PROBUS CLUB of SEAFORTH YEAR 24 - 2014-15

Year 24 has seen the Presidency change hands from Ian Smith to incoming President Mike Calloway And VP Brian Cranch. This year saw the club change its focus and future by opening the club to both genders. The last few years has seen the club membership fall substantially and with the change the membership has grown significantly. A welcome to all our new members! The activities for the year covered a great variety of theatre, luncheons, bus travel, and our ever popular Getaway! Very well attended and coordinated by Trevor Wallin, Ray Stallworthy, Brian Cranch and Mike Calloway. Both the President’s Gala Lunch at the Balgowlah RSL and Christmas lunch at Long Reef Golf Club with is magnificent views were well attended and enjoyed by all. Our annual picnic at Manly Dam was postponed until April due to the unfortunate passing of Lois Ryan. Unfortunately the year was marred by the loss of a significant number of members as well as long standing visitors Lois Ryan and Betty Higgins. Much loved members Len Wilson, Rick Clapp, Noel Harrs, Maurice Tye, Dick Sanson, John Daly, Keith Anderson and Tom Setright. All will be sorely missed! We had a wonderful range of speakers arranged admirably by Ron Barratt. there were some memorable topics, Queen bees, Parkinson’s disease, Macular degeneration and what goes on at Pine Gap amongst many other interesting topics.

Page 4: Probus History - Year 24

Bowls were again well coordinated by our UNBIASED Lee Murrell with Warren Ogborne winning the coveted Ric Clapp Trophy and Judy Parker winning the annual Competition. The walking group has been coordinated very well by Michael Draper and has been very popular. The group have tripped to Narrabeen Lakes, Long Reef Headlands, Manly to Fairlight and many others. Michael Calloway introduced us to our website and its use. We also heard a brief life history from members Peter Kendall, David Foster, Ron Selling and Rondda Hoskinson during our members Focus. Other new activities included - snooker, cards and a Technology Workshop. Golf ceased as one of our annual activities due to lack of numbers.

Auditors ReportI have audited the above accounts comprising the Statement of Income and Expenditure and Balance

Sheet of The Probus Club of Seaforth Inc for the year ended 31 January 2015. In my opinion the accounts present a true record and fair view of the state of affairs of The Probus Ctub of Seaforth Inc and the results for the year ended that date.

Signed David Gulliford (Hon. Auditor)

Page 19: Probus History - Year 24

President’s Message to Members March has been a difficult month for all Seaforth Probus members with the passing of Noel

Harrs and now Lois Ryan departing from Barry. It is sad when we lose a member but because both of these individuals contributed so much to our Probus Club and had such a tremendous impact on our lives, we will miss them even more. I have sent sympathy cards to both families on behalf of Seaforth Probus and expressed our profound sympathy and offered our support and help in their hour of need.

But with the coming of March and the start of autumn there is a change in the air and we look forward to a renewed sense of being with the change of seasons. Our last order of business for this year is our Annual General Meeting which will be at our regular meeting on March 24. We will be reviewing the past year and planning for the future.

This past year has been a monumental year with the changing of our club from a men only club to an open-to-everyone club and the changes it has brought. I must say all the changes have been positive with our overall membership rising from a low of 60 to a current high of 72. The influx of women, partners of members and single ladies, has been positive and we have picked up a number of male members and couples. This all adds to our viability of our club to face the future with confidence. We have had a great range of speakers who have made our meeting more interesting and enjoyable this past year. We have been on lots of interesting and fun activities throughout the year with our Getaway for an extended time being a lot of fun. The opera, musicals, theatre and visits to the Fish Markets being just some of the highlights to the year gone by.

We look forward to a new upcoming year of activities, excursions, and Getaways with lots of smiles and fun for all. If you have not been involved in our activities then you are missing out on a great time and lots of friendships made on the outings. So get involved, choose your interest and get to know your fellow members and enjoy the benefits of Seaforth Probus.

Thanks Michael Calloway
