Today we celebrate the feast of Christ the King. It is a celebration of God’s reconciling love for us. The image of Christ the King on the cross emphasizes God’s presence with us. He offers us a love, along with salvation that no one else can give. He doesn’t wear a crown made out of jewels and gold. His crown is a crown of thorns. He doesn’t sit on an elaborate throne. Instead, He is perched upon a wooden cross. Jesus’ kingship is not one that focuses on pomp and circumstance associated with royal kings and queens. It is

not based on riches common to the leaders of the world. Jesus’ kingship is all about mercy and forgiveness. It is God’s calling card. He is challenging us to be of service to one another. Jesus’ ministry was of healing the sick, raising the dead, empowering the lowly and forgiving those who hurt you. It is a reminder to us that our God is the Lord of the Universe. A God who loves us unconditionally and asks us to do the same.

Throughout the course of the past year, we have reflected on the Gospel of Luke. The emphasis on his Gospel is one of hope. A hope that does not disappoint. A hope that calls us to be compassionate, forgiving and merciful. A hope that ignites and empowers us to search out the lost and forgotten and bring them back to the church.

As Cardinal Cupich joins the membership of the College of Cardinals, he is asking us to continue to live out the mission of the Church. He is asking us to stand up to be a people who help transform our church and parish communities for generations to come. This effort is called “Renew My Church”. It is inspired by the encounter that St. Francis had with Jesus as he prayed before the San Damiano Cross, as Jesus asked him to “rebuild my church”. It is a call for us to leave behind the old patterns that have left us complacent and move towards a church that is vibrant and strong throughout the Archdiocese. It is an opportunity for us to make sure that no one feels left behind, but all are included. Like anything else, there is a cost to discipleship. In order to work together, some sacrifice will have to be made. Renew My Church has the potential of having a historic and transformative impact on each of our lives and the entire church. Pope Francis is asking us to listen to Christ and His call to renew the church today. He is inviting us to work with him, amid sacrifice and dying, that as a hopeful people we can stay together united in our mission of becoming a more vibrant, stronger and life giving church.

This Thursday, November 24, we will celebrate Thanksgiving. I would invite all of you, our parishioners and families, to join us at our 9:00AM Mass to show our gratitude to God for His blessings to us.

I will be away Monday through Wednesday. I will be on a mini retreat at Mundelein. I ask you to keep me in your prayers.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

“It is by the path of love, which is charity, that God draws near to us, and us to God. But where charity is not found, God cannot dwell. If, then, we possess charity, we possess God, for God is Charity.” (St. Albert the Great) The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is thankful for your charitable giving throughout the year which helps us provide assistance to those in need.

“ALL WOMEN OF THE PARISH”

TOMORROW IS THE LAST SESSION FOR 2016

PLEASE JOIN US FOR……

“The Bible and the Virgin Mary”

Monday November 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. Women's Ministry Room - 2nd Floor - Q of M Convent

Last session we studied the Wedding at Cana as written in John’s gospel. One of the highlights was that Jesus was not scolding his mother when He said, “Oh Woman what have you to do with me”, in response to Mary’s mention that there was no more wine. The phrase was a common idiom spoke in ancient times that didn’t necessarily mean hostility. Mary expected obedience from her son and Jesus faithfully and lovingly complied. Please join us as this week as we see the parallels between Mary and Eve. Take time to treat yourself to this wonderful experience of learning more about Jesus’ mother and grow closer to the Blessed Mother. You don’t need to belong to Women’s Ministry. Just come and bring your friends! The Blessed Mother DVD series will be available for free on the internet starting this Advent. Visit the St Paul Center for Biblical Theology website and sign up for the online streaming of the “Bible and the Virgin Mary”. If you miss a series, can’t make the morning/evening session, or are just interested in viewing on your own time, please visit the website. For more information, contact Terri Lanuti at 773-239-1041. This is our last session for 2016. We will resume the Blessed Mary series in January 2017. Blessed and joyous Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Mary declared, “Do Whatever He Tells You”.

Mission Trip 2016 OLYMPICS

“I’ve gotten closer to God this week by enjoy-ing the small things. I got a special feeling leaving that worksite every day. Helping people the way we did this week was a big task but I knew my friends, family, and God had my back to get the job done. I really enjoyed my time here. It’s a great experience and I look

forward to next year’s trip. Going home to my family will be nice because I can share the experiences with them and help them more when it comes to big tasks. I enjoyed every minute of this trip. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life.” –Pat

Queen of Martyrs Student’s Commemorate Those Who Served Our Country

Student’s in every grade level had the opportunity to take part in Veteran’s Day presentation‘s. Seventh and Eight Grade students listened to Dr. Michael Stritch, in the St. Joseph’s Room, as he discussed the “Fighting Sullivan’s”. They heard about the five brothers who all lost their lives in one day during World War II. The students were reminded of the value of our freedom and the inherent dignity of every human being. The student’s also had the opportunity to meet Mr. Dave Pekelnicky, a Veteran and husband

of 8th Grade teacher, Mrs. Pat Pekelnicky. Mr. Pekelnicky discussed his tour in the Vietnam War.

First Grader, Mikey Ponce De Leon, welcomed his dad, Michael Ponce De Leon, who spoke to the Pre-K through 2nd Grade students about his time in the Navy. The third through 6th Grade students listened to a talk from Mr. Dan Johnson about his experience as an Army Veteran on his 4th tour as an engineer in the Bomb Detonating Unit. Both Veteran’s did a wonderful job with their

presentations. The students also had the opportunity to collect “K-Cups for the Troops”. Queen of Martyrs was proud to donate boxes filled with a variety of cof-fee K-cups that will be given to Troops serving our country.

Queen of Martyrs is very grateful for all Veteran’s service to our country and pay tribute to them for upholding our freedom!
