Sacrament of Baptism
Our Baptismal Ministry is pleased to help your family prepare for the special event of your child’s entrance into our faith community. Please contact the parish office at least two months prior to your preferred Baptism date to schedule a preparation class. We encourage attendance at this class well before the baby’s birth. The class is usually offered the last Monday evening of each month. Baptisms are scheduled on Sundays at 1:00 p.m.
Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday from 4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. or by appointment.
Sacraments of Initiation Adults interested in receiving the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation) may call the Director of our RCIA program, Deacon Tim Leonard.
Sacrament of Marriage Please contact the parish office at least six months prior to your wedding to set a date and to begin your marriage preparation and required paper work.
Home or Hospital Visitation Anyone who cannot attend Mass because of age or illness, and would like to receive the Eucharist at home, should call the parish office to arrange a visit. Likewise, if you are being admitted to the hospital, and would like a visit, please call. Due to confidentiality reasons, hospitals no longer call the parish to inform us when parishioners are admitted.
On Easter Sunday morning, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and found it open. Jesus was there, but Mary didn’t recognize Him. She thought He was the gardener. She only recognized Jesus after He called her name. In today’s gospel the disciples were fishing when Jesus called out to them from the shore. They didn’t recognize Him, at least not until Jesus told them to cast their nets on the right side of the boat. Then, when they hauled in a miraculous number of fish, Peter realized it was the Lord, so he put on his clothes and jumped into the water to be with Jesus.
Why is it that Jesus’ closest followers did not recognize Him at first, and what is all this saying to us? There must have been something different about the Lord when He appeared in His Risen state. He was only recognized when He called His disciples’ name or when they received a special grace, a light from above, to realize that Christ was with them. Faith gave Mary Magdalene, Peter and the other disciples, the ability to see what was hidden. Faith gives us the ability to see the mysterious, the mystical. The mystical is very much a part of today’s gospel reading. Peter, Thomas, James, John and a few others return to fishing. I think the gospel passage is returning them to their initial call, renewing them in their vocation. When, as in their first call from the Lord, Peter’s fishing is unsuccessful until he listens to the Lord’s instructions and throws the nets off to the right side of the boat, he recognizes Jesus by His actions, even though he doesn’t recognize Him by His appearance. Peter’s faith in the Lord helps him to recognize the presence of the Risen Savior. Deep within the lives of believers is the mystical presence of the Lord. His mystical presence is found in each of us as individuals and in all of us as Church. We experience His presence without recognizing His face. The world needs its Savior. The world needs to find Jesus. The world needs us all to allow the mystical within us and among us to be real. St. Teresa of Avila said it best, “Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.” Today we pray for the faith to recognize Jesus in others and the courage to allow others to recognize Jesus in us. I wish you an enjoyable weekend and a truly blest and faith-filled week.

We encourage you to call with the names of family members who are ill and you wish to have remembered in prayer. Your family member will be mentioned in the Petitions in the Sunday Liturgy for one week and then published in the weekly bulletin. In order to respect everyone’s privacy, these names must be given by a family member. After six weeks, unless other arrangements are made, the person’s name will be moved to our Prayer Line Ministry. Continuing prayer for those we love is very important for all involved: therefore, we ask that you call the parish office so that we may maintain a current and meaningful list.

Our prayers and sympathy to the families of
Mark Garcia (nephew of Christine Jacildo)
and the recently departed.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
I Was Sick and You Visited Me…
In Matthew’s Gospel we hear about the sheep and the goats being separated at the end of time. One of the specifics Jesus uses is that when someone is sick we should visit them. In order to keep those who are ill, both temporarily and chronically, connected with the parish, we offer ministers, both clergy and lay, who have committed themselves to visiting the sick. A visit from one of the members of our parish whether it be a priest, deacon, or lay person is always possible. Our priests visit to bring the Eucharist, to hear a confession, to celebrate the sacrament of anointing and to provide spiritual guidance. As a deacon and as Director of Pastoral Services, I am able to bring the Eucharist, bring Viaticum or communion to someone who is dying, provide spiritual guidance, or even to pray with the family after a death has occurred. When you are suffering from an illness, I am also willing to meet to talk about the other ministries that might be of service to you. Finally, our Ministers of Care can be assigned and committed to bring the Eucharist to you once a week. They can sit and pray with both you and your family in your home and even supply you with a bulletin! All of these visits are designed to not only meet your spiritual needs when you are recovering, but also keep you connected to your faith community. The most important thing that you can do is to notify the parish when one of these types of visits is desired. It would also be important to communicate this to your family members who might be in charge of your care so that they too can help with the arrangements. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Deacon Jim at the parish office.

The Elijah Cup
This month the Zurek family has volunteered to take home the Elijah Cup and to pray each day as a family for
vocations. The Elijah Cup is a unique way to bring prayer and vocations into one’s home, and offers people a
chance to come together as a family in order to pray together for the future of our Church. Anyone interested in
being a part of this devotion should talk to Fr. Gerald or sign up for a month in the parish office. Any couple,
individual, or family may participate. We just ask that you pray each day the prayer provided for vocations. You
must also be in attendance at the designated Mass in order to receive the chalice on your given month, and must
also be present at the next month’s designated Mass in order to present it to the following family.

