Today we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. We welcome our teachers and catechists to our 9:30AM Liturgy. It is an opportunity for us to recognize and commission these men and women who help our children learn about their faith and encourage them to practice it in their lives. I am truly grateful and appreciative of the time and effort they put in to

support and dedicate to helping our children understand the teachings of the Catholic Church.

This weekend we also welcome Fr. Arvitas Kiguta, a priest in the Archdiocese of Chicago. He is the pastor of St. John De La Salle Parish. He is the representative this year for our Missionary Appeal. He is speaking for the people of the Kashalala Community of Tanzania. I ask you to be generous in our second collection today to support the efforts of the missionaries who minister to this community.

Raffle tickets are still available for Martyrsfest. If you have not purchased your tickets, I would encourage you to do so after all the Masses this weekend. Tickets are $50.00 each.

A reminder that next Sunday, the 11:30AM Mass will be celebrated in the St. Joseph’s parking lot (weather permitting). There will not be a 4:00PM Mass on Sunday due to the fest. Parking will be limited. I am asking all parishioners to pray for great weather next weekend. It is an opportunity for us to grow and enjoy our parish community. Looking forward to seeing you next weekend.

The Varsity football team and the cheerleaders are sponsoring their car wash today from 9:00AM to 11:30AM in the St. Louis parking lot. Your support and generosity for our athletic program is truly appreciated.

I hope many of you took the advantage to get your flu shots last Sunday. I am grateful to Jewel Osco Pharmacy for sponsoring the event and taking the time to serve our community.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

“Hear this, you who trample upon the needy…” are the opening words of today’s first reading. Although these words were written by Amos many, many years ago, they still hold true today. Amos goes on to remind us that God will look upon us and our treatment of others and “…never will forget a thing they have done!” How can you help someone less fortunate than you this week? ***The St. Vincent de Paul box will be picked up on 9/20 due to carnival. It will be returned the following week.

Each lesson will be followed by a brief discussion. Subsequent lessons will take place every other Monday. We invite you to come and bring your friends. “Harlan transformed me by once again fueling my faith with a spark. It has given me the confidence to make my faith my own, despite any judgement. Through the process of fulfilling my goals throughout the week, I found God. My goals were to work as a team in framing the house at our

worksite, to always have a positive attitude, and to jump out of my comfort zone to get to know more people. I found God in prayer this week more than ever. I felt Him when I regained the strength to finish a nail, heard the laugh of a new friend, finally raised the first wall on our worksite, and felt fearless being myself. Harlan in all its’ beauty, helped me find the faith that was already within me. Overall, Harlan has inspired me to spread the “Harlan attitude” that I observed: a loving vibe and acceptance of all people. My Harlan experience was much greater than I expected. I got to experience a new way of life that I absolutely loved and found a true purpose among God.”-Jaclyn

Queen of Martyrs School Celebrates Opening School Liturgy and Installation

Students, faculty, staff, and parents gathered together to observe the official opening of the 2016/2017 School Year. This years theme “Stand Up” was reiterated throughout the liturgy. Students were asked to “Stand Up” to lead Queen of Martyrs School in many ways. Students were asked to be leaders, standing up for the poor and the homeless and against bullying. Students were reminded of the importance of Christian sportsman-ship as Q of M Wildcats. They asked for God’s help to inspire each of them to do great things in the new school year. The students prayed that God will send energy and strength to help them meet their goals and to be true examples living out our Catholic Faith! The new Student Council members were installed as Father Ed handed the gavel to Student Council President Quinn Clifford. The student council

members vowed to share their talents and to lead with integrity for their school and classmates to help Queen of Martyrs School be the best it can be. The new school year is off to a wonderful start!

The new Altar & Rosary Blue Books are in!
