The readings this weekend continue their focus on the end of time. They remind us to be aware of the signs around us. The darkened sun, the falling stars from the sky, and the appearance of St. Michael the Archangel. These occurrences will warn us that the end is near. Even though we do not know the day or the hour, we do know that the end will

come, that we need to be prepared, that heaven and earth will pass away, but Jesus’ words will not pass away and that if we stay close to Jesus, we don’t need to be afraid. The challenge for us is: Am I ready to meet the Lord? Am I living the way Jesus expects me to live? Is there anything I need to change in my life to grow closer to Jesus? Do I need to forgive anyone? Do I need to make time for prayer? Do I need to attend Church more than I have during the past year? What do I need to do to get ready for the final days of my life? God continues to set the pace, to give us hints along the way. It’s difficult when we don’t have the answer in front of us. God had a plan for us. When the time comes, God will make sure that we know the end is here. All we need to do is to trust in Him and He will help us prepare for that final moment of life.

I would ask you to keep Tina O’Shea and our teens who will accompany her to Indianapolis to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference in your prayers. It’s an opportunity for our teens to grow in their leadership skills and bring back what they learned and share it with our Youth Ministry organization.

I would encourage the women of our parish to attend the Advent by Candlelight event sponsored by the Women’s Ministries Program. It’s a wonderful way to begin the season of Advent and prepare for Christmas. The date is Wednesday, December 2 at 7:00pm in the St. Joseph's Room.

Remember that next weekend, St. Vincent de Paul will be sponsoring their annual Food Drive. Don’t forget to take a brown bag home with you after all the Masses this weekend and bring your donations back by dropping them off to the St. Joseph Room.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

Today is “Brown Bag Sunday.” Please take a bag and return it next weekend before and after all masses in the St. Joseph’s room. (Because the organizations will pick up around 1:00, so we won’t collect before or after the Sunday, 4:00 p.m. mass.) Your donations – no matter how large or small - are truly appreciated and vital to the local food pantries and organizations we support. (If you know of any families within our parish that could use some extra help for the holidays, please contact the rectory & leave a name, address, and phone – any referrals will be taken in strict confidence. We would like to provide food baskets for our own before passing along the food we receive to local pantries & shelters.)

Just sending out a quick note to say “Thanks!” for your generosity the last 2 weekends when we were collecting at the 103rd & Kedzie Jewel to raise money for turkey

dinners. Your kindness is always appreciated!

Mission Trip 2015 HEROES

“This week has impacted my faith by showing me how fortunate I am to have the things and people in my life. Harlan taught me a lot of things; I learned new vocabulary words on the

worksite from my carpenter Josh, and I also learned a lot of new quali es and characteris cs my friends have. Harlan has affected me so that I will go home and share my skills with others. This trip has helped me bond with my family: Tim, Abby, Casey, and Jen.” – Mikey

Queen of Martyrs Students Participate In Ghoulish Labs

Mrs. Creevy’s 5th and 6th Grade students enjoyed Halloween Labs during their Science Classes. Mrs. Creevy decked the Science Room with festive Halloween decorations to add to the fun atmosphere surrounding the students labs. The 5th Grade students made Slime. They explored the Property of Polymers, Slime turning from a liquid to a solid state. The students tested the properties of the Slime that they made and then brought their Slime home to enjoy!

The 6th Grade students worked in groups on a “Sense Lab”. They were given Jelly Belly candy and were asked to describe its attributes, such as the candies size, shape, and color. Mrs. Creevy then cut the jelly bean candy open and the students were asked to smell and then guess its flavor. There were sixteen different jelly beans in all, including rotten egg, sausage, and soap scented ones.

The students really enjoyed the hands on Halloween Labs. Students were wearing their hats to school on this day during Queen of Martyrs Red Ribbon Week, for the theme “Put a Cap on Drugs” !