Your CHWC Missionaries
Congratulations to Mark Weiss. On May 11th, Cardinal Blase J. Cupich will ordain him to the Order of Deacon at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. He will be one of 24 men to be ordained as deacons. Mark has journeyed through four years of preparation for this day, attending academic classes, formation programs, engaging in extensive theological reflection sessions, retreats, regular spiritual direction, as well as being involved in many liturgical practica and pastoral field education experiences, including an eleven-month internship. Ordinations to the (permanent) Diaconate in the Archdiocese of Chicago have taken place since 1972. There are presently nearly 550 active deacons in the Archdiocese, as well as 70 men currently in formation at the Institute for Diaconal Studies, with a new cohort beginning in the fall. The presence of deacons serving in the Archdiocese is widespread, yet still a frequently asked question is, “What or who is a deacon?” Bishops, priests and deacons receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders. The diaconate is a three-fold ministry of Word, Liturgy and Charity that is in service to the bishop. Deacons are ordained to baptize, proclaim the Gospel and preach, assist at the Eucharist, witness marriages, officiate at wakes and funeral services, etc. These are the minis-tries most visible in the parish. The less visible aspect of diaconal ministry traditionally has its history in the Acts of the Apostles, chapter 6. The Apostles laid hands on “…seven reputable men, filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom…” to care for the widows and administer the daily distribution of food in the early Christian community. Thus, from the earliest days of the Church, deacons were involved in service to the bishop not only liturgically and through evangelization efforts but as administrators of and caring for the poor (spiritually, emotionally, physically), the alienated, and those who, for various reasons, find themselves on the fringes of society. Therefore, deacons also minister in hospitals, prisons, shelters, soup kitchens, and within the various ministries coordinated through organizations such as Catholic Charities and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, modeling the call of diakonia that belongs to all the baptized to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ. And since most deacons work full-time outside the Church, deacons in their workplace (and in the world) are sacramental signs and icons of Christ the Servant visible in the community. Please keep in your prayers Mark Weiss, all candidates who will be ordained, their wives and families, and all those in formation, that they might continue to answer God’s call in their lives.

Chaplet of Divine Mercy This Monday
Prince of Peace offers an opportunity for communal prayer to all who desire to come together to pray for the sick and dying. We hope to create a sanctuary of prayer for all those who find themselves helpless when sickness touches them or their family and friends. In many cases we cannot do much, however, we can pray for our sick and dying as well as for each other. Please join us on Monday, May 6th at 8:15 p.m. The Chaplet will precede Benediction. The Rosary Prayer group invites everyone to come pray the Rosary with us every Monday at 7:00 pm. It’s a wonderful way for us to join together in prayer for any special in-
tentions you may have, for world peace and for our leader Pope Francis. The Rosary is led by a different ministry

“Peter was distressed that Jesus had said to him a third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and he said to him, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.’” (John 21:17)
All of us are challenged to show our love for Jesus and others. Discern how God is calling you to use your time in prayer, your talent in charitable works and your treasure to assist those who are in need. Remember that giving is an act of worship and helps advance the mission of our parish and greater Church.

Have You Considered Electronic Giving?
We offer Electronic Giving for your Sunday Stewardship contributions, either by direct debit from your bank account or credit card, on a monthly or weekly basis. A form is available on our parish website or in the gathering space kiosk. After signing up, never worry about forgetting your envelope again! It also continues your support to Prince of Peace when you are out of town or on vacation.
There are cards available on the credenza in the gathering space that say, “I Support the Parish through Electronic Giving.” You can pick one up before Mass and place it in the collection basket instead of your envelope.
Parishioners who donate electronically to the Sunday collection receive a quarterly envelope packet, which contains envelopes for any special collections (i.e. Sharing Parish, St. Vincent de Paul & Archdiocesan collections) rather than the full monthly packet you receive now. Providing you with this new quarterly packet results in a savings to the parish.
The Elizabeth Ministry - The Roses Tell the Story
From those seeking God’s gift of life through pregnancy to the blessing of a new birth, become a part of the Rosebud program. Visit the Elizabeth Ministry alcove in the church near the statue of St. Gerard. Fill out a card and place a rose in the vase to request prayers. The Elizabeth Ministers will do the rest. Yellow rose for those desperately trying to conceive. White rose indicates a heartbreaking loss. Pink rose represents the joy of preganancy. Red rose celebrates the birth of a child.

“On receiving the Nobel Prize for Peace, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta had the courage to say to the
leaders of political communities: ‘If we let a mother kill the fruit of her womb, what is left to us? It is the principle of abortion that endangers peace in the world’. It is true! There can be no true peace without respect for life, especially if it is innocent and defenseless as is that of the unborn child. Elementary coherence requires those who seek peace to safeguard life. No pro-peace activity can be effective unless attacks on life at all its stages, from conception until natural death, are as energetically opposed.” (St. John Paul II To The Members Of The Italian Pro-Life Movement, 22 May 2003)

Join Us for Discovery...
How much care do we give to our spiritual selves? How much do we invest in our spiritual health? A spiritual retreat helps give us direction in our spiritual lives, in order to tune into and better know God’s plan for us. A Spiritual Retreat is for those who: seek to be closer to the Lord; seek a stronger prayer life; have been away from church life; wish to overcome personal problems; seek peace of mind and heart; seek guidance in their spiritual journey.
The Redemptorist Retreat Center in Oconomowoc, WI is a place to rest, reflect, contemplate, and enhance your spirituality. It is staffed and owned by the Redemptorists, a Catholic religious community of men committed to the charism of their founder, St. Alphonsus Liguori. They offer a variety of men’s and women’s retreats.
Visit redemptoristretreat.org for more information.
