QUEEN OF MARTYRS CHURCH

22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time August 31, 2014

Page 2: QUEEN OF MARTYRS CHURCHqueenofmartyrschurch.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/08-31-14-Bulletin.pdfHiya Jr. High!! Our first mee ng of the year will be Monday September 15th from 6:30-8pm

Last year our parish went through a program called Parish Transformation. This program provided an opportunity for us to look at what programs we have to offer at Queen of Martyrs and see what areas in the parish could use a change in preparing for the future. We created an Action Plan to work on to make changes necessary that address parish concerns. We have been fairly successful in accomplishing some of these

concerns. We reached our goal in purchasing an iPad lab for the school. School enrollment is at a solid number—335, 3 students shy of 338 last year. We have recruited a good number of volunteers to help paint classrooms in school. We continue to build a strong youth ministry program. There is still a lot for us to do. In the Scripture readings this week, we are asked to make a change in our lives. Jesus is asking us to take up our cross, accepting sacrifices that is a part of who we are. It may not be the choice we make, but it helps to unite us to Jesus who suffered on the cross for us. Jesus wants us to live lives that are full. When we give our time, talent and treasure for the sake of the cross in helping those in need or those that we love, it gives us the opportunity to fill our hearts. We may not necessarily see change immediately in what we do. Jesus promises us that if we remain faithful in our lives, our lives will be rewarded at the end of time for taking the time to transform our lives for His sake.

This Monday, we celebrate Labor Day. It is a time for us to recognize and honor the working men and women in our society. We will be celebrating Mass at 9:00AM. All are welcome to start this day with prayer and refection.

This Saturday, we welcome back our students and catechists who attend our Saturday School of Religion Program from their summer break. Looking forward to a year filled with many blessings and joys.

Martyrsfest is just around the corner. If you have not purchased your raffle ticket, you may do so after all the Masses on the weekend or at the Rectory during the week. Tickets are $50.00.

My appreciation to all who helped support the Scouting program last week at the Car Wash. It was truly appreciated.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

CAN YOU HELP? The Society of St Vincent de Paul at Queen of Martyrs is “looking for a few good men and women” who have a few hours each month to help us continue our service to the community. We meet twice a month after the 9:30AM Mass on Sundays and participate in various ac-tivities to provide assistance where needed. If you would like to enhance your personal Spiritual growth and de-velopment by helping to serve the needy of your commu-nity and others, please leave your name and number at the rectory and a member will contact you with more information.

You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give” (Winston Churchill). Little

“This is my second Mission Trip. My first one was the reason I came again. It was a lot of fun last year, but this year was the greatest week of my life. I had no worries, I had no phone. I just enjoyed every second I was here. This is the happiest I’ve been in

a long me. I can’t wait to get home to tell my mom and friends about my trip, but I am sad to leave. All the work we do here is awesome. The carpenters are fun, funny, and smart. They are all good teachers and they are great people to work with.” Tim

Queen of Martyrs Students Complete First Week of School

Students, Faculty, and Staff were welcomed back to school on Wednesday, August 20th. Principal, Ted Morgan greeted everyone in the school gym which will now serve as the morning meeting place for students to hear daily announce-ments, pray together, and recite the Pledge

of Allegiance. Students then proceed to their classrooms to begin the school day. Father Ed and Father Kevin were on hand to greet the students and wish them well with the new school year.

Father Kevin also came to each classroom to bless the room and the students as they embark on their journey through the 2014/2015 school year. The students, faculty, and staff are excited to begin another school year and look forward to a productive and successful outcome!

PLAYGROUND DONATIONS

We are looking for gently used playground equipment for our outside play area Queen of Martyrs School. Items such as Step 2 or Little Tikes clubhouses or any play equipment (no slides) made of PVC materials, would be greatly appreciated. We will pick up donations. Please contact Janine Missey at the parish rectory—708-423-8110.

With your help, we can create a fun and safe play area for the children of Queen of Martyrs to enjoy!

Thank you!
