    STAGE2:MIXINGOFRAWMATERIAL

A KNEADER MACHINE IS USEDTO MIX THE RAW MATERIALS

The temperature and time of thekneader machine is set according

to the grade of rubber to beproduced.

For example, EPDM requires 35-65 C for 7 minutes.

The mixture is then temporarilystored in the baskets until furtherprocessing is done.

    STAGE3: TRANSFORMATION TO

    SHEETS

    ADouble RollingMachine is used for

this purpose. It usescold rolling to flattenthe rubber.

These sheets are thencooled onlong table.

    STAGE5:FINISHING, INSPECTIONAND

    PACKAGING

    FINISHING: 2 ROUNDS

Once done at the factory. Then the products are sent to an

outsourced location where second round of inspection is carried

    out.

    INSPECTION

The various products formed are subjected to quality

improvement tests. The standards of qualifying are set by the

    customer.

PACKAGINGPackaging is not done at the factory. The place of

packaging is around 3 kilometers from the factory. A considerable

amount is paid as rent per day for this place. Packets of 400, 500

    and 1000 pieces are made.

    Scheduling Approach:Low Volume Job Shop

  • 8/9/2019 Scheduling 18A

    12/20

    Why scheduling isrequired?

    yIncreased throughputyDecreased turnaround time

    yUser deadlines met

yUsers made responsible for providing input on

    scheduleyImproved communications with users

yAvoidance of overloading and underuse of

    resources

    y

Job delays more readily apparentyDocumentation of scheduling deviations and their

    causes

    yReduced confusion within the facility

yPredictability of the effects of an increased workload

    Scheduling Requirements

    yCurrent state of the shop

    yResource and equipment status

    y

    Future ordersyDue dates

    yQuantity

    Scheduling AndControl Functions

1.Allocate orders, equipment, and personnel to work

    centers or other specified locations.

2.Determine the sequence of order performance (that

    is, establish job priorities).

3.Initiate performance of the scheduled work.

4.Shop-floor control (or production activity control):a.Review the status and control the progress of orders as

    they are being worked on.

    b.Expedite late and critical orders.

    JobSequencing

Setting up Priority Rules to order jobs.

    Performance measures to evaluate priority

rules:1. Meeting due dates of customers.

    2.Minimizing the flow time.

    3.Minimising work-in-process inventory.

4.Minimising idle time of machines or

    workers.
