return to our regular mass schedule and will be able once again to
gather for mass. This has been
long in coming and our reopening will be gradual.

entering. Hand sanitizer is available on the wall.
No more than four people are allowed in the front re-ception
area. All others are asked to form a line out-side until there is
space.

¡Bienvenidos! Existe un viejo proverbio que dice: "la ausencia
hace crecer el cariño". En realidad, se atribuye al antiguo poeta
romano Sexto y nos recuerda que cuando los buenos amigos se
mantienen separados, a menudo se produce un sentimiento de mayor
afecto cuando pueden estar nuevamente juntos. ¡Qué cierto es esto!
Debo decir que si eres como yo, dos cosas que extrañaste más desde
que el coronavirus invadió nuestra ciudad fueron las misas cada
semana y recibir la Eucaristía. Durante los últi-mos meses de
cierre, a menudo pensaba en cuánto extrañaba verlos a todos
regularmente y re-unirme para orar. Ha sido igual para mi como para
cada uno de ustedes. Sé que todos los de-más miembros del equipo
parroquial sienten lo mismo que yo. Entonces, espero que poda-mos
reunirnos nuevamente "nuestros corazones crecerán más cariñosos" y
todos apreciaremos el regalo que cada uno de nosotros somos el uno
para el otro. Mi esperanza y oración es que esta separación el uno
del otro por tanto tiempo nos pueda ayudar a fortalecernos y
unirnos más como comunidad parroquial.
Sabes tan bien como yo que el mundo, nuestro país y nuestro
vecindario han experimen-tado algunos eventos que cambian la vida.
Sospecho que el coronavirus cambiará la forma en que nos
relacionamos, la forma en que nos reunimos, la forma en que rezamos
durante bastan-te tiempo, si no para siempre. Las cosas no serán lo
mismo. Al mismo tiempo, el asesinato de George Floyd provocó
protestas, disturbios y destrucción en todo el país. Nuestro barrio
no se salvó. ¿La Grand Concourse y Fordham Rd volverán a ser lo
mismo? Probablemente no.
Todos estos eventos nos recuerdan que el racismo todavía está
con nosotros y, como cristianos y católicos, tenemos que hacer todo
lo posible para hablar en contra de las injusti-cias que tantas
personas de color y minorías enfrentan en nuestra ciudad. Oponerse
al racismo y al prejuicio debe ser parte de la postura pro vida de
la iglesia. Una ética de vida consistente exige que toda la vida
sea respetada y protegida. En el momento en que nos encontramos
cre-yendo que es más importante proteger la vida de un grupo de
seres humanos que de otros, he-mos dejado de ser pro-vida. Como
dijo el Arzobispo Gómez: "El asesinato de Floyd es un pe-cado que
clama al cielo por justicia".
Notará algunos cambios cuando regrese a misa y se encontrará con
una serie de nuevas normas y reglamentos. Estos pueden parecer un
poco drásticos. Sin embargo, sepa que los hemos implementado para
mantener a todos seguros y saludables. Puede encontrar en inglés y
español todas las reglas que deben seguirse en mis cartas en el
sitio web de la parroquia. Míra-los y familiarízate con ellos, ya
que estarán cerca por un tiempo.
La oficina de la parroquia está abierta nuevamente. El nuevo
horario de apertura de la oficina es de 9 a.m. a 7 p.m. de lunes a
viernes, de 10 a.m. a 6 p.m. el sábado y de 10 a.m. a 2 p.m. el
domingo. Solo podemos tener un número limitado de personas en el
área de espera de la oficina. Sea paciente y siga las instrucciones
de las secretarias.
En este momento, la sala de reuniones parroquiales no se puede
utilizar para reuniones. La razón de esto es que es demasiado
pequeño para la mayoría de nuestros grupos. El distan-ciamiento
social en todas las reuniones sigue siendo necesario y continuará

Welcome Back! There is that old proverb “absence makes the heart
grow fond-er”. It actually is attributed to the ancient Roman poet
Sextus and reminds us that when good friends are kept apart, a
feeling of greater affection often follows when they can once again
be together. How true this is!
I must say, if you are like me two things you missed the most
since the coronavirus swept into our city was going to mass each
week and receiving the Eucharist. Over the past few months of
shut-down I often thought of how much I missed seeing all of you on
a regular basis and gathering for prayer. I am same is true for
each of you. I know that everyone else on the staff here feels the
same way I do. So, I hope now that we can gather again “our hearts
will grow fonder” and we all will appreciate the gift that each of
us are to each other. My hope and prayer is that this separation
from each other for so long may help us to grow strong-er and more
united as a parish community.
You know as well as I do that the world, our country and our
neighborhood has experi-enced some life changing events. I suspect
the coronavirus will change the way we relate to each other, the
way we gather, the way we pray for quite some time if not forever.
Things will not be the same. At the same time, the murder of George
Floyd sparked off protests, riots and destruction throughout the
country. Our neighborhood was not spared. Will the Grand Con-course
and Fordham Rd ever be the same again? Probably not.
These events all remind us that racism is still with us and as
Christians and Catholics we have to do all we can to speak out
against the injustices that so many people of color and mi-norities
face in our city. Opposing racism and prejudice must be a part of
the church’s pro-life stance. A consistent life ethic demands that
all life is respected and protected. The moment we find ourselves
believing that it is more important to protect the life of one
group of human beings over others we have ceased being pro-life. As
Archbishop Gomez said: “The killing of Floyd is a sin that cries
out to heaven for justice.”
You will notice some changes when you come back to mass and will
encounter a num-ber of new rules and regulations. These may seem a
bit drastic. However, please know that we have implemented them to
keep everyone safe and healthy. You can find in both English and
Spanish all the rules that have to be followed in my letters on the
parish website. Please look over them and become familiar with them
since they will be around for a while.
The parish office is now open again. The new hours for the
office to be open are from 9am – 7pm Monday – Friday, 10am – 6pm on
Saturday and 10am – 2pm on Sunday. We can only have a limited
number of people in the waiting area of the office. Please be
patient and follow the instructions of the secretaries.
At this time the parish meeting room cannot be used for
meetings. The reason for this is that it is too small for most of
our groups. Social distancing at all gatherings is still necessary
and will continue for some time. Any group that would like to
consider meeting in the church, cafeteria or the gym must first
speak to Fr Mike. Until further notice there cannot be any flea
markets.
Let us pray that one day soon we can get back to some type of
normalcy!

