Step 1—Priority Registration

The student will use the program of study in the University Catalog and their personal transcript (available in CAMS) to select the courses appropriate for their major and/or minor. The student will make an appointment with their advisor to have the schedule reviewed; appointments begin on March 13, 2017  The advisor will review the schedule and make sugges ons. If in agreement, the advisor will allow student access to registra on. If the advisor does not agree with the schedule and the student does not want to make altera ons, the advisor will allow access to registra on and officially note the disapproval in the student’s file. Please see special online registra on instruc ons on our website www.cumberland.edu/student‐resources.  During the appropriate  me period, the student will log in to CAMS and register for the selected courses. Follow the steps in the CU Register that will include informa on about Student Financial Services, Residence Life, Student Life, and Business Office requirements. When this process is complete, students will be priority registered for spring classes.  Classes are filled on a first‐come, first‐served basis, by  the number of credit  hours  earned.  Students  are  encouraged  to  take  advantage  of Priority Registra on. 

Step 2—Student Financial Services (MH-103)

If you had ANY type of Cumberland University financial aid (scholarships, grants, loans, work‐study, etc) during the SP‐17 semester, you should do the following:  

Review your FA‐17 schedule and determine if your pending 

financial aid is correct. 

Are all loan amounts correct? This includes student loans, PLUS 

loans, and alterna ve loans. 

Are all scholarships listed? 

Are all grants listed? 

Will your spring grades, GPA, grade level, etc. change your fall 

2017 financial aid?  If any pending aid is not correct, or if any aid is not listed on your statement, contact the Student Financial Services Office (MH‐103) to complete any required forms or documenta on, including spring 2017 loan applica ons.  The Student Financial Services Staff can also be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at 615‐547‐1399. 

The 2017‐2018 FAFSA should be completed between October 1 

and January 17, 2017 for fall 2017. 

Some grant and scholarship’s eligibility require the FAFSA to be 

completed by certain dates to be eligible. 

The FAFSA is required for any aid, including loans that will be 

awarded for the fall 2017 semester.

Step 3—University Business Office (MH-109)

Student billing statements may be viewed in the student ePortal at h p://charlie.cumberland.edu/estudent/login.asp. Click on “My Ledger” and be sure to select the appropriate term (in the top le  corner of the page). The Student billing statement will include tui on and fee charges, housing charges if student is living on campus, and pending financial aid. (Please note that es mated loan amount is the amount available. If you have es mated loans, you must see Financial Aid (MH‐103) to accept loans and complete loan paperwork before you can make payment or payment arrangements.) Make sure all classes (check “My Schedule” on your ePortal) and all charges on “My Ledger” are correct.   

PAYMENT OR PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS 

Payment or payment arrangements must be made before the published deadlines to avoid a late fee or having your schedule dropped. Registra on will not be complete and students cannot a end classes un l all tui on and fees are paid in US funds or appropriate payment arrangements have been made in the Business Office. All students must have all charges paid or appropriate payment arrangements made prior to moving into a residence hall, par cipa ng in academic or athle c ac vi es and func ons, or receiving other University privileges.  

Payments may be made online by credit card, debit card or electronic check in your ePortal  h p://charlie.cumberland.edu/estudent/login.asp by clicking on the “Make Payment” bu on on your ledger.  Payments may also be made in person in the Business Office in Memorial Hall, Rooms 109A, 109E, and 109F. Checks should be made payable to Cumberland University and include the student’s University ID number on the face of the check. The University also accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit or debit cards.   

MONTHLY PAYMENTS 

Students may make monthly payments by enrolling in the FACTS payment plan.  Contracts may be completed online at h p://www.cumberland.edu/admissions/financial‐aid/e_cashier.html   Payments are automa cally withdrawn from a checking or savings account, or charged to a credit or debit card on the 5th or the 20th of each month.  An enrollment fee of $35 for one semester or $50 for combined Fall/Spring semesters is automa cally processed at the  me of enrollment.  The sooner students enroll in the payment plan, the more op ons for the number of months to pay are available. Students must have all balances paid before the end of each semester.  

THIRD PARTY PROMISSORY NOTE 

CU also offers a deferred payment plan to those students whose employer/responsible party has agreed to pay for their classes. Each semester, students must sign a third‐party promissory note sta ng the employer/responsible party will pay the balance upon comple on of classes at the end of the semester. These students must also submit a signed statement each semester from their employer on company le erhead outlining the amounts the employer will pay and the requirements (GPA, number of credit hours, etc.). Contact the Business Office at [email protected] to arrange for this payment op on.  Students with a balance of more than one semester in arrears will not be permi ed to register for further classes un l the account is paid. 

STUDENT REFUNDS 

If a student has a credit balance a er all charges are applied, the student may receive a refund. Refunds cannot be processed un l a endance is verified in all classes and loan funds are received.  Loan funds are received at various  mes. Refunds can be processed by electronic funds transfer (EFT) directly to the student bank account or by paper check. The EFT op on is the fastest and more convenient method and students will automa cally receive an email when the EFT is processed. See instruc ons below for enrolling in EFT. Paper checks are issued for those not enrolled in EFT and generally take an extra day for processing. Paper checks are available for pick up in the business office for students who are taking classes on campus or by mail to off campus students. Students should check their ePortal to see when a Refund with a check number is posted to their account for pickup.

Select “Make Payment” on the right side of the screen. (You are NOT making a payment, just accessing the next screen.)  Note:  If the “Make Payment” is not displayed, please email [email protected]

Select “Enroll in eRefund” on the le  side of the screen.

