REGARDING PERMANENT STREET CLOSURE

The City of Charlottetown has received a requestto permanently close the following PublicStreets:

i) all of Joseph Lane (formerly Park Lane)which extends northerly 208.5 feet fromAllen Street to a dead end; and

ii) a portion of Jordan Crescent being thewestern access at Allen Street whichextends 250.5 feet northerly to a 90degree turn and then easterly from thatpoint 143.5 feet. WELFARE ASSISTANCE ACT REGULATIONS AMENDMENT

(Approved by His Honour the Lieutenant Governor in Council dated 7 November 2000.)

Pursuant to section 7 of the Welfare Assistance Act R.S.P.E.I. 1988, Cap. W-3, Council made the following regulations:

1. Section 18 of the Welfare Assistance Act Regulations (EC746/84) is amended

(a) by the deletion of the words, “and fire insurance” and the substitution of the words “, fire insurance, local transportation allowance and healthy child allowance”;

(b) by the revocation of subclause (a)(i), and the substitution of the following:

(i) Schedule of Food Allowance MAXIMUM MONTHLY ASSISTANCE

FAMILY UNITS

4 OR MORE PERSONS

One adult $141 $134 for adult $114 for adult

Two adults $235 for two adults

$211 for two adults

(c) by the revocation of subclause (a)(iii), and the substitution of the following:

(iii) the ordinary assistance for food in accordance with the schedule in subclause (i) shall be increased by $48 per month for pregnant women;

(d) in paragraph (c)(iii)(A) by the deletion of the words “$1065” and the substitution of the words “$1369”;

(e) by the insertion of the following clauses: (g) Local transportation

The Director may grant assistance for local transportation expenses not exceeding $14 per month per household;

(h) Healthy child allowance The Director may grant assistance for cultural and recreational activities not exceeding $14 per month per dependent minor child.

2. Clause 19(14)(b) of the regulations is amended by the deletion of the words “$42” and the substitution of the words “$50”.

3. Subsection 46(1) of the regulations is amended by the deletion of the words “eighty-two” and the substitution of the words “$103”.

4. (1) These regulations, with the exclusion of clauses 1(b), (c) and (d) are deemed to have come into force on April 1, 2000.

(2) Clauses 1(b), (c) and (d) of these regulations are deemed to have come into effect on January 1, 2000. EXPLANATORY NOTES SECTION 1 provides for the addition of items with regard to assistance be added to section 18 of the regulation, including local transportation allowance and healthy child allowance. The section also changes the amounts payable for food allowance, pregnant women allowance, for residence in a community care facility. SECTION 2 changes the amount payable for an optical assessment from $42 to $50. SECTION 3 changes the comfort allowance for residents of a nursing home from $82 to $103. SECTION 4 sets out effective dates for the amendments.
