Dr. Sarvenaz Zand is a board-certified dermatologist with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a dual M.D. from Harvard University and M.I.T. After carrying out a Melanoma Fellowship at Harvard University, she did her dermatology training at UC Davis where she was also Chief Resident. Dr. Zand is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Mohs Surgery, the Women’s Dermatologic Society, and the Marin Medical Society, and has a thriving private practice in Marin County, California.
Christin was previously head of Research and Development for Perricone MD where she launched some of their most successful skincare products. SEEK SHADE WHEN POSSIBLE. Sun is the #1 contributor to skin damage and the appearance of aging, so protect yourself and your skin. Wear long sleeves and sunglasses, a wide brimmed hat, and avoid being outside during peak hours (10 am – 2 pm). Most importantly, wear a physical SPF 20+ on your body and face when exposed to sunlight and re-apply every 2 hours.
DEVELOP AN EXERCISE PROGRAM THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU. Exercise is one of the most rapid age-reversing methods available. It helps you maintain muscle tone, weight, flexibility in the joints and boosts serotonin production in the brain. Plus, sweating is great for your skin. A good way to add exercise to your life is by walking. Next time you are on the phone or in a meeting, take a walk if you can.
GET BEAUTY REST. Adequate rest helps the skin regenerate and restore overnight. Target 8 hours of sleep per night so the skin and body have time to repair. The added bonus: a clear head.
TRY TO ELIMINATE PHYSICAL TOXINS FROM YOUR DIET. Eat a “rainbow diet” of fresh fruit and vegetables where all the colors of the rainbow are represented. Eat foods with healthy fats, such as seeds, nuts, and avocados, high quality protein such as fish, poultry and tofu, and low-glycemic carbs including vegetables and whole grains. Limit consumption of alcohol, coffee and sugar which contribute to infl ammation – a leading cause of aging.
DRINK A LOT OF WATER. Dehydration causes the skin to look dry and dull. Think about plums versus prunes – there's a big difference. You want your body to be more like a plum. Water flushes your system and keeps your body hydrated, so drink a lot of it…at least 8-10 glasses a day.