REMINDERS!  

The Business Office Staff do NOT have access to student ePortal accounts or student bank informa on. Once enrolled, all refunds payable to the student will be EFT to the bank account set up.  It is not necessary to enroll each semester. You will remain enrolled in EFT unless you withdraw from the process. If your bank account informa on needs to be updated for any reason, you must make the updates. 

If you change your last name a er enrolling in EFT, please email [email protected] to have your name updated. You may withdraw from EFT at any  me by following the same steps above. Refunds to Parents (from PLUS loan funds, etc.) cannot be processed by EFT.  

DISCLOSURE STATEMENT 

Should any pending credits to a student’s account fail to materialize, or for any other reason a balance due results, the student is responsible for the balance. In the event the account remains unpaid and is referred to a collec on agency, the student will also be responsible for all collec on agency fees and/or a orney fees associated with collec ons.

RELEASE OF INFORMATION The University complies with all provisions of the Family Educa on Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 dealing with the release of educa on records. No informa on, except directory informa on, contained in any student’s records is released to persons outside the University or to unauthorized persons on the campus without the wri en consent of the student. The University reserves the right not to release directory informa on. Directory informa on includes name, home address, school address, telephone lis ng, major field of study, par cipa on in officially recognized ac vi es and sports, weight and height of members of the athle c team, dates of a endance, Deans List, degrees and awards received, and the most recent previous educa onal ins tu on a ended. This informa on may be released to appear in public documents and may be otherwise disclosed without student consent unless a wri en request not to release informa on is filed each semester with the Registrar.  

Cumberland University is in compliance with all known federal, state, and local regula ons regarding non‐discrimina on.  The University reserves the right to video tape or audio tape any class for educa onal purposes. 

STUDENTS NEARING GRADUATION Any student nearing gradua on is encouraged to complete the registra on process as soon as possible in order that space may be reserved in the needed classes. The University does not guarantee a specific course will be offered during the an cipated final term of enrollment. The University urges students who are nearing gradua on to consult with the Registrar, the Academic School Dean, and/or their advisor to ensure that the needed courses or appropriate subs tu ons will be offered during their remaining term(s) of enrollment.  The University reserves the right to add, combine, or delete from this schedule, and to make any changes in listed faculty, teaching assignments, class  mes, and/or room designa ons. 

ADVISING The University offers advising for both currently enrolled and entering students. Advisors help students with their schedules, but the primary obliga on for knowing all gradua on requirements rests with the student. 

PRE‐REQUISITE A pre‐requisite is a course or other specific prepara on that must be completed before enrollment in an advanced course. Prerequisite informa on is contained in the course descrip on sec ons of the Cumberland University Catalog.  A grade of “C” or higher must be earned before advancing to the next sequen al course.

ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE Students who need extra help in any course are urged to make an appointment with the instructor to seek assistance as soon as a problem develops. Free tutoring is available by contac ng the Office of Student Success 

ID CARDS (Student Photo iden fica on card)  These documents are made or updated for all students during the registra on fee paying process. There will be a charge for remaking lost ID cards. Students with a meal plan will need to present a valid ID card in order to receive meals in the Phillips Dining Hall. Any student may be asked to present an ID when checking out library materials. 

TEXTBOOKS Materials for all courses taught at CU may be purchased at the University Bookstore, located in Labry Hall. Specific ques ons concerning this service should be addressed to the Bookstore Manager (615‐547‐1236). h p://bookstore.cumberland.edu. 

RESIDENCE LIFE Returning resident students must have their bill paid in full prior to July 1 or their room assignment/room charges will be removed and reassigned to wait listed students. All students must have all Residence Life fees paid to be assigned a room. Students have paid their bill or have arrangements with the Business Office before they receive a key to their assigned residence hall. Please contact the Office of Residence Life at 615‐547‐1285 or [email protected].

When a student decreases the number of hours a empted during a term, a refund may be calculated based upon the official drop date as presented to the Registrar’s Office. Credits are based on the tui on charges, not the amount paid. If the student is receiving financial assistance, credits will be returned to the financial aid accounts, including lenders of student loans, before any money is returned to the student. Students should note that the requirement to return the unearned por on of the federal financial aid might leave them owing a balance due to Cumberland University.  Withdrawals from school for any reason, during any term, must be made by official no fica on to the Registrar’s Office (MH‐107). FAILURE TO ATTEND CLASS DOES NOT CANCEL ENROLLMENT. The federal refund calcula on policy will be used for students who have a ended classes at CU and are receiving Title IV financial assistance.    Refund or credit on account of residence hall rent a er registra on must be approved by the Vice President for Finance. Refunds will be granted on a pro‐rata basis when the student is forced to withdraw  

from the residence hall for personal medical reasons confirmed by a licensed physician, or at the request of Cumberland University Administra on for reasons other than disciplinary. No refund will be made other than under the above circumstances.  When a student who has received federal financial aid (PELL Grants, FSEOG Grants, Federal Perkins Loans, Direct Federal Stafford Loans, or Direct Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduates) completely withdraws from the University, the unearned por on of the aid must be returned to the program. The unearned por on is calculated up to the first 60% of the enrollment period. The calcula ons are made on a pro‐rata basis, based upon the total enrollment period. The federal government has set the order in which unearned aid must be returned to the programs. Please see the University Catalog for informa on regarding the order in which refunds are returned.  Students withdrawing from the University must contact the Registrar, the Student Financial Services Office, Director of Residence Life, Dean of Students, and the Business Office.
