THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER
APRIL 10, 2016
First Reading: Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41 The high priest chastised Peter and the other apostles for continuing to preach when they had been ordered to stop. Peter replied he would rather obey God than men, considering God's power even over death. They are again warned to stop speaking of Jesus, and then freed.
Second Reading: Revelation 5:11-14 John had a vision of many angels and all the living creatures of the world gathered around a throne. The angels cried out that the slain Lamb was worthy of receiving power, glory and praise. Then every creature on earth called out praise to God and the Lamb, and the elders fell down and worshipped.
Gospel: John 21:1-19 Jesus appeared to the disciples for the third time since his resurrection while they were fishing. They hadn't caught anything, and then Jesus advised them to cast their net from the other side of the boat. When they did this, they caught a great number of fish. Jesus then asked Peter three times, "Do you love me?" When Peter said he did, Jesus asked him to tend and feed his sheep.

Dear Friends in the Lord, A blessed Easter! I'm sure you have heard that during this Jubilee Year of Mercy we are holding a number of "Mercy Saturdays" throughout the Archdiocese of New York. I want to invite you to attend the upcoming Mercy Saturday on April 16, at the Salesian National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Stony Point, N.Y. (Marian Shrine). We will conclude with Mass at 5P.M. and then a light reception. Our aim is to focus on the call of Pope Francis: that we reflect in a special way on God's mercy toward us, and our need to be merciful toward each other. OUR BEAUTIFUL EASTER FLOWERS Thanks to the traditional generosity of so many of you, we were able to enjoy some truly spectacular floral displays this year. (Check out our parish WEB SITE.) Some of the flowers made their debut at the Holy Thursday Mass in the church and then later on at the Repository and Eucharistic Adoration held in the parish meeting room. When the lights were turned on at our Holy Saturday Vigil, the new Easter banners and displays of multi colored hydrangeas, tulips, daffodils, lilies and roses presented us with a beautiful scene which was somewhat reminiscent of the scripture verse, “How wonderful is your dwelling place Lord God Almighty….” Then, throughout the Octave of Easter and now continuing for the remainder of Easter Season, we will continue to enjoy this beauty and color which is only fitting for the celebration of the Lord’s resurrection and the promise of our own future resurrection. We would like to thank Mary Ann Walker and her staff from Pearl River Florist who worked with us to decorate the church, meeting room and gym. Also, this year, our parish will enjoy an added benefit when Mary Ann returns to plant the flowers around the church and parish house so that we may enjoy them again, year after year. _____________________________________

THE SISTERS OF SAINT JOSEPH MOMBASA, KENYA
Each year at this time we are pleased to welcome guest priests and religious who speak to us about the work of the Propagation of the Faith, in particular, the very special ministry performed by their own particular community or mission. Next week, we will welcome Sister Lucy and Sister Ursula of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Archdiocese of Mombasa, Kenya. The sisters live and work among ordinary people following in the footsteps of Saint Joseph in simplicity, service and prayer. Their ministry involves pastoral work, education and health care in the most neglected areas of Kenya and Tanzania. They deal with many sick children, women, youth and orphans including HIV/AIDS affected people of all ages and work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of the poor and downtrodden who live in extreme poverty. They are the face of Christ to the neediest of our brothers and sisters and we are privileged to welcome them, listen to their experiences and support them by our prayers and financial assistance. _____________________________________ WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
SUNDAY, APRIL 17TH This day is also known as “Good Shepherd Sunday.” The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations is to publically fulfill the Lord’s instruction to “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt. 9:38; Lk 10:2) While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male & female contemplative & apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life. Here at Saint Aedan’s we are blessed to have one our own, Ryan A. Muldoon, in his first year of studies for the priesthood at Pontifical North American College in Rome. Please remember Ryan and his fellow seminarians in your ongoing prayers. _____________________________________
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS O God, Father of Mercies, Provider of a bountiful Harvest, send your Graces upon those you have called to gather the fruits of Your labor, preserve and strengthen others in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ. Open the hearts of Your children that they may discern a love and desire to surrender themselves to serving others in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ. Teach all Your faithful to follow their respective paths in the life guided by Your Divine Word and Truth. Through the intercession of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, all the Angels, and saints, humbly hear our prayers, and grant Your Church’s needs, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
