THE PRODUCTION
FIELD RECORDINGS is an interactive sound installation, designed by Anneleen De
Causmaecker, soundscape by Annelies Van Parys and texts of Peter Verhelst. This
installation also serves as a setting for a performance with sung laments, also on
texts of Peter Verhelst..
POINT OF DEPARTURE. The pain of loss. The wounds of war. The trauma. The mour-
ning widows. The disconsolate and anonymous victims, soldiers’ graveyards. The
total disorganization after The Great War.
World premiere in the framework of Gone West, May 2nd 2015 in het Concertge-
bouw Brugge.
A PERIGNEM vzw production, coproduced by Concertgebouw Brugge.

DESCRIPTION
VISUAL/AUDITORY. On the scène there are transparent sculptures wherein earth
seems to float, a soldiers’ graveyard in a cold landscape. From the earth, sounds
rise. Rustling, murmuring, echoes from the war, but also voices, fragments of music.
PERFORMANCE. What is the story of the women during The Great War. Someone
meanders across the graveyard , and enters into a dialogue with a woman singing
laments.
INTERACTION. When visitors wander around, the sounds flee. Wherever humans
go, the music silences and only a silent murmur is still audible.

PETER VERHELST | WORD www.peterverhelst.com
Flanders’ most well-known writer was already on a very young age interested in
books. He read as often unintellegible things such as atlases and encyclpoediae as
ordinary books. Later he followed a training as a teacher for Dutch, English and his-
tory which he taught at a secondary school in Bruges. In 1999 he quit education for
a full-time carreer as writer. Since 2006 he is also a stage director at the NTG Thea-
tre in Ghent.

HARVEY BOUTERSE | COSTUME www.hrvi.be
Originally from Surinam, Harvey left Holland and settled in Antwerp to start
working for Belgian designers such as
Wim Neels and Veronique Branquinho.
During this period he launched the label
HrVi as a platform for his own work.
He was later asked to become a senior
designer for the pre-collections of Jean
Paul Gaultier in Paris. His fascination for
the future, technology and craftsmanship
results in interesting, subtle style mix-
tures. Since 2010, he has been working
on seasonal ceramic jewelry and sculp-
tures in the Perignem ateliers, combining
this art form with his ready-to-wear col-
lections and other fashion projects. He
also designs for the Cape Town based
sculptural Artist Jane Alexander .
ELS MONDELAERS | VOICE elsmondelaers.wordpress.com
Els started singing very early. After her secondary school on an arts institution, she
continued in Music Pedagogics. At the same time, she became more and more awa-
re of her vocal qualities and also started to be curious about contemporary music.
This became the main interest for her freelance singing carreer. She made a specia-
lisation in contemporary singing as a soloist and is in Flanders as well as abroad a
highly acclaimed performer. She also has a special interest in Music Theatre.
