Mary, the Mother of God, is our first Holy Day of Obligation of the year. We celebrate this feast day because Mary bore the Christ child, giving us another year and renewal of life. She, who never hesitated to do God’ will, gave us such a great role model of living His will and not ours. She is the greatest example of selfless love. A mother’s love. May we become more like her each day as we start a new year.
Prayer after Communion: Father, as we proclaim the Virgin Mary to be the Mother of Christ and the Mother of the Church, may our communion with her Son bring us to salvation.
Amen? Amen.

The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of GodJA N UA RY 1, 2020
Bicentennial Marian PilgrimageThe pilgrimage begins Sunday, May 16, 2021 with a Mass at the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Russells Point in the Northern area of the Archdiocese. From there, a small group of pilgrims will begin this holy pilgrimage with a special statue of Our Lady of Fatima, blessed by Archbishop Schnurr for this occasion. The pilgrimage will last for 33 days, making stops at parishes in every deanery of the Archdiocese, and will be highlighted by four
cornerstone family events. The pilgrimage will end at the steps of the Cathe-dral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains on the day of the bicentennial, Sat., June 19, 2021 where the Archbishop will re-consecrate the Archdiocese to Jesus through Mary. Please go to the website to find out more information.

33 Days to Morning GloryI have recommended this book to our parishes for years and still love it. This is a great book to read and keep you focused on the Blessed Mother and how she has worked in the lives of so many saints to unite them with her Son.

1 | THANK YOU 20TH CENTURY. I want to thank Mark Rogers and The 20th Century for the wonderful signage for my dad’s reception after his funeral. It meant a lot to my family.
2 | BAMBINELLI BLESSING. I’m so glad so many people were able to bring their Baby Jesus’ figures from their nativity sets to be blessed at the Masses on the third Sunday of Advent. Someone brought all of their figures from each of their sets!
3 | WELCOME CHILD OF GOD. Welcome Naomi Henderson, daughter of Francis Slonkosy and Emily Smith.
4 | CONGRATULATIONS! Michael and Becca Bissonnette celebrated the sacrament of matrimony on Sat., Dec. 12. Please keep them in your prayers as they start this new journey!
5 | FAMILY OF FAITH JESUS’ BIRTHDAY PARTY. Our preschool class in the Family of Faith program had a special Birthday Party for Baby Jesus. We have some really wonderful learning activities going on in our FOF program and I feel so blessed to have so many parents bringing their children and also learning along with them.
6 | OLG PROCESSION. Fr. Jacob took a group on a procession for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It was a little rainy but that did not stop a nice size group from walking in the procession. We got some nice compliments and some had never seen some of the beautiful churches they stopped at along the way and were very moved by them. What a gift it was to be able to pray!

Wisdom of the FathersBe satisfied with enough.
It’s easy to have more than enough to get by, says St. Ambrose. But lust and greed always want more. Control them, and you’ll find that you live in abundance.
If you want to be rich, you must be poor. Then you will be rich in everything, if you are poor in spirit. It isn’t property that makes you rich, but the spirit.
There are those who humble themselves in the midst of abundant riches, and they act rightly and prudently. For the law of nature is rich enough for everyone, and according to that law you can soon find more than enough for yourself. But for lust, abundance of riches is still poverty.
So poverty is not in nature, but in our own feelings. It’s easy for nature to find itself rich, but hard for lust. The more a man gains, the more he wants to gain, and he burns with a kind of drunkenness from his lusts.
- St. Ambrose, Letter 63, 90
IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER…Have I given my own fate completely into God’s hands? Do I put too much emphasis on gaining more – whether it’s possessions or influence or any other worldly things? Do I put as much energy in my soul as I do in making money?
CLOSING PRAYERFather, you provide for all your creation. Let the living bread I receive from heaven give me strength to work for what I need and to give my help to my sisters and brothers who are still hungry.
Quote of the WeekBe sober and hard-working people; avoid all vanity of dress that will exclude you from heaven; try to keep to the simplicity of manners of our fathers. – Nicholas of flu
Winter Faith Formation StudyIn The Beginning: An Introduction to St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body• An 8-week Study featuring Michael Grasinski, President of
Ruah Woods Press• Mondays starting January 4th from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at St.
Cecilia Parish (Commons)• Material Cost: $25
Presented by Michael Grasinski, this class will take you on a jour-ney into the life of the beloved Pope, St. John Paul II and his series of Wednesday audiences known as the Theology of the Body.
Throughout this study you will be immersed in scripture as well as the key ideas, terms, and overall framework that com-prises the life-changing teaching of St. John Paul II. Following the lead of Mary Healy, the class will utilize the book Men & Women are From Eden as a primary guide with many references to the original text and commentaries. Comprised of both pre-sentation and breakout session formats, the class will teach and engage in a way that will allow you to see yourself and others through the lens of God’s original plan for humanity. You will leave with a stronger sense of what it means to be a human per-son made in the image and likeness of God, by love and for love.
Mass IntentionsIf you have any particular intentions for which you would like to have a Mass offered, please contact your parish office. Intentions are often requested for those who have died, but may include any kind of need that your or someone you know is experiencing for which prayer is needed.

A CHRISTMAS WISHFr. Jamie has had a dream of an expanded play area – with fun equipment for ALL the children of the parish – since the last playset was removed for safety purposes eight years ago.
The Finance Committee has approved this capital expense and have directed that monies from our Christmas collection be used to finance this development.
The playground will be located on the Taylor Avenue side of the prop-erty which will make it available for school as well as the convenient use for children during parish socials held in the Commons.
St. Cecilia parishioners are always very generous to the parish at Christ-mas time. Please consider a special gift this Christmas to the parish for our children. Your gift will bring much joy and smiles to many faces.
Special considerations need to be taken in the planning process to create an easily accessible and safe harbor for play.
