuing the beginning of the music video, there is also a close up of an iconic symbol of London which is called the “Gherkin”. It is in central London, a very middle-classed busy city. As the song is called “Cash in my pocket” the building and its representations suggest that the performance of the video may be set in a middle-classed area.

There is a point of view shot as the person behind the camera is entering. The mise-en-scene is of office-type setting with 2 men on the door, most probably security as they are opening the door. There are envelopes within the camera angle which shows that the character behind the camera might be a post man or someone of a higher rank as security is opening the door for them

Mid shot of three men who are bankers, miming the song and imitating the artist. The mise-en-scene is in an office and the costume the men are wearing are middle classed, in suit and tie. It is a continuous shot through out the whole music video and change of actors. The performance is mimed throughout the whole video and the artist isn't shown

There is a close up of a Bentley toy car, the actual car is expensive exclusive and are usually owned by middle-classed famous people. The fact that they have included a toy Bentley in the music video, again links to the song and represents the middle-class. On the other hand they have included a toy car instead of the actual car which shows that they are representing rich people in a more cheaper way.

The character in the video is pointing to a squirrel when one of the lyrics is “skrilla in my wallet”. Skrilla is a slag word used for money. This suggests that the middle class are unfamiliar with slang words and describe it as another word that they are familiar with. It also shows that slang is used by the more working-class rather than middle-class

Overall, the music video subvert to the connotations of the musical genre. As I analysed on the previous slides, the mise-en-scene is very middle-classed and rich which does relate to the song “cash in my pocket” but on the other hand subverts from the rap/grime music genre that Wiley originally makes. This is mainly because the performance is not the usual stereotype of a rap video. The video is a hybrid of concept, narrative and performance. The concept of the video is the theme of an office and middle classed office surroundings. The narrative is the story line of the song which is about money and the performance is all the workers dancing with a bit of freestyle and choreographed work. The use of hybrid makes the song more appealing to a variety of audiences
