“I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent. And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.” Luke 4:43-44.
This Sunday, we are asked to leave Mass and to proclaim the word of God. How many of us leave and keep this on our minds as we go through our day? The Lord is inviting us to be so bold and courageous and share the good news. How many of us have the courage to do this? How many of us take that challenge seriously?
In our region, we have a group of young mothers who get together for the St. Cecilia’s Mom group. This group is made up of mothers and children from our parishes that gather to pray together, and do spiritual readings and studies. They watch each other’s children so they can go to confession, and they are there to support each other. God has led them to a ministry where they affect their children’s lives and development. These mothers show their children how much they value the Lord. Although the children are only imitating their mothers, one day if they are formed, they will grow in their own relationship with God.
I admire the work these mothers do each day. Although many days I am sure they are tired or have not had a break in weeks, they continue to bring them to Mass and to work on their own faith lives. They are doing courageous work by going out into the world and proclaiming the word. In later years, these mothers will send their children out into the world to continue that work.
Let us pray for this time in these young mother’s lives and use them as examples of pushing ourselves to also proclaim the word each day in the ministries God has given us.
Amen? Amen.

Banquet for LifeFor the first time, Pregnancy Center East’s Ban-quet For Life will be virtual. Join them on Mon-day, April 26 at 7:00 pm. Enjoy a lively, inspiring evening from the comfort of your home with keynote speakers, the Benham Brothers. Twin brothers, David and Jason Benham, are former professional baseball players, nationally acclaimed entrepreneurs, and best-selling authors. Their success eventually landed them a straight to series reality show with HGTV in 2014, yet the show was abruptly cancelled when activist groups pressured the network to fire them because of their com-mitment to biblical values. The brothers walked away and said, “If our faith cost us a reality show, then so be it.” Appearing on FOX Business, ABC’s Nightline, CNN, FOX News, and Good Morning America the brothers encourage people to stand for what they believe, whatever the cost.
You’ll also meet a client, Lindsay, who shares her story of tragedy and triumph.
To get more information and to join in the banquet, visit SupportPCE.com. Contact Karen at [email protected] or (513) 236-8006, or Anne at [email protected] or (513) 207-1631 with any questions.

Catechesis (kat’i-ke’sis) n.The Four Ends of the Sacrifice of the MassThe Mass is a sacrifice. The four ends or reasons of sacrifice are adora-tion, atonement, thanksgiving, and petition. Under the old law, different sacrifices were prescribed for each of these ends. In the new covenant, Christ replaces the Old Testament sacrifices with his one perfect sacrifice on the cross. This same one perfect sacrifice is re-presented to us every time the Mass is celebrated. Christ is both the priest and the victim of this sacrifice. Thus, the four ends of sacrifice are fulfilled in this way in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass:
Adoration – The sacrifice of God’s only Son is the only truly worthy gift we can offer Him in honor and adoration.Atonement – Through the sacrifice of the Mass, we apply the Blood of Christ for the forgiveness of our sins.Thanksgiving – Through Christ we offer most efficiently our thanks and praise for all the many benefits we receive.Petition – Through Christ’s intercession we hope to obtain the assis-tance of God’s grace for our intentions.
We must realize that the Mass is not merely a religious service or a Scripture class; it is in reality a experience of heaven on earth. In the Mass our God is made present to us and we worship and adore Him in spirit and in truth.
Know your SaintsSt. Ignatius of Antioch (~ d. 107)Born in Syria, Ignatius converted to Christianity and eventually became bishop of Antioch. In the year 107, Emperor Trajan visited Antioch and forced the Chris-tians there to choose between death and apostasy. Igna-
tius would not deny Christ and thus was condemned to be put to death in Rome.
Ignatius is well known for the seven letters he wrote on the long journey from Antioch to Rome. Five of these letters are to church-
es in Asia Minor; they urge the Christians there to remain faithful to God and to obey their superiors. He warns them against heretical doctrines, providing them with the solid truths of the Christian faith.
The sixth letter was to Polycarp, bishop of Smyrna, who was later martyred for the faith. The final letter begs the Christians in Rome not to try to stop his mar-tyrdom. “The only thing I ask of you is to allow me to offer the libation of my blood to God. I am the wheat of the Lord; may I be ground by the teeth of the beasts to become the immaculate bread of Christ.”
Ignatius bravely met the lions in Circus Maximus.
“To believe in a God means to realize that the facts of the world are not the whole story. To believe in a God means
to realize that life has a meaning.” – Ludwig Wittgenstein

Mass IntentionsIf you have any particular intentions for which you would like to have a Mass offered, please contact your parish office. Intentions are often requested for those who have died, but may include any kind of need that your or someone you know is experiencing for which prayer is needed.
Marriage Annulments The Catholic Church dedicates much time and effort to prepare couples for marriage. However, despite the couples’ best efforts, unfortunately a marriage union sometimes fails to reach fulfillment for both parties and may end in a civil divorce. The Catholic Church has mechanisms and processes in place to assist people in these situations, especially if they anticipate another marriage.
If you find yourself in this circumstance, we would like to help. To learn more about how to get assistance, please contact Joe Fondacaro in our pastoral region at 871-5757, ext. 222, or at [email protected]. All inquiries are kept in strict confidence.

Easter at St. AnthonyEaster was beautiful at St. Anthony. The church was beautifully decorated with a lot of hard work and that work showed. We had over a hundred people for Mass. The easter candle was blessed, the baptismal water was blessed, the people renewed their baptismal promises and were sprinkled with the new baptismal water. It was a full Easter celebration in Madisonville.
The Good ShepherdThe concept of a shepherd in the 1st Century was not a really positive one. Shepherds were some of the poorest of the poor. They lived in the fields with the sheep and, when it was cool out, slept with the sheep for warmth. Whenever they came into towns or villages, the smell alerted local residents of their presence.
This is why, in Luke’s Gospel, the first announcement of the birth of the Messiah was to shepherds. They represented the “Anawim” – The Poor of Yahweh, those who had not abandoned their faith in Babylon and were willing to return to Jerusalem after the exile to rebuild the temple.
Remember also that David was a shepherd with his father’s flocks when Samuel called him and anointed him King. The Good Shepherd, then, is the one who identifies with the faithful remnant of the People of the Covenant and also the one who inherits the mantel of David. Just as the Most High God looked after the poor in Babylon and brought them back to the promised land, so too in this image does Jesus spare no effort to care for the Little ones who have remained faithful – as did his Father and the great King David.
When we celebrate this feast today, we join the ranks of the faithful disciples throughout the ages who have great trust in the One who loves us and looks after us, even when we stray. It is a celebration of the faithfulness of God’s love for his people as they stumble and wander seeking a return to the promised land in the eternal temple of the Most High God.
Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima First Saturday GroupYou are invited to join the men and women who are consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, responding to Jesus and Mary’s request at Fatima for reparation to Mary’s Immaculate Heart through the Five First Saturday’s Devotion.
