What to do? Follow NJ school policy “18A”

• Any educational staff member or other

professional to whom it appears that a pupil

may be under the influence of alcohol or other

drugs must report this in accordance with

N.J.S.A. 18A so they go out for an evaluation.

• If you suspect a student has a drug

problem, report to your administrator, school

nurse, SAC, guidance counselor, Child Study

Team or other professional staff, to be

addressed.

graders reported they drank alcohol in the last 30 days. (2015 PRIDE )

Underage Drinking & Illicit Drug Use

More than 67 % of adolescents who start drinking before the age of 15 will try an illicit drug.

Electronic cigarettes

• Battery powered device that

releases dose of vapor that may (or may not) include

nicotine

• Promoted as healthier alternative since doesn’t

contain all the toxins as in tobacco smoke

• Cheaper than cigarettes

• Addictive, normalizes smoking, flavors encourage

youth to smoke, secondhand effects still unknown

• IMPORTANT TO KNOW- NJ Law prohibits E-Cigarettes

wherever smoking is prohibited
