As we listen to the Scripture readings this weekend, we see that Jesus spent a lot of time going out to encounter people no matter where they were located. His encounters with people helped to change their lives. He brought healing to people if they had trust and faith in Him. As a result, He askes us to get involved so we can help build up the

Kingdom of God by sharing the message of the Gospel. How is God calling you to share His mission? How are you serving as an instrument of peace? Each of us has been called by name. We have encountered Jesus every time we receive the sacraments. The challenge for us now is to spread His message with enthusiasm and conviction.

Today, you will hear Cardinal Cupich talk to you about the importance of the Annual Catholic Appeal. This Appeal helps to support the ministries that the Archdiocese provides for the parishes and schools in need. The key to the Annual Appeal is participation. It is up to all of us to do our part in making our church strong and vibrant. This year’s theme “Come and Follow Me” asks us to be responsible men and women who live out the mission of the church through their prayerful support and financial contribution. This year’s goal for our parish is to reach $31,850. The goal is based on 6% of last year’s offertory collection. We have been very successful in this Appeal for the last couple of years. We have exceeded our goal and received a rebate back to the parish. My hope is that with your continued generosity, we will reach our goal again this year and far exceed our expectations.

Thank you for all who stopped by the Open House last Sunday after the 9:30am Mass in celebration of Catholic Schools Week. It was a wonderful turnout of families and parishioners. Your support and generosity to our school is truly appreciated.

A reminder that all are invited to stop by the St. Joseph’s Room after the 9:30am Mass to have coffee and rolls sponsored by the Women’s Ministry.

Also, next Sunday at the 9:30am Mass, our 4th and 5th grade students from school and Religious Education will celebrate a Family Mass. All are invited to join us for this celebration.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

A short and simple message today that was part of a crossword puzzle I was working on last week. “We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.” (St. Teresa of Calcutta) Share your smiles with those you meet this week. My guess is they’ll pass it along and it just may come back to you when you need a lift!

Queen of Martyrs Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy

“Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he

prayed.” (Mk 1:35)

Don’t know what to talk to God about in prayer? St. Josemarıa Escriva counseled someone with this same question. “About Him, about yourself: joys, sorrows, successes and failures, noble ambitions, daily worries, weaknesses! And acts of thanksgiving and petitions and love and reparation. In a word: to get to know him and to get to know yourself: ‘to get acquainted!’ ”

(The Way, 91}

Prayer is just like talking to your friend, only Jesus is your Best Friend and He has the power to change Everything! Become a Committed Eucharistic Adorer. Sign up at the Adoration Chapel or for more information call, Marion at (708) 424-8433.

Queen of Martyrs 8th Grade Students Present Science Lesson to Preschool

Mrs. Biszewski’s 8th Graders enjoyed taking their Science Class to Preschool. Their presentation topic centered on Living and Nonliving things. Each student brought in a different item to show the preschoolers. Some of the living items brought in were, plants, snails, fish, and a favorite, Gus-Gus

the turtle! Nonliving objects presented were many different types of sports balls, a pillow, coins, and a giant Teddy Bear.

The students explained the difference of a living thing verses a nonliving thing. The Preschool students learned that all living things need food, sun, and water to survive. They further explained that nonliving things do not need anything to exist. Mrs. Biszewski showed each Preschool student a picture and they had to decide whether it was living or nonliving. Both the 8th Grade students and the Preschoolers did an excellent job with the Science Lesson. The 8th Graders also made a booklet for each Preschool student to keep showing living and nonliving things. The 8th Grade students enjoyed reading their booklets to the Preschoolers. It was truly a great learn-ing experience for both Preschool and 8th Grade!
