The readings from Scripture this week center around how we live the commandments in our life. It is more than just observing the law. It is asking us how are we living and incorporating the commandments so that we can build on establishing a solid relation-ship with God. Each of us possesses free will. We decide which direction we want to

take: choose good or choose evil. Life is more than believing there is a God. It is learning about what is real and what is fake, what is true and what is a lie. How do we decide between what is knowledge and wisdom? We are reminded that Jesus is the new Moses, who invites us and shows us the way to live a new life filled with many blessings and joys. Fulfilling the law is continuing to incorporate God’s love in our life. What are we doing to make that happen for us?

Today, we welcome the families of our 3rd and 4th grade students from School and Saturday School of Religion to participate in our liturgy at the 9:30AM Mass. It is wonderful to see our students and families involved at Mass.

Sister Jane Schlosser, a Sister of Mercy, is inviting the community to spend a Lenten morning of Reflection on Saturday, February 25 from 9:30—11:30AM at Mercy Chapel. She will be reflecting on the Gospel images of the lost treasures being found: coins, lambs, sons and daughters. A suggested donation of $10.00 payable to Sisters of Mercy is recom-mended.

This weekend, we begin the preparation for the 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal. You will be asked to reflect on what contribution you might consider for this year’s appeal. Our parish has been successful in reaching our goal. This year, our target goal is to raise $32,839. It is based on 6% of the previous year’s offertory income. If you have contributed in the past, you should have received a reminder in the mail. I would ask you to bring that response card with you next week as you consider your contribution. It is important that you specify Queen of Martyrs, so that we may receive credit. If we exceed our goal, anything over that goal, Queen of Martyrs will receive a rebate of 100% of those funds. I know that with your support and generosity, we can achieve this goal. I ask you to pray for the success of the Annual Catholic Appeal.

Next Saturday, the teens are sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner in Vitha Hall from 5:00-7:00PM. The monies go to help fund the Mission Trip the teens go on in July. I would invite you to attend and support this worthy cause.

Enjoy the week.

God Bless,

“Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord.” Today’s responsorial psalm ties together all three readings in that we are encouraged to follow God’s commandments to gain eternal happiness. By follow-ing the commandments, we are sharing our faith with others. In what ways will you share your faith this week?

PARISH LIBRARY NEWS "The 13th Apostle," by Paul Murphy, is a compelling read for teens and adults alike. Murphy combines Biblical fact with fiction to give a look into the beginnings of Christianity.

We see Jesus' final days through the eyes of a young believer, Gamaliel. The intrigue and suspense that prevents Gamaliel from alerting Jesus to impending danger keeps the reader turning pages. Too bad you know the ending. . . . "The Domestic Church, A Study Guide for Mothers" by Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle, presents a challenge. You can read it for spiritual growth in your own family (aka your little domestic Church), OR it has a leader's guide with suggestions on beginning a study group among your friends to evangelize as a cluster of families. There's tips for leading the sessions and on how to create a relaxed, holy-fun atmosphere. Game on?? BTW, the author is a mom of five, a blogger, and TV host on EWTN.

Find our "library nook" in Martyrs' Cry Room. Take a look and take a book, before or after Masses each weekend. For more info, call Terri, at (773) 239-1041.

Religious Education News Thank you to the Saturday School children who participated in the QM Book Fair. Ms. Cronin, librarian, shared with us that the Saturday School sales totaled $900+. Thanks to the Saturday School children who hosted a BAKE SALE Saturday for Youth Ministry and their summer Mission Trip to Harlan Kentucky. It was a “delicious” morning. Thanks to Sheriff Tom Dart, a Saturday School of Religion dad, who spoke with the school children during Catholic Schools about his ministry. There are no Saturday School of Religion classes February 18 due to Presidents Weekend. Classes resume February 25 Catholic Schools Week was a great week for the faculty, staff and students. We take a minute to thank all QM parishioners who have chosen education as their ministry…from three years old through graduate schools. It is very challenging but very rewarding. May God continue to provide strength and guidance to you.

Queen of Martyrs Students Discuss Saints Mrs. Creevy’s 5th and 6th Grade Religion classes worked on a project about Living Saints and Saints in history. Students worked with partners to research saints and create slides for their presentation. Many interesting facts about favorite saints, including Saints Patrick, Francis, Clare, and Christopher, were presented. Students also brought in books to share about the Saint that they were assigned. Students had the opportunity to interview people that they felt had the qualities of a Living Saint. Many grandparents, moms, dads, and Aunts were chosen by the students because of the example they give in living their faith. For extra credit the students invited their “Living Saint” to visit their

Religion Class. Ms. Tina O’Shea, Queen of Martyrs’s wonderful Youth Minister was chosen as a “Living Saint” for her Christian qualities that she shares each day with everyone around her! Way to go Ms. Tina!
