The General Directorate of Abu Dhabi in Abu Dhabi Emirate operates with other agencies to achieve a safer society. It seeks to preserve the stability, the reduction of crime and the removal of a sense of fear, as well as contributing to the achievement of justice among the general public.

The vision of the Directorate is to become the police force that is more effective in the field responding to the needs of the society with the highest of integrity and training.

Progility recently worked in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Police to assess and train a number of strategic initiative managers and project managers to acquire the PRINCE2 international certification through Abu Dhabi Police’s sixth Certified Project Manager course. After consultation, the defined programme outcome was to enhance the existing skills and improve the efficiency of the project management team.

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said: “It is one of the most important international certifications given worldwide in the field of project management. This certification will be legally binding for all initiative and project managers at the police leadership level, due to its importance in developing human resources, regarded as the key component of any successful project.”

The PRINCE2 certification course is a fantastic way of developing and enhancing the skills of a project management team, and it’s of great significance that the Abu Dhabi Police have taken the initiative in motivating their officers to undergo this training. The fact that the certification is legally binding for PMs at police leadership level highlights how important this accreditation is considered to be in effectively managing a project. With the methodology and ideas of PRINCE2 at their disposal following the specialised course, efficiency and performance should improve greatly for the entire organisation.

A major UK retail bank had a directive from the European Financial Commission to divest parts of its business to the public market. One of the most significant divisions was that its insurance business remains the largest insurance group in the UK. Previously this division relied solely on its parent for the delivery of all technology platforms and services.

Progility personnel were known and respected by the bank and therefore was selected as an independent and technology agnostic professional services organisation to provide a strategy and a series of recommendations for all customer contact medias and back office telephony, unified communication and network services.

Having successfully agreed the strategy in conjunction with all key senior stakeholders, the scope of professional services work included:

• The capture of all business and technology functional and non-functional requirements

• The production of a robust RfP with all associated documents• Management of a robust tender process to select strategic

suppliers and negotiate contracts• Design of the final state architecture with the contracted

suppliers • Management of the implementation of the new infrastructure• End to end operational service delivery including the migration

of over 12,000 users, whilst positively impacting operational performance and the customer journey

Initially the team worked with the senior stakeholders within the different insurance team to ensure that the business strategy was clear and could be aligned to a technology road map. As the bank had recently outsourced all of its IT services to one of the big five consultancy firms, Progility was tasked to validate whether this was a viable option (commercially and strategically) or whether a competitive supplier RfP process should be undertaken.

In parallel, the Progility team worked with the business in order to produce a detailed set of business functional requirements which developed into detailed business requirements. The business relied heavily on Progility’s extensive market knowledge of telephony, contact centres and networks to ensure that not only could a solution support current operating models but also ensure that any solution would be future proofed for the next 5 to 7 years.

The result from these activities was to go to market leading suppliers with a formal RfP for contact centre applications and technologies, back office telephony, unified communications and an MPLS network all of which was modelled on a utility managed service pricing model.

19

The implementation has delivered a new platform to 8,000 contact centre seats and 5,500 back office IP Telephony users across 40 UK and international locations. The solution was designed to support a high availability resilient architecture thus ensuring no loss of business delivery. Virgin Media is a company which provides fixed and mobile telephone, television and broadband internet services to businesses and consumers in the United Kingdom.

Virgin Media is part of the Virgin group of companies and is in fact the largest Virgin company in the world, with 13,000 employees across the UK and a turnover of c£4bn.

Tendering for this work required compliance with a host of IT standards and, as a result, a core requirement for training in IT service management was identified.

Following a hugely successful roll out of foundation level ITIL e-learning across the IT service management team, Virgin Media returned to Progility to request the delivery of a digital learning solution to take the teams to intermediate level. Given the complexity of the content for ITIL, no digital solution existed, and coupled with the geographical spread of the teams ILX was asked to help Virgin create a world-first solution to meet the need.

The objective was to deliver a credible return while offering flexibility and convenience to participants. It was soon realised that a synchronous e-learning programme would meet these requirements.

Consequently, at the beginning of 2012 in partnership with Progility’s project management and consulting business, Virgin Media delivered the first integrated synchronous learning solution to deliver real-time ITIL intermediate level training straight to the desktop, straight to the learner – allowing the crucial need for collaboration between all participants, including the tutor.

Managed as a pilot, this new approach presented an opportunity to change the shape of talent and development within Virgin Media, and went on to receive the prestigious accolade of ‘Best Use of Synchronous E-learning’ at the 2012 E-learning Awards, held in London in November.