New Regulations
When you come back to church, you will see that things will be
quite different. We still are under restrictions as to what can be
done because of the coronavirus. Only 25% of the capacity of the
church can be used. We still need to make sure that we provide the
safest environment in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic which
still affects us. For this reason the following General Principles
will be followed.
The obligation to attend Sunday Mass will continue to be
suspended until fur-ther notice.
Those who are at higher risk for COVD-19 (i.e. those who are
older than 65 or who have underlying health conditions) are urged
not to come to church for Mass.
For the weekend masses, please come early since only a limited
number of peo-ple will be able to attend the larger masses (6pm
Saturday and 11am Sunday) and everyone has to be seated by the
ushers.
All those who come to mass over the age of 2 must wear facemasks
in public and when attending church during the entire mass. The
masks can be removed or lowered when receiving communion.
Entrance to the Church will only be through the chapel door
located on Valen-tine Ave between the Rectory and School building.
Please practice social dis-tancing while waiting on line to enter
the church.
All those entering the church must sanitize their hands. All
those present at mass must sit 6 feet or more away from others.
Families
and those who live in the same apartment may sit together.
Please follow the di-rections of the ushers who will take you to
your seats.
The sacristy is off limits to all except those who will be
fulfilling a liturgical function during the upcoming mass (priest,
lector, musicians, Eucharistic Minis-ter, sacristan, altar
servers.
Entrance to the rest rooms will be through the door in the
chapel leading to the restrooms. Those on line must keep social
distance which is marked on the floor. Children under the age of 10
must be accompanied by a parent or another adult with the parent’s
permission.
Once the church is filled to 25% capacity, parishioners will be
directed to the gym. There will be a second mass celebrated at 6pm
(Spanish) on Saturday in the gym and at 11am Sunday (Spanish) in
the gym. At other times, mass will be livestreamed from the church
and communion distributed to those in the gym.
A priest will be available from 5 – 5:30pm on Saturday in the
back entranceway of the church near Ryer Ave for confessions.
Additional confessions times can be arranged with a priest or will
be announced. The confessionals will not be used at this time.

In addition to these, you will notice some changes in the way
masses are celebrat-
ed. These temporary changes for the protection of all
include:
There will be no offertory procession There will be no sign of
peace during the mass. All priests, lectors, sacristans and
Eucharistic ministers will sanitize their hands
before and after mass and distributing communion. The precious
blood will not be distributed during communion. All ministers of
Holy Communion will wear masks during the time of distribu-
tion. Given the frequency of direct contact with saliva in the
distribution of Holy
Communion on the tongue, it is strongly recommended that every
consideration should be made by each individual to receive the host
reverently in open hands for the protection of all. Those who
choose to receive on the tongue are not to come down the center
aisle. They are invited to get on line in front of the Holy Family
statue where a Eucharistic Minister will distribute communion and
their hands can be sanitized after each person receives.
Those distributing communion will not be placing their hands on
the heads of children or adults who are not receiving communion in
the form of a “blessing” during the distribution of communion. We
ask that all those who are not receiv-ing communion to make an act
of spiritual communion in their places.
All music books and missals have been removed from the church.
Music will be provided by musicians at each mass.

Nuevas Regulaciones
Cuando vuelvas a la iglesia, verás que las cosas serán bastante
diferentes. Todavía esta-mos bajo restricciones en cuanto a lo que
se puede hacer debido al coronavirus. Solo se puede usar el 25% de
la capacidad de la iglesia. Todavía tenemos que asegurarnos de
proporcionar el ambiente más seguro en medio de la pandemia de

feligreses serán dirigidos al gimnasio. Habrá una segunda misa
celebrada a las 6pm (español) el sábado en el gimnasio y a las 11
am el domingo (español) en el gimnasio. En otras ocasiones, la misa
se transmitirá en vivo desde la iglesia y la comunión se
distribuirá a los que es-tán en el gimnasio.
Un sacerdote estará disponible de 5 a 5:30 pm el sábado en la
entrada trasera de la
iglesia cerca de Ryer Ave para confesarse. Se pueden organizar
tiempos de confesio-
nes adicionales con un sacerdote o se anunciarán. Los
confesionarios no serán utili-
zados en este momento.

Además de estos, notará algunos cambios en la forma en que se
celebran las misas. Estos cambios temporales para la protección de
todos incluyen:
No habrá procesión de ofertorio.
No habrá señales de paz durante la misa.
Todos los sacerdotes, lectores, sacristanes y ministros
eucarísticos desinfectarán sus manos antes y después de la misa y
distribuirán la comunión.
La sangre preciosa no se distribuirá durante la comunión.
Todos los ministros de la Sagrada Comunión usarán máscaras
durante el tiempo de distribución.
Dada la frecuencia del contacto directo con la saliva en la
distribución de la Sa-grada Comunión en la lengua, se recomienda
encarecidamente que cada indivi-duo haga todo lo posible para

de comunión espiritual en sus lugares.
