Market Demand, Mbdoe Market Structure, %
The demand for Oil Products in Africa will increase by about 1.5 MM
BPSD between 2013-2030
Within this time frame however, the demand for Fuel Oil demand will
decrease

More Crude processing to meet higher domestic demands More Fuel Oils produced by African refineries
Fuel Oils will have reduced outlet in Africa and reduced Worldwide export outlets
Potential investments in Africa
• Naphtha processing for octane improvement: isomerization and reforming
• Distillate HDS units
• VGO & Residue conversion

Many African Crudes Atm Residues can be cracked directly without
pretreatment. Their low ConCarbons would even enable refineries to
mix African Crudes with higher ConCarbon & Cheaper Crudes from
other continents
For moderate size refineries, Cracking Atm Residues (and not only
VGO) will make it easier to reach the minimum capacity required for a
good return on investment

Conversion Units are expected to be built in African
refineries over the next few years or next decade
Owing to the nature of many African Crudes, RFCCs
could play an important role in African refining for
tomorrow
Axens / Technip Stone & Webster are by far the most
experienced licensors in RFCC
› 40 RFCC units licensed since 1981
› 2-3 times more RFCCs in operation than the nearest
competitor