V I R G I N M E D I A A C H I E V E D :

• Productivity: The e-learning system has reduced training time by 35% pa, giving teams more time to focus on day-to-day work

• Company profitability: Improved training co-ordination means that Virgin Media can bring new services to market faster

• Customer satisfaction: A more consistent training experience has led to superior contact centre efficiency

• Reduced administration: The system is more automated, reducing administration time. Approximately 15,000 hours have been saved on the appraisal system alone and paperless reviews have also cut admin time

• Enablement: Social learning capabilities allow Virgin Media to make the most of internal knowledge and overcome problems without external advice

• Cost savings: Switching to e-learning and virtual instructor learning has saved Virgin Media money – one example being when Virgin Media used virtual instructor ITIL training and saved approximately £102,000 compared to standard training

King’s College London (KCL) is one of the top 20 universities in the world and the fourth oldest university in England. KCL has 26,000 students from 140 countries worldwide and employs around 7,000 staff.

Following a comprehensive review of their information resources team, King’s College London Information Services & Systems (ISS) engaged Progility to recruit six staff into a new team responsible for centralised stock processing and management.

Progility discussed the positions and planned the recruitment strategy with the Head of Information Resources and HR Support Manager at KCL in order to agree a suitable timescale and approach to ensure the right people were presented in a timely and cost effective manner.

Traditionally academic libraries preferred to advertise on jobs boards as well as niche and broad-focussed advertising to recruit permanent staff, rather than approaching recruitment agencies.

To make this a successful recruitment campaign for ISS, Progility utilised their own targeted advertising resources as well as accessing their networks of information professionals to carefully select a shortlist of suitable applicants.

‘The good existing relationship we have with Progility and the quality of candidates we have always received was one reason for choosing an agency to recruit these positions,’ said the ISS HR Support Manager. ‘Another was cost effectiveness. While an advert may have produced a reasonable response, we were impressed with both the quality and healthy volume of applications we received.’ He added, ‘We would certainly consider a similar approach in the future.’

The cost of recruitment requires careful consideration, both in healthy and in harsh economic climates. It’s essential to remember not only the direct costs (advertising space, advert design) but also the hidden costs, usually that of time: application sifting, organising interviews, panel interviewing, liaising with applicants. How many hours do busy line managers, HR staff and senior management spend in the pursuit of sourcing excellent staff? Even then there can be no guarantee of recruiting successfully and this process becomes all the more expensive when repeated.

An international professional services company contacted Progility in order to provide them with 10 experienced individuals to work on a fixed-term data cleansing project.

The company wished to anonymise and migrate client data to an internal knowledge base for internal use by consultants so that the client data could be re-deployed in new projects without identifying past clients. They required a team of skilled contractors, familiar with SharePoint, to clean the data of any and all internal confidential information, including client details and fees before migration.

A major challenge in this project was the short timeframe. With a demanding requirement for 10 individuals and a turnaround of only 7 days, Progility streamlined the identification and selection of candidates by creating a standard matrix to support the selection process and to assist the hiring manager in building a team of data cleansers skilled in records management.

This process enabled Progility to pre-screen candidates and put forward the most suitable as measured against a set of benchmarks based on the client’s own criteria. As a result, the client was able to make a final selection using the matrix, with only minimal reference to CVs, based on their level of trust in Progility’s selection process.

The very positive feedback we received from the client regarding the quality of the candidates and the subsequent high standard of the team’s overall performance and delivery of results, demonstrates the effectiveness of our pre-screening matrix process which we are keen to develop further to provide project teams to other clients.

Diabetes UK is the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes; funding research, campaigning and helping people live with the condition. With over 160,000 members, the charity works for people with diabetes, their carers, family and friends and represents the interests of all people with diabetes, lobbying the government for better standards of care and the best quality of life. Diabetes UK’s mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and to work towards a future without the disease.

Diabetes UK recognised that its current document management solution, which was originally specified in 2002 no longer met the needs for a content-rich, structured and informative intranet.

Progility’s specialists took a phased approach to the project, delivering an integrated electronic document and records management system, through seamless collaboration of its training, consulting and coaching arms in all areas of the solution. This delivered dependable search functionality that would extend, flex and change in line with the charity’s own evolution, whilst also ensuring that internal needs at all levels of the organisation were accounted for.

The key critical success factor of the project was to ensure buy-in from the wider Diabetes UK staff community from the outset. As such, the project commenced with training and coaching sessions facilitating dialogue to maximise engagement with staff members. The next three phases were the discovery, modelling and conceptualisation of requirements. It was important to ensure that there was a common understanding and interpretation of requirements, so Progility utilised it’s training, coaching and consultancy expertise to match Diabetes UK’s usage needs, prior to the commencement of design.

Collaboration across divisions introduced a number of customised elements to the process, which further guaranteed that the system remained accessible and easy to use by all members of staff. Progility ensured that disability/accessibility standards were met, as well as being easy and intuitive to encourage staff confidence, therefore maximising take up. The team customised out-of-the-box technology – a Microsoft SharePoint Server (MOSS) – resulting in a fully branded site for Diabetes UK. Team sites were created, along with individual ‘my sites’ for every user, which allowed the charity’s staff not just to search for documents but to search for colleagues with specific expertise as well.

