    Check out the fabulous Running and Racing Report. Our runners were very active this pastmonth with lots of races, PRs and awards. Our Young Runners and First 5K participants alsocompleted their goal race at the Italian Fest 5K! Details are on page 4.We will be holding a Fall Meeting and New Member Night on Tuesday, October 12th at 6:30 p.m.We will be discussing future club plans for the rest of 2010 and into 2011. PowerBar sampleswill be available to all who attend the meeting. We have lots of new members so this will be agreat opportunity for everyone to get to know each other a little better. Hope you can make it.We need a few more volunteers to fully staff the water stop at the Fred Winters Memorial 5K /10K on Saturday, October 9th. If you are available to help, please talk with Miriam or Cheri sowe can provide you with additional details regarding where and when to meet that morning. Ifyou havent worked a water stop previously, it is lots of fun and this is a very worthy cause.The marathon and half marathon training program will be kickingoff soon. See the flyer on page 10 for further details on howyou can train with the group for Go! St. Louis 2011. Have afriend who wants to go the distance, invite them to join you.Training starts December 4, 2010.Good Luck to everyone racing this month!Happy Running!

    When/Why did you start Running? Loose weightMiles last week: 18Favorite Distance? Hmmm 3 miles for years, but I am really starting to love the 7 mile run.Your first Race: (after high school) Italian Fest 1991Your last Race: Italian Fest 2010Favorite Race? Go! JourneyYour mantra is: My God is an awesome GodFavorite food before a race or long run? Gooey butter cake.Favorite Gadget? GPSSomething strange you always need on a run? When I am running a competitive race, I carry mylucky coin. I need all the luck I can get.

    Amount of races you've done in your life? 15.Amount of races you've done this year? 3.When I can't run, I... Complain. When I can run I complain. When I dont run I get real hyper, when I run I complain thateveryone runs by me.

    Music or no Music? If yes, favorite music: I have to have music when I run, darude...sandstorm, eifel 5...blue song &naturally Bob Dylan is my music idol.

    Favorite book? Born to Run.Favorite Movie? Crocodile Dundee.Favorite Runner? Tom Richter from the Y (Jim Fixx as a pro).Favorite brand of apparel? Under Armour.Favorite brand of shoes? Nike.How many pairs of running shoes do you have? 8.Fuel on long run or race is: Body fat (I have plenty, I can share).Last/current injury: Plantar fasciitis and a heel spur. Doctors in 1995 said I would never run again!!!PR you're most proud of: an article from the YMCA about me being a spin class instructor.Next Challenge ahead: Full marathon.A Goal further ahead you'd like to get to someday: Run any length of run in a real time.Why do you run? I owned my own business & have a tremendous amount of pressure. Two minutes into any run, I for-get that pressure and Im running on empty. While I am running one of my good runs, I feel I can conquer anything.

    No alibis work. It is just you and the road!

    Lewis & Clark Full and Half Marathon - October 3,2010. 14 red9runners will be taking on the final Lewis& Clark Marathon and Half Marathon this upcomingSunday. Come out to St. Charles on Sunday to helpcheer them on.

    Fred Winters Memorial 5K/ 10k - Saturday, October 9, 2010. The red9runners will bestaffing a water stop at the Fred Winters Memorial Run. We still need volunteers to help

    with the water stop on race day. See Miriam or Cheri for details.

    Fall Meeting and New Member Night - Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. Join us inthe Pool Viewing Room at the CMT YMCA to plan ahead for the rest of 2010 and 2011.

    OFallon YMCA Fall Finale 5k / 10k /15k - October 23, 2010. Be sure not to miss this Ycup series race.

    St. Louis Track Club Half Marathon - November 7, 2010. This is a hilly fun half that startsand ends in Clayton, MO.

    Run 4 Kids 30K Relay - November 13, 2010. This run benefits the Christian ActivityCenter. We are looking to put together a team or two for this 30k relay consisting of two5k legs and two 10k legs. See Miriam or Cheri if you are interested in a team.

    Alton River Road Run - Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 27th, 2010 - This race isa holiday tradition. Join your fellow red9runners to burn off the Thanksgiving feast!

