TWENTY - NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
OCTOBER 22, 2017
First Reading: Isaiah 45:1, 4-6 Cyrus, King of Persia and friend to the Jewish people, becomes the Lord’s anointed one, and through God’s intervention, returns the Jews to their own country.
Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5b Paul rejoices that the Thessalonians, newly converted to Christianity, are displaying remarkable constancy in their new-found faith.
Gospel: Matthew 22:15-21 Seeking to entrap Jesus in his speech, the hostile and hypocritical Pharisees ask him this dangerous question, “Is it lawful to pay tax to the emperor or not?” Realizing their treacherous motives, Jesus asks for a Roman coin, and pointing to the inscription of Caesar’s, he answers, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, but give to God what is God’s.”

SECOND ANNUAL PARISH CONCERT FRIDAY EVENING, NOVEMBER 3RD
SAVE THE DATE! . The concert is free of charge and those who attended last year know that this first class event is an evening not to be missed. Hospitality will be provided in the gym immediately following the concert. The parish raffle drawing will also take place at that time. Save the date on your calendars – Friday evening, November 3rd at 7 PM in the church. Our parish maestro, Matthew Surapine, will, once again be presenting us with a very talented as well as diversified concert program consisting of solos, duets, singing groups and musicians _______________________________________________
BIRTHRIGHT BABY BOTTLE DRIVE Our Parish is, once again, “hitting the bottle” by hosting it’s annual two-week fundraising drive on behalf of Birthright of Rockland County. Last year Birthright ministered to over 300 women and their babies with free pre-natal classes, baby care classes, one-on-one support and other help. If you have not yet done so, please take home a Birthright Baby Bottle, fill it with coins, cash or a check and return it to the church or rectory by October 22nd. Our generosity will enable Birthright to continue helping women in crisis pregnancies in our community. Precious lives will be saved because of us. Thank you for your traditional generosity. _____________________________________________
2018 ANNOUNCED MASS BOOK IS OPEN The Mass Book for 2018 is now open. You may come to the rectory to reserve your Masses. Due to the popular demand for Announced Intentions, we request your cooperation in limiting your initial request to SIX MASSES per family only three of which may be on a Saturday evening. The requested stipend is $15 for a weekday Mass and $25 for a Sunday/Holyday Mass. + In fairness to all, The Sanctuary Lamp is limited to three requests per family. Sign-up sheet will be in this week’s Sunday bulletin. + Memorializing the Altar Wine & Hosts for Sunday and weekday masses is also an option. The name of the person being memorialized will be printed in the Sunday bulletin each week just as we do for the Sanctuary Lamp. _______________________________________________

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