Roll-out was achieved in a staggered manner: Progility ensured that sites and areas were up and running for teams to use immediately after training by migrating information, creating detailed areas for each individual team and then tailoring training specifically for that team – ensuring that knowledge learned was not lost.

Learning objectives included:• Fully tailored document management and search

requirements• The need to reduce duplication of information and

email usage• The facilitation of team working and collaboration

regardless of geographical location

Progility’s solution has been successfully rolled-out on time and to budget to Diabetes UK staff. Since launch:• User feedback has been highly positive• Staff have taken advantage of the additional

functionality on offer • Staff have reported appreciating the enhanced

search functionality, as it allows them to find what they need much more quickly in a system that is now easy and intuitive to use

• Collaboration across geographically distant sites has improved significantly

• Diabetes UK is now seen – and able to act as – a more integrated entity

Epworth Healthcare is the largest not-for-profit private healthcare group in Victoria and is renowned for its excellence in diagnosis, treatment, care and rehabilitation. It is also a provider of acute medical, surgical and rehabilitation services.

The group consists of seven hospitals within greater Melbourne area with a new hospital facility opening in Geelong in 2016 and three specialist centres all of which provide key clinical services. Through acquisition, Epworth has expanded their operation which resulted in having disparate and unrelated solutions across their voice network. This meant that multiple vendors and suppliers where required to support various different systems resulting in a high total cost of ownership. It also meant that there was a lack of connectivity between the various sites, with old legacy equipment and little or no ongoing support. Added to this was the high cost associated with any adds, moves and changes (AMC’s).

Having thoroughly explored the industry, Epworth initiated a tender process to find a new service provider with the skills to deploy a state of the art unified communications platform with the resource and capability to manage the on-going support. This resulted in Epworth engaging Progility to deliver an integrated unified communications solution which would offer a secure, technological advanced and cost effective platform able to provide:1. The Town of Victoria Park is located immediately five kilometres south east of Perth, Western Australia. It has become increasingly sought after as a destination for residential properties and commercial developments.

A thriving café culture has developed as part of the increased investment along the Albany Highway (Main Street) as well as the redevelopment of the Causeway precinct.

With the Councils objective to development a town-wide economic vitality and business vibrancy along with technological excellence plan, in early 2013 the Council’s Director of Business Life, Mr Nathan Cain developed the idea of creating a continuous public Wi-Fi network that spanned 3.5 kilometres of the Albany Highway which would provide a great user experience.

Given Progility’s experience in many industries and knowledge in working with local government authorities, these requirements where met with confidence.

There were numerous challenges that had to be overcome to ensure successful outcomes aligned to the greater user experience. The first was to provide sufficient infrastructure along the main street. The Progility wireless and network team working in close collaboration with a specialist lighting organisation designed a solar, pole and battery solution. The requirement to have a continuous network also meant single dispersed internet access. Progility designed a solution that allowed for multi–access subscribers which would be positioned along the main street to disperse the load, with a mesh network of access points to distribute in shorter lengths.

This design significantly increased the throughput and user experience and would allow for easy expansion of the network in the future.

With some very tight time frames required to deliver the network, Progility was able to use its resources effectively to ensure a timely deployment and delivery expectation which met with the Councils planned launch date with both public and media expecting the service.

It did not take long for the business community to embrace the technology with comments from a local hairdresser “Great stuff! Some of our clients have just been using it in the salon :)” and Mayor Trevor Vaughan said “... That’s really going to invigorate everyone’s experience when visiting the café’s strip”.

Phase 2 of the project is to utilise the technology to engage the community and businesses with the “LifeinthePark” mobile website. The website is a digital portal that showcases businesses within the Town as well as upcoming community events, the nearest parking locations and more. An App will be built which will allow business owners to post offers and community event notices to be pushed out to those who register for the service.

Crown Casino located in Melbourne Australia is world class entertainment complex, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere attracting around 18 million visitors a year and employing more than 6,500 staff.

The complex consists of three hotels, fifty restaurants and 1,600 guest rooms with round the clock entertainment venues and function facilities.

The existing two way radio legacy analogue trunking system was first installed when Crown Casino opened in 1997. Given the size and nature of the precinct, it is a challenging environment to provide radio communications. Although the existing system was relatively reliable it was nearing end-of-life. Over the years the system was well maintained but the ongoing cost of support had increased over the past few years.

The existing analogue trunking system utilised 800 MHz frequency spectrum which was not readily available for any expansion requirements. A complete audit and analysis was undertaken of the existing Telstra DAS (distributed antenna system) to identify any coverage ‘blackspots’ prior to confirming a solution.