    Go! St. Louis Marathon and Half Marathon, April 10, 2011 - Whether its your first ortwenty-first event, well help you get ready for race day. Look for a training program tostart up in December. Registration for the race opens on September 1, 2010.

    Flying Pig Marathon - May 1, 2011. This fun and hilly full and half marathon is our desti-nation event for 2011. Make plans now to attend and join in on the fun!www.flyingpigmarathon.com.

    Running & Racing Report

    September 18th was a very busy day for thered9runners. Thirty-one red9runners, YoungRunners and First 5K participants raced theItalian Fest 5K in downtown Collinsville. Kudosto Chuck, Shane, Tammy, Erick, Julie, Courtney,Eric, Sheila, Ingrid, Brook, Austin, Brian, Cheri,Natalie, Nicholas, Catherine, Hannah, Joe, Zander,Gloria, Jeremy, Zack, Mike, Laura, Michael, Layne,Sheri, Kalyn, Laka, Liza, and Sarah. Specialcongratulations go out to all twelve of our YoungRunners along with eight First 5K participantswho finished the race after training with the YMCA over the past few months. Way to goeveryone! Two of our young girls even received age group awards for the 5K in the 10 and underage category - congratulations to Hannah who received 1st place and Natalie who received 3rd.Congrats also go out to red9runners Shane and Chuck who each received 1st in their age group,and to Erick, Jeremy and Julie who set PRs that morning. A very big thank you to our red9runnervolunteers who worked behind the scenes to help with everything from stuffing packets to packetpickup and pulling tags on race morning. Thank you Darrell, Debbie, Betsy, Eric, Kari, Lea, Sheilaand YMCA volunteer Cinda! Special thanks to our Young Runner and First 5K volunteer coaches,Betsy, Gloria, Ingrid, Lea, Tammy, Patrick and Aaron; and race day helpers, Hannah and Ashley.Also on September 18th, Miriam and Tom took on the hills at the Harvest Half Marathon in Leba-non, IL. Tom finished 2nd overall and Miriam finished with a PR despite stopping to help an injuredrunner on the course! Tom also ran a the Road Runner Marathon on September 25th. Way to goTom and Miriam!

    Several runners were on the road in Ohio that same morning. Dan and Jeremie ran the full andHolly ran the half at the Air Force Marathon in Dayton, Ohio. This was a first marathon for Danand Jeremie and both finished in under 4 hours! Great job everyone!Starting at 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 25th, Patrick and his team began the Berryman 36Hour Adventure Race. They completed the race 34 hours later, and he even came to run Mondaynight at run club - Awesome! Patrick has the Berryman Epic 50 Mile Mountain Bike Race comingup.     On October 3rd, fourteen of ourred9runners are doing the Lewis& Clark full and half marathon.If you are available, come out toSt. Charles to cheer on the teamat the final Lewis & Clark journey!Remember to share your goalsand race information.Happy Running! Happy Racing!

    Discussion will include Club plans for the rest of this year as well as new things onthe horizon for 2011. In addition we will talk about nutrition and fueling. PowerBarsamples will be available for all who attend.

    year.

    YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice throughprograms that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

    Train with the Collinsville Maryville Troy YMCA and the red9runners for the Go! St. Louis

    Marathon or Half Marathon on April 10th 2011. Training Program includes the following:

    Long run on Saturday mornings complete with water and electrolyte beverage stops;Group runs offered four times per week;Customized training schedule;Injury Prevention and Stretching Clinic;Nutrition / Fueling / Hydration Clinic;Mental Preparation Clinic;Pre-Race Team Meeting;Event day support and more.

    Train with an experienced marathon coach and ACE Certified

    Personal Trainer.

    Take advantage of the camaraderie, inspiration and encouragementof training in a group setting where everyone has a common goal.

    Training runs start and finish at the CMT YMCA and begin on

    December 4th 2010. Beginners, run/walkers and runners of all

    pace levels are welcome!

    Registration opens on September 8, 2010.(Members $85 / Non-members $129)
