The Green Line is being constructed in phases. Phase 1, from H Street to Township 9, opened in June 2012. Regional Transit is
currently studying the feasibility of the next extension, which will be selected based on future funding sources, costs and the phasing of light rail operations.
Concurrent with the Green Line to the Airport extension from the 7th & Richards/Township 9 Station, Regional Transit is also planning improvements to the segment of the Green
Line adjacent to the Sacramento Valley Station (SVS). This project will re-route the existing Green Line light rail services
to more directly serve the SVS. This work is being planned concurrently with the Downtown Riverfront Streetcar project.

The Green Line will offer commuters a crucial alternative to the I-5 gridlock. With up to 16 potential station locations identified along the alignment, the Green Line will improve access between residential neighborhoods, shopping and employment centers, proposed developments, the Golden 1 Center, a redeveloped Sleep Train Arena area and the Sacramento International Airport. These connections will be a significant catalyst for economic development and will enhance the livability of the region.
