Frequently Asked QuestionsAnd Their Answers
All About The R4 3DSFor DS, Dsi and Nintendo 3DS and 3DS
XL
You can always update your Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL Console. The only thing you
should always do, is make sure that your R4 3DS Card has a new firmware available for the
newest System OS Update for the 3DS Console. If it does, then download and install the new
firmware kernel and THEN update your R4 3DS Card.
If it does NOT have a new Kernel/Firmware… DO NOT update until is does. This will ensure you
can keep using your 3DS console until a firmware update is available without
interruption!
Should I Update My 3DS?
It’s actually really easy. When your 3DS prompts
you to update, you should DECLINE, and immediately visit the official site for the R4 3DS at www.R43DS.org and check to see if they
have come out with an official firmware update for this new version of the 3DS. If they have, download and install. If they have NOT, don’t
worry – they will!! Once they have a new firmware, it’s safe to run the update on your R4
3DS Card FIRST, and then update your 3DS Console after your R4 3DS firmware has been
updated!
How Do I Know If There Is a Kernel Update?
Absolutely! Even if your Nintendo 3DS does not
have this function available, the R4 3DS will allow your Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL to play
back movies and videos of multiple formats. You can use a freeware app called MoonShell, which
is a multi media player for your R4 3DS card, and will let you play DPG format movie files.
There are also other media players available that will let you play other types of movie and video
files without any issues. It works great, and runs beautifully on the 3DS!
Can I Watch Movies On My Nintendo 3DS?
A very good question indeed! Sadly, not all R4 3DS cards are created equal. There are a lot of copied versions of the R4 3DS, and because of
this, many of them will NOT work on the Nintendo 3DS (at least not the newer 4.2.09 and 4.3.0-10 updates ones) and definitely won’t work on the Nintendo 3DS XL. You see, a lot of these
clone makers are in it for a quick buck. They don’t care if you have to go and buy a new card down the road… In fact, they hope you do – and they hope to sell you the next NEW version of
the R4 3DS!
Will Every R4 Work On The Nintendo 3DS?
Now you’re talking. Here’s where you end up getting all of the support you want – and NEED – for future updates to your 3DS and 3DS XL consoles. If you buy a genuine R4 3DS card, you can rest easy knowing that you will be
able to simply update the FREE firmware kernels, and not have to worry about buying a new R4 3DS card every time the Nintendo 3DS gets a System OS Update. This is
why people who bought the real thing, haven’t had to buy another card since the very first 3DS version was released… And it costs just about $5.00 more to get a REAL R4 3DS, than it does to get a FAKE R4 3DS CARD!
What About Official R4 3DS Cards? Do They
Work?
It’s not often you can say this, but it’s true.
EVERY SINGLE ONE! From the very first Nintendo DS system, to the very latest Nintendo 3DS XL systems – and everything in between too! The DS, DS Lite. DSi, DSi XL, Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL are all supported and working right out of the box. If you have an older console, all you may
have to do is simply upgrade the firmware kernel on your card, and you’ll be all set and ready to get down to some serious gaming with your R4
3DS Card!
Which Systems Do The R4 3DS Cards Work On?
You can play all of the classic games your heart desires. With emulators for everything from the
Atari 2600, C64, MSX Computers, NES, Super NES, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive consoles – and dozens more – you’ll never run out of classic
games to play. I even use LameboyDS to load and run my old Gameboy consoles favotires.
The Neo Geo is emulated with the help of neoDS, and there’s just so much more. Games are
super easy to find online and you can download and play them all on your Nintendo 3DS or
Nintendo 3DS XL console!

This is one of the most common issues. It’s not really an issue though. Your R4 3DS probably works just fine, and your 3DS is fine too. The problem is that you’ve loaded the wrong firmware kernel on the micro SD Card. There are so many fake cards out there, that getting the right firmware can sometimes be confusing. As long as you
always make sure to get the files from the site / domain on the box of your card, you should be okay. Sometimes people download the wrong version of the firmware too. If the firmware does not support the version of your 3DS or Dsi then you simply have to wait for a new update, or
get the right version of the firmware.
