REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICES
NAIDOC WEEK In recognition of Naidoc Week last week, a number of activities were held
across the school. We were blessed to be visited by local indigenous man, Wyley
who visited each class and discussed his culture, demonstrated some traditional
dance and shared his love of the digeridoo.
Over the week, there were a number of in class activities conducted with some
of the work currently on display in the corridors, including a very impressive one
outside of the Year 5/6 class!
On Thursday, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Mudge provided the students with the
opportunity to try some indigenous food which the kids really enjoyed and on
Friday in PE, Mr Braun taught the students some indigenous games such as
Marn-grook, Kai Wed, Nandrra-rna and Koolchee.
Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is a Christ-Centred community equipping each student for life.
Last Wednesday, 11th November, our Year 7 School Captains, Grace, Isabella, Natalie and Amali,
accompanied by Mr Borgas, travelled to the Memorial Park to represent our school at the official RSL
Remembrance Day Service. The student leaders represented us well, laying a wreath at the memorial as a
mark of respect and met with local Mayor, Mr Leon Stasinowsky at the conclusion of the official service.
Back at school, Year 7 students, Olivia, Emily, Marco, Hamish, Hugh and Ethan helped to run our Service of
Remembrance which included the lowering of the flags (thank you Hugh and Ethan), the reading of the Ode
(thank you Marco), the reading of In Flanders Fields (thank you Hamish, Olivia and Emily) as well as a minute
silence. The entire school did a fantastic job at observing the minute silence, with all of the students from Foun-
dation to Year 7 staying incredibly quiet (you could have almost heard a pin drop). Thank you to all of our Year
7 students who helped to commemorate this special day.
WALL OF REMEMBRANCE In the lead up to Remembrance Day, each student was provided with the opportunity to either add a poppy
or a hand with their name and the name/names of any family members who have served in a war to the Wall
of Remembrance in the office. Nearly every student contributed to the wall which is currently on display in the
front office.
Teaching children about our Learner Profiles provides them with the toolkit to successfully relate to others. To
celebrate the demonstration of these principles we would like to award the following students this week:
Year 7 Year 5/6 Year 3/4
Year 1/2 Foundation/Year 1
CORNER OF PEACE
God assures those of us who are His children that we need not fear. He is with us to strengthen, uphold and
help us. We know that He sent His Son so that through Him we can be saved from the fear and fate of eternal
death, rather inheriting eternal life. However those of us who are strong need to always remember that, in
turn, we are responsible to care for our neighbour, and also for those who are weak and vulnerable.
God bless you all this week, Moira

Health Advice With the current COVID-19 outbreak
in Adelaide and the restrictions that
are currently in place, we ask that if
your child is unwell that you keep
them home until they have fully
recovered and if you are feeling
unwell that you stay off the school
grounds until you are recovered.
As per the recommendations, we ask
that on-site visits to WLPS please be
kept to a minimum. If you need to see
a teacher, help your child etc, you
are more than welcome to still come
to school, we just ask that social
distancing and good hygiene
practices are adhered to. Also, it is
recommended that all unnecessary
travel be avoided to keep everyone
safe.

Hi everyone,
We have now started collecting non-perishable items at school again. If you
didn’t know already, each year the school collects non-perishable items to give
to Food Bank for those who need it most this Christmas. We have given the
challenge to each class to get 50 items per class so that’s 250 items in the
school. There will be a box in each classroom and in the hall for each class to
put there non perishable items in. Some great non-perishable items to bring in
are can of corn, lollies, pasta, chips, pretty much anything that has been sitting
in your cupboard forever.
Last Friday we were very lucky to have the kindy kids come for there first
transition. We welcome to the school Dennison, Jude, Evelyn, Makyla, and
Xavier. The kids were very fortunate to be able to have Miss Driver lead them
through a day at school.
This Wednesday the lovely most amazing, beautiful, talented Year 7’s have their
first full day transition at the Waikerie High School. We encourage you to have a
think about how it was for you when you graduated primary school and went
into high school, we highly recommend you have a conversation with your child
about this topic.
Have a great week, Amali, Grace, Isabella and Natalie
