Food for Family Thought

Help your child figure out what he or she is meant to

do in life by offering these three criteria for a good

vocation:

In what work will you be happy?

In what work will you be holy?

In what work will you be effective?

Happy, holy, effective: a great way to spend life!

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY: SEPTEMBER 15: If you are serving as catechist this year, please join in celebration

for commissioning at either one of the Commissioning Masses: 10AM at St. Athanasius or 11AM at St. Agnes

Every year Catholic Churches throughout the United States celebrate and pray for the Church’s mission to

teach the Gospel to all people: this is what is designated as “Catechetical Sunday.” And each year,

Catechetical Sunday holds a unique and enlightening theme: this year’s theme is “Stay with Us,” quoting

the two disciples on the road to Emmaus who invited Jesus to stay with them. (Luke 24:13–35)

As a catechist, you are responding to a call to share the gift of faith with others, even as you deepen your

own faith. This call may have reached you through your pastor, the director of your parish’s religious

education program, or through your role as a Catholic school teacher. But know that this calling

ultimately comes from God whose Holy Spirit inspires and guides you. If you are responding to this call,

please contact the office or submit the Catechist volunteer form found on the website’s “Catechist

Corner.”

The Power to Change Your Life: Small Groups - Faith & Fellowship Small Group

Opening Session

WHEN: Sunday, September 15, 2019, 6:30PM | WHERE: St. Agnes Parish Center - 2ND Floor

All are invited to an evening of song, prayer and inspiration with Christopher Ruff, author and publisher of 6

books in the Discipleship Series of dynamic resources for small groups: "for people with busy lives but open

hearts." Come, see and hear how small groups can help you to draw closer to Jesus in prayer, share the

treasurers of our faith, grow in friendship and serve Christ.

Who is Christopher Ruff? Christopher Ruff is passionately committed to writing engaging, inspiring small-

group resources carefully crafted to fit people’s busy calendars. He calls the small-group experience “a

powerful engine for faith formation, personal renewal and community-building, and an amazing platform for

joyful outreach.” He notes that in 25 years of working for the Church – first for a large Minneapolis parish,

then for the Diocese of La Crosse – he has seen nothing that rivals the fruitfulness of small groups.

Christopher studied theology in Rome where he received his S.T.L. from the John Paul II Institute for Marriage

and the Family. He also has an M.A. in counseling psychology from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

In Rome, he met Saint John Paul II and Saint Mother Teresa multiple times and translated dozens of the

Pope’s addresses into English for L’Osservatore Romano (the Vatican newspaper). He has been the Director

of the Office for Ministries and Social Concerns for the Diocese of La Crosse since 2001.

Christopher is the author of The Discipleship Series of books, including, “Who is my Neighbor”, “As I have

Loved You”, Blessed Are You: Living the Beatitudes” and “The Greatest of These is Love”, all books Faith &

Fellowship groups have enjoyed reading over the past 5 years.

First Friday Adoration: September 6

On First Fridays, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for

Adoration from 9:30am (following Daily Mass) until

9:00pm.

During Eucharistic Adoration, we "watch and wait",

we remain "silent" in His Presence and open

ourselves to His Graces which flow from the

Eucharist ... By worshiping the Eucharistic Jesus, we

become what God wants us to be! Like a magnet, The

Lord draws us to Himself and gently transforms us.

In its fullest essence ... Eucharistic Adoration is "God

and Man reaching out for each other, at the same

time!"

Clergy Health and Retirement Trustclergytrust.org

Healthier Priests. Stronger Communities.

Funds from this special collection are managed by the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust – an independently managed trust with a majority lay board of trustees. The funds are used for the sole benefit of active and senior priests in good standing.

The strength and vibrancy of our communities depend largely on the welfare of our priests who tirelessly serve others from all walks of life.

Powerful examples of strength in community are visible across 144 cities and towns of the Archdiocese of Boston. The roots of these communities can be traced back to the work of our priests.

Pine Street Inn: A Boston priest was one of the original founders of Pine Street Inn, which provides shelter and emergency services for nearly 2,000 homeless men and women in the Boston area every day.

Cor Unum: Started by a Lawrence pastor, Cor Unum (“One Heart”) food pantry serves more than 250,000 meals annually to poverty-stricken families in Lawrence.

Addiction Support for Families: A Boston priest’s expertise in addiction and recovery has been instrumental for organizations helping families and individuals in the grips of addiction.

Rostro de Cristo: Efforts to help the poor on the margins of Ecuador’s largest city is hard work, except for those who have been inspired by a Boston priest who started Rostro de Cristo, an organization based in Boston that lives the Gospel and serves the poor.

It’s simple: healthier priests mean stronger communities. Please support clergytrust.org
