Fifth Sunday of Easter 1 April 24, 2016

Question of the Week

Question for Children: How do you make obvious that you love your family and friends? Question for Youth: The world is full of examples of people who don’t love others. What are the results of hate that you see in the world? How would the world be different if we followed Jesus’ commandment? Question for Adults: Jesus’ commandment to love another is a challenge. What will you do this week to deepen the love you have for those around you in life?

—San Isidro

"I hold the keys to death" (Revelation 1:18) Reflection: The alternative to accepting death is to try to control it by giving ourselves the authority to take life before life will make too many demands on us. Hence we have abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia. Just take control. Eliminate suffering by eliminating the person. "Euthanasia" is killing. As such, it contradicts the fact that God is God. In his "how-to" manual of suicide, Derek Humphrey, a key euthanasia advocate, writes, "If you consider God the master of your fate, then read no further" (Final Exit, p. 21). Prayer: Lord, you are in control of my life, my suffering, and my death. Amen.

TRUE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY

Can you imagine a world such as the one put before us in today’s scripture readings? Communities of believers everywhere would support and encourage one another and be identified as Christians by the way they love each other. It would be a world with no tears, no death and mourning, no crying out in pain. “Behold, I make all things new,” we hear the Son of God say in the second reading from the book of Revela-tion (21:5). Is this world of John’s vision only imaginary? Are these faithful followers for whom Jesus prayed only a sav-ior’s dream? Today they are put before us as a worthy goal. How much closer can we come to this vision of a true Christian community in our lives today? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

VERDADERA COMUNIDAD CRISTIANA

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