An advanced digital TETRA radio communications system was proposed by Progility which would significantly improve on the existing incumbent solution. The new system would deliver noteworthy enhancements including better coverage and call clarity, increased channel capacity and improved user management.

The initial rollout would be to provide a-like-for-like replacement that minimised disruption to the business while ensuring a smooth transition to the new equipment.

Progility advised on recommendations and overall benefits to: 1. Have lighter radios with longer battery life allowed for users to

complete a full shift using only one battery charge2. Improve voice quality and clarity improved significantly along

with coverage across the complex3. Improved spectrum utilisation provided for an increase in the

number of simultaneous conversations

The Roy Hill integrated mining project consisting of iron ore mining, rail & port operations is scheduled to load is first shipment of ore for export in 2015.

The mine is located approximately 155 kilometres north of Newman in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. It will have a mine life of more than 20 years with Hancock Prospecting the majority shareholder holding a 70% interest in the operation.

Having had a close working relationship with Roy Hill from the early stages of the project, Progility developed a strong understanding of the business and its technical challenges in designing a ‘fit for purpose’ Wi-Fi mesh communications network. A pre-requisite was to design a mission critical communications network which would integrate into the Roy Hill production and fleet management system. The requirement was also to include constant and real time data to and from the fleet to the mining FMS (fleet management system) and into the Roy Hill network connecting back to the ROC (remote operations centre) in Perth. The specification also called for high data throughput with low jitter capable of supporting CCTV on trailers to be used for maintenance purposes.

Progility designed, engineered, constructed and supplied a flexible mission critical wireless mesh network which included the

installation of fixed infrastructure combined with the deployment of multiple purpose built mobile solar powered trailers providing a highly flexible connectivity solution with no single point of failure. The technology included Wi-Fi mesh units, point to multipoint microwave and development of roaming profiles delivering high speed data throughput for an ever changing environment. In order to achieve this outcome Progility worked closely with the OEM to develop custom configurations to ensure throughput and availability in a mobile environment. These configurations were tested and verified in field trials during the preliminary design phase.

Progility conducted the project with a high level of professionalism utilising its extended team of resources which included a specialised team of wireless and data experts and a team of in-house and field technical engineers all managed through the Progility PMO process which ensured diligent planning, consultation and risk mitigation in order to deliver the project under extremely ‘tight’ timeframes amidst significant operational pressures. A working Wi-Fi mesh network was deployed within 9 months of work commencing.

This high visibility project has been successfully delivered such that Progility is now well-positioned to be a valued and strategic partner of Roy Hill. Due to the success of this project, Progility has received positive feedback from industry leaders and consultants and introduced multiple spin off opportunities. It has provided a true value proposition to Roy Hill encompassing Progility’s consulting, engineering and technical expertise.

Northparkes Mine (NPM) is a copper and gold mine situated 27 kilometres North West of Parkes in the Central West of New South Wales, Australia. NPM has been conducting underground mining since 1995 and was the first to use the mass mining method known as block caving to extract ore. Currently NPM’s production is sourced from their E48 Lift 1 block cave with the blending of open cut stockpile material.

The business had a requirement to provide an underground data network which would stream HD video from heavy moving vehicles in underground tunnels and provide the image on screen to remote operators located in a surface control room. The design had to ensure very low latency and data packet loss across the network and in addition a seamless handover of video stream when vehicles move between static access points. It was important to mitigate the risk of large vehicles blocking Wi-Fi signal path within the tunnels. The production area targeted is a harsh environment with limited access due to a load haul dump (LHD) automation program.

Progility designed and implemented an underground wireless mesh and data distribution network which successfully streamed HD video from the heavy vehicles moving along the tunnels to operators located in a surface control room.

The technical solution was:• A state of the art 5.8 GHz Wi-Fi mesh network

using next generation advanced WLAN architecture and ruggedised managed redundant industrial ethernet switches

• Implemented split antenna system to mitigate signal path blocking by vehicles or corners

• Utilised next generation make-before-break algorithms to eliminate packet loss during mobile handover and between fixed infrastructure

• Engaged with contractors and leveraged all available relationships to meet strict time frames in deploying successful network

The results were impressive as the project was delivered within strict customer deadlines and functional expectations were exceeded. A typical vehicle movement cycle involved approximately 19 handovers within a 2 minute timeframe. The project achieved a <20ms network latency with seamless handover between mesh nodes whilst each vehicle was able to reliably stream 2x 8MB/s video while running a 65MB data transfer using a network performance management tool.

The remote operators expressed amazement at the consistently high quality and reliability of the images received across the network. Immediate financial benefits were evident as the operators had increased definition of video images allowing them to identify potential hazards around vehicle which were previously unseen, thereby avoiding costly damage to the equipment.
