Reader profiles are very important to magazines because they enable them to sell and make money. They make money off the magazines that they sell, and the adverts that are included within their magazine. The adverts will then need to tailor to the magazines ‘theme’. This is to ensure that they are advertising to people who will be interested in their products. Magazines will then produce reader profiles so they will ensure people will look at the adverts and buy the products. Reader profiles are also so that the company producing the magazine knows who is reading their magazine. They need to know what their readers interests are, what bands they are listening to, and what brands they are buying. They make sure that the films, music, products and social networking adverts/columns are relevant to their readers interests. The magazine needs to know how many females and males read their magazine as they will tailor the adverts and stories to the gender as this will improve sales. By looking at existing reader profiles, I can then decide who will be reading my magazine so I can tailor it to their interests and likes.
