NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN
ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 9, 2020
First Reading: 1 Kings 19:9a, 11-13a After fleeing from the revenge of the King of Israel, Elijah hid in a cave, but at the command of God, he went outside and stood on a mountain. There the Lord came to him, not in the wind nor in the earthquake, but in a “tiny whispering sound.”
Second Reading: Romans 9:1-5 Paul is deeply pained because the Jews - in spite of everything that has been given to them - have rejected Christ.
Gospel: Matthew 14:22-33 Matthew vividly recounts the event of Jesus walking on the water. When the disciples see this, they are terrified, and Jesus chastises them for their fear. Peter begs Christ to let him walk on the water; he is at first brave but begins to sink and loses faith, crying out, “Lord save me!” Christ rescues him for his faltering faith.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SAINT AEDAN FOOD PANTRY
SUMMER DRIVE In order to have enough food for the Summer months your SVDP Food Pantry needs your help. Please bring a bag of non-perishable groceries
or paper products or a plastic ShopRite card when you come to church. It’s really very simple……if your family eats or uses an item, so do the families we help. You can leave your bags in the rear of the Church or outside the front door at 3 Reld. As always, we thank you.

GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE
TO A NEIGHNOR IN NEED
SAINT AEDAN BLOOD DRIVE
SUNDAY, AUGUST 23RD SAVE THE DATE – PLEASE!
Monsignor Nevin is urging all of you who are eligible donors to set aside August 23rd to come in and join him in making a donation of blood or platelets. There may be other drives in the area but we hope that you and our local friends and neighbors will plan on donating right here in our own parish. Because of the last four months, community blood drives have been curtailed resulting in a critical shortage of blood supplies at the New York Blood Bank. We thank Kieran McCormack and his committee for, once again, making this annual parish blood drive possible. Donors of every blood type (especially 0+) are needed. (Young men and women who are 16 years of age require parental permission). Donations must be made by appointment only. (8:30 AM – 2:00 PM) Sorry walk-ins cannot be accommodated at this time. PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TODAY! CALL (800) 933-2566 OR GO TO WWW.NYBC.ORG AND CLICK ON DONATE. *We are utilizing our spacious, airconditioned parish gym in order to ensure that we have lots and lots of space for social distancing. *Temperature checks will be performed. *Facial coverings are required. Please “step up to the plate” and don’t just sit back and leave it to others. Donating blood, the gift of life, is a very powerful corporal work of mercy. Thank God that you are in the position of being a donor and not a receiver.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ RENEW & REBUILD CAMPAIGN UPDATE
UPDATED AS OF JULY 26, 2020 Our last report from the Archdiocese, dated July 26th indicated that we had thus far received $920,247.00 of our overall pledges of $1,387,825.98 from 304 donors. This accounts for 66.8% of our overall goal leaving another $480,228.00 still to be collected. Along the way we have, unfortunately, had 36 lapsed donor pledges from those who had made payments early on in the campaign. These projected lapsed pledges, if unchanged, will mean a loss of $136,28100. There are another 14 pledges which, over the past three years, have seen no payments at all. This represents another projected loss of $27,200.00. All told, our projections of “lost revenue” total; $163,281.00. or 12% of our original pledge total. (These figures pre-date the financial crunch of the coronavirus.) Realizing the difficult financial times many of our parishioners are living under, all I can ask is that those of you whose personal financial means will allow, please continue to honor your pledges by sending in your payments on a regular basis. If you have experienced any difficulty with the redemption process, please contact our parish secretary, Fran Amendola, and she will help you work it out. Not a part of our R & R Campaign three years ago? We urge those new to our parish and those who were not in a position to give three years ago, to pledge or contribute directly to our Saint Aedan Parish Capital Fund. 100% of this money remains right here in our parish. Please check out our parish web site or else contact our parish office for further information on how you can contribute. God bless you. Saint Aedan pray for us. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Registration for the 2020-2021 PREP year is open ONLINE! At present, we are hoping for a return to our regular PREP classes this fall. Families with children who attended classes this year have been sent emails from Parish Giving containing a link for them to register. If you did not receive the link you must call Parish Giving at 866-307-7140 as it is the only way to have it resent. New families should email us at [email protected] and we will send information and a link. All families must be registered members of St. Aedan’s. If not, you should call the Rectory at 735-7405 to do so before registering. Please be assured that we are doing all in our power to ensure a safe as well as effective religious education experience for our children as they return to school this fall. Specifics will be provided as we approach the end of summer and the beginning of our school year. Adults interested in volunteering in our Religious Education Program are asked to contact the PREP office Monday-Thursday at 735-2036 or email <staedan3@veriozon .net>
Throughout the summer months - The PREP office will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-3 to answer questions or else assist you with the registration process. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
