Page 2: QUEEN OF MARTYRS CHURCHqueenofmartyrschurch.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/05-07-17-Bulletin.pdfvoice. The sheep would only listen to the voice they knew. He was the one that got them

The readings from Scripture this weekend call us to be a people who are attentive to God’s Word in our life. The responsibility as a shepherd was not an easy task. He had to work hard to gain the trust of the sheep and get them to become accustomed to his voice. The sheep would only listen to the voice they knew. He was the one that got

them through the gate so that they would be safe for the night. He was the one who stood up against the thieves and robbers so that the defenseless sheep could be kept safe. Like the shepherd, we are called to follow Christ and be an example for others. This was evident in the lives of the early Christian community. Their enthusiasm was unbelievable. They were willing to proclaim the message of the Gospel even if it meant dying for their faith. Pope Francis is calling us to develop that same kinds of enthusiasm. He encourages us to apply the Beatitudes in our daily work. How do we show mercy towards others? How are we instruments of peace who share our faith with one another? He reminds us that building unity with each other is more powerful and productive than conflict. He wants us to build peace through active and creative non-violence. It’s important for us to confront evil today more than in any time in history. We are called to imitate Jesus. The question remains: Are we ready and willing to follow Jesus in our lives and be the peacemakers we are called to be in living out the Gospel message?

We congratulate our second grade students and students from our Saturday School of Religion who made their First Communion on Saturday. It was a joyful and memorable celebration. It was spiritually uplifting. I am grateful to Ms. Smierciak, our teachers, catechists and parents for their support in helping to prepare our students for their special day.

This week, our 8th grade students will receive their school ribbons as they prepare for their graduation. It is an opportunity for us to journey with them as they remember and reminisce on their days spent at Queen of Martyrs striving towards academic excellence.

This Friday, we welcome the Superintendent of Schools in the Archdiocese, Dr. James Rigg, to Queen of Martyrs. We look forward to his visit and are excited to share with him the wonderful things and experiences our students receive from our dedicated and hard-working teachers, staff and administration.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

These last 2 weekends have been celebratory for the youth in our parish. The eighth graders were confirmed last weekend and this weekend the second graders made their first holy communion. As we celebrate with them, let us remember the importance of these two milestones in their lives. May they continue to share their love for Christ through their daily actions and relationships with others.

“The Good Shepherd has risen, who laid down his life for his sheep

and willingly died for his flock, alleluia.” (Communion Antiphon)

Today is the 54th World Day of Prayer for Vocations also known as “Good Shepherd Sunday”. It is an excellent day to come to the Good Shepherd, in Eucharistic Adoration, who laid down His life for us and beg Him to send “more workers into the fields” and thank Him for our priests who lay down their lives daily for us. No priests, No Eucharist! Every Thursday, the Adoration chapel prays a Holy Hour for the pope, priests, religious and for vocations from 8-9pm. Please join us in supporting those who give their lives for the work of Our Lord. Become a Committed Adorer. Call Marion at (708) 424-8433 for more information or sign up at the Adoration Chapel.

Queen of Martyrs Students Join With Women’s Ministry For “Journey To The Cross”

Students in grades Pre-K through 8th had an opportunity to reflect on their Lenten Journey as the viewed the beautiful Prayer Stations set up by the Queen of Martyrs Women’s Ministry. Teachers and their students discussed the questions that were posed from each Station. Students reflected on what things might keep them from prayer and how they can remove clutter from their lives to make room for Jesus in their hearts. Students were reminded to see Jesus in others even when that is difficult to do. They also read a poem titled “God on a Stick” about forgiveness. The

students then made a Popsicle-stick cross to remind them that forgiving others will set them free. Students were given chocolate kisses as a reminder of Jesus’ love for us even when we make mistakes. The presentation helped the students to remember to focus on using their time, talents, and treasures to honor Jesus by helping others and to continue to pray for those in need.
