Vancouver Watch Outside of Lindsey Vonn, Stiegler may be the top U.S. hopeful in the women’s slalom come February. She has been competitive in the event for the better part of a decade and already has Olympic experience. Personal Stiegler is the daughter of former Austrian skier Pepi Stiegler, a three-time Olympic medalist, and named after Resi Hammerer, an Austrian skier who won bronze in the downhill in 1948. Stiegler was skiing at age 2 and racing at 6. She skied to the bus stop on her way to school. She credits her parents and Olympic gold medalist Diann Roffe, her coach in the U.S. development program, for her success. Stiegler suffered a broken left arm and ligament damage in her right knee in a December 2007 crash, which sidelined her until the 2009 World Championships in February. Did You Know…?
