Dear Parishioners, If you have not done so, I would highly recommend that you mark your calendars for our Parish Mission “Trust in His Merciful Love” this coming November 13-17, 2016. Father Pete Schavitz will be our mission leader. He has wide and varied apostolic experiences: youth, adult, couples, divorced, and nuns retreats; seminary professor; and vocation ministry. Father Pete is a seasoned parish mission preacher whose faith, stories, humor, and words continue to spiritually impact thousands. In the coming weeks you will begin to hear more about this very special time in the spiritual life of our parish. One of the biggest fundraisers of the year for our Home and School Association will take place on November 19th. This will be our 4th Annual Auction Casino Night, and is a time not only for our school families to gather but all of our parishioners as well. While this will be my first auction here at Queen of All Saints, I can testify that this will be an evening full of fun. Monies raised from this evening will support the educational programs of our school and enhance the learning environment for all students. Please check the bulletin for more info and make plans to attend this fun evening. As stewards of God’s creation, all that we have is a gift from God. If you are like me, you find that it is easier to give him thanks at different moments in life. It is out of the gifts we have been given that we are invited to give back to him. Last week you were invited to complete a stewardship card and we have received many responses. If you have not done so, please consider how you can give back in gratitude out of your prayer, participation, and your financial gift back to God. You can return this card to the rectory or fill it out online at www.qasstl.org. We are great because so many parishioners give back. This coming Saturday I will be departing for a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Upon my arrival in Israel, I will be meeting up with Archbishop Joseph Naumann, the Archbishop of Kansas City, and many will remember him from his time here in St. Louis where he served as our Auxiliary Bishop. Please do keep me in your prayers, as there will be about 50 pilgrims in my care for these days. I will return to the parish on October 27th. I will have access to email during this time and will respond as promptly as I can.

Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has brought to the forefront a devotion to our Blessed Mother that has been largely unknown by many. Our Lady Undoer of Knots. What are the Knots? They are the problems and struggles we face for which we do not see any solution . . . knots of discord in your family, lack of understanding between parents and children, disrespect, violence, the knots of deep hurts between husband and wife, the absence of peace and joy at home. There are also the knots of anguish and despair of separated couples, the dissolution of the family, the knots of a drug addict son or daughter, sick or separated from home or God, knots of alcoholism, the practice of abortion, depression, unemployment, fear, solitude . . . , the knots of our life! These can suffocate the soul, beat us down and betray the heart’s joy, and separate us from God. Msgr. Breier

World Mission Sunday

October 23rd is World Mission Sunday. In announcing his decision to declare a Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said, “Dear brothers and sisters, I have often thought about how the Church might make clear its mission of being a witness to mercy.” Supporting the young churches throughout the world with your prayers and generous gifts is indeed a merciful witness of this mission. The collection for World Mission Sunday will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local dioceses and support the work of priests, religious and lay leaders who serve those on the margins and in most need. Extend your merciful witness to the whole world through your gift in today’s collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith!

Soccer Coaches Coaching involves more than designing plays for free kicks or creating team formations. Coaching, especially at the youth level, involves accepting a huge responsibility, as the coach is basically in a position of trust as parents put their kids in their care. Thanks to the many men and women who give of their time coaching baseball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, lacrosse, and golf.

We were pleased to announce a new program on

September 28th called The Saints Award to recognize

students who demonstrate exceptional character

qualities and are role models to their classmates.

Each month will have a designated character focus,

and September was RESPECT. We thank these

students for choosing to be like Jesus and showing

great RESPECT to others around them!

Amid the elections it's clear that society and those

who control the media want to paint a picture of

what a leader is. To me, a true leader is sadly not

someone you see on TV in today’s age, or hear on

popular radio stations. It’s not someone famous

with a lot of money, and not necessarily someone in

politics.

Mother Teresa - now Saint Teresa -

was recently canonized on September

4th. Despite how infrequently she was

seen on TV and heard on the radio,

she was a true leader in the eyes of

God. One of her famous sayings

reminds us how we obtain JOY – by

putting Jesus first – J – Others second

– O – and Yourself last – Y – which

spells JOY. Imagine how different the

world would be if people like Saint

Teresa were on TV and revered as

much as Hollywood stars and

politicians.

Speaking of leaders, we were also proud to

recognize this year’s 8th Grade class as our school

leaders. I am proud of these students for their

example to the underclassmen and for appreciating

their Catholic education. The beginning of the year

has gone very smoothly thanks to the students,

families, and the teachers. We have a very blessed

faith community at Queen of All Saints!

Teachers and staff are working diligently to ensure

our students’ formation is centered on three

principles here at Queen of All Saints—faith,

character, and academics.

Advent Blanket Making – Help “Warm Up” Saint Louis

Does it get more and more difficult to find the true meaning of Christmas among all the advertisements, wish lists, and never-ending shopping trips? Are you looking for a meaningful way for you and your family to begin this Advent season? Advent blanket-making began three years ago on the first Sunday of Advent at QAS after hearing about a homeless man who froze to death on our city’s streets. Since that time, QAS parishioners have come together and hand-made well over 100 fleece blankets that were then delivered to St. Patrick’s Center to help protect those in need from the bitter cold. We are offering the opportunity again this year to start your Advent in an impactful way. Sunday, November 27, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. the QAS gym will be open to all who would like to participate in this project. Entire families have worked on their blanket together, mothers and daughters, groups of friends, even Girl Scout troops. And this is a great community service activity for seventh and eighth graders with their confirmation sponsors and also high schoolers!

From St. Patrick’s Center: “I wanted to thank QAS for making the blankets for our clients and those in St. Louis who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. These blankets are given to clients and those living on the streets to help protect them from the cold and other elements.”

You can start looking now for your fleece at any fabric store - two pieces of fleece, two yards each, one in a solid color and the other in a coordinating print, or both in solid colors. Bring the fleece, some good, sharp scissors (important!), a ruler if you have one, and possibly something to cushion your knees, as this is an on-the-floor project. We will show you a very easy way to make a warm fleece blanket in just a little over an hour. If you are unable to come on November 27, you are welcome to make your blanket on your own and drop it off at the Parish Office where we will pick it up before delivering downtown – or contact us to come pick it up from your home. If you need to know how to make the blankets, please send an email to the address below. We will be happy to send the instructions to you. Let’s start this Advent season off with warm hearts, knowing we will be helping others stay warm this winter! To ensure we have adequate space and supplies, please RSVP at [email protected].

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how does God’s love abide in him? 1 John 3:17

Respect Life Month

The theme of the 2016-17 Respect Life Program is "Moved by Mercy" (usccb.org/respectlife). When we let our hearts be moved by God's mercy, it shapes everything. As Pope Francis said, "We are called to show mercy because mercy has first been shown to us" (Misericordiae Vultus . . . ).

From each tiny child waiting to be born, to individuals nearing death, all are precious and deserve our care and protection. Women and men suffering after abortion, individuals tempted to end their lives, couples longing to conceive a child, people pushed to the margins of society by a "throw-away culture," expectant mothers facing challenging pregnancies, and every other person—each "has a place in God's heart for all eternity" (Amoris Laetitia. . . . 168).

Let's ask God to make us channels of his loving mercy: Lord, help us to receive your mercy and turn to you each moment. And please guide us in extending your mercy to others today. Now is the time for mercy. Timothy Cardinal Dolan
