QUEEN OF MARTYRS CHURCH Evergreen Park, Illinois

The Scripture readings for the 3rd Sunday of Advent call us to focus on Rejoicing. Being joyful allows us to experience positive feelings. The joyfulness in the Scriptures today asks us to look within ourselves and challenges us to keep connected to the love of

the one who calls us. Isaiah reminds us that our mission involves healing the broken hearted, bringing glad tidings to the poor, proclaiming liberty to captives and release to the prisoners. We are called to be witnesses to the light. Our responsibility is to help others experience joy in their lives. We are called to be doers, rather than sitting around and not being productive. We are at the midpoint of Advent. How are you spreading the joy and preparing for the way of the Lord? We are called to be messengers of joy and hope to people. What are we doing to change our ways to make a dif-ference? We are invited to be a voice carrying out in the desert. Let us speak up and stand together for the sake of the Gospel. By doing so, we can help people find the joy and light that seems to be missing in their lives.

We welcome our 6th grade students from School and Religious Education to our monthly 9:30am Family Mass. It’s always wonderful to see our students involved in our liturgical celebrations.

A reminder for next weekend. Next Sunday, the morning Masses are for the 4th Sunday of Advent, NOT Christmas. The Masses for Christmas begin Sunday afternoon with 4:00pm Mass. I ask you to refer to the mailing your received with the Christmas and New Year schedule of Masses. I ask you to take note of the times available to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before Christmas.

You are welcome to join us for the Show of Songs this Thursday at 7:00pm in the Church presented by our Music Teacher Mrs. Karen Deegan and our Pre-K students through 4th grade. It’s a wonderful way to prepare and get ready for the Christmas season.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

In today’s gospel, John the Baptist reminds the people to “make straight the way of the Lord.” What have you done these past two weeks to prepare for Jesus’ coming? Christmas is only eight days away! What other “straightening” does your life need in this next week to be better prepared to receive Jesus?

Queen of Martyrs Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy

“There is one among you whom you do not recognize.”

(Jn 1:26)

It is easy to recognize an image of Our Lord in the manger at Christmas, as well as when we look upon a crucifix. But when we look at the Consecrated Host, enshrined in the monstrance, is He as easily recognized? Pray for the gift of faith. The little baby in the manger and the Man on the cross are images of Jesus Christ, but the One Who is in the monstrance is not an image, but the Real Presence of Jesus in His glorified body, hidden within the Consecrated Host. Take the opportunity to know Jesus a little better in His Eucharistic Presence so that He becomes more easily recognized in our lives. Are you willing to become a Committed Adorer or Substitute? Please sign up at the Adoration Chapel or for more information, call Marion at (708) 424-8433.

PARISH LIBRARY NEWS Father Gary Caster, an author-priest who hails

from Peoria, has worked as a high school chaplain, religion teacher and director of Campus Ministry at several universities, has written and produced shows for EWTN and is an avid fly-fisherman. In his book, "Mary in Her Own Words," Father Caster takes those four memorable times in The New Testa-ment where Mary is quoted, and blends them with the Church's Marian tradition and his own relationship with Mary. Each chapter is a reflection on her words in Scripture, and how they serve as a guide for the life of every Christian. (It's a short Ad-vent, and this book accommodates by being a neat 133 pages.) Find our "library nook" in Martyrs' Cry Room. Take a look and take a book, before or after Masses each weekend. For more info, call Terri, at (773) 239-1041.

at 7pm in the Youth Room. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE 2017

“Going to the waterfall after work on Wednesday was the highlight of my trip this year. Looking around at all that God created for us was so inspiring; I will never forget the view. Seeing everything really showed me how much God truly loves us. I will always remember all the love I saw and shared that day.”-Katie

Queen of Martyrs Students Participate in “Spooktacular” Walk-a-thon

Students and teachers walked and ran on a very brisk day to raise funds for Queen of Martyrs School. The Family and School Association offered incentives of gift cards and a Fitbit for the top five participants. Second Grade and 8th Grade raised the most pledge dollars and earned pizza parties. Second, Third, and Eighth Grade students walked the most laps and earned a free dress down day. The students listened to music at the check in station in the St. Joseph’s Lot. They received popsicles and necklaces for completing their laps. The students raised over $5,000 in support of Queen of Martyrs School. A big Thank You to the students and their families for their generosity!
