A WEBQUEST JOURNEY BACK IN TIME

DESIGNED BY MRS. SHANA K. CURTIS

An American scientist at a nearby university has developed a time machine that can take you back in time to any time period. Once transplanted in the past, you and your group members will assume the identities of random people during that time period. For example, if one of you are a 16-year old female now, in the past you could be a 60-year old man, so everything you experience will be from the perspective of that person. For this assignment, your team will be transported to America in the 1960s.

The identity you assume will be totally random and determined by the time machine. You will need to take note of the music you hear, the foods you eat, what is happening in politics, what kind of clothes you and others are wearing, the type of home you live in, the kind of cars you see, current movies, and any other interesting facts. All of your findings will be recorded in a blog created by your instructor in the present day.

Your team is expected to post a reflection on each topic. You will need to work together to come up with the wording for your post. You may also post videos, mp3s, or images in your blog.

Create a thinking map using Webspiration which outlines what you are to observe while in the 1960s (i.e. music, fashion, politics, art, etc.). This will allow you to organize your thoughts.Create a username and password through www. edublogs.org. It’s perfectly okay if only one group member registers, you will also work collaboratively on the postings. You will create blog (web log, or online journal) to reflect on your findings during the time period. You will also need to find at least 10 images and 1 song from the time period to be used in a Windows Movie Maker presentation. You will use these images and song to highlight a specific topic of the time period, visually. For example, if you are interested in the fashion of the 1960s, your movie will consist of images of 1960s fashion set to a song from the time period.

You will be assessed using a rubric. The rubric will evaluate your Webspiration thinking map, blog reflections, and Windows Movie Maker presentation. Successful webquests will meet or exceed the task requirements.
