PROCESS The brand new wheelchairs we deliver would sell for $500 in a medical sup- ply store, but because we purchase them by sea containers of 110 to 280 wheelchairs, and de- liver them directly to the country of desnaon, we can do this for only $150 per wheelchair. HELPING Rotarians have delivered hun- dreds of thousands of wheelchairs around the world, and right here at home. This hands-on service project addresses the needs of people who have suffered the affects of Polio and many other reasons for immobility. A wheelchair brings freedom, hope, dignity and independence. MISSION The American Wheelchair Mission is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering mobility into the lives of people with physical dis-abilities who have no means to acquire a wheelchair. Over 100 million children, teens and adults through-out the world are in need of mobility assistance.

IMPACT The delivery of a wheelchair to a person without mobility improves the qual-ity of life for the entire family. Children can go to school, adults can work to support their fam-ily, and the elderly can get out of a bed they may have been in for years. We estimate that each wheelchair improves an average of ten lives!

People are receiving the gifts of mobility, hope, dignity, freedom, and independence!

WHEELCHAIRS FOR CHILDRENA major focus of the American Wheelchair Mission is to supply wheelchairs to children throughout Latin America in association with the Teletón rehabilita-tion centers for children. These 85 world-class facili-ties in 13 countries are able to save children from the prison of immobility with physical and occupational therapy, medical treatments, and mobility devices.

Your club or district can sponsor the delivery of an en-tire container of 110 to 280 wheelchairs to the desti-nation of your choice, from our list of approved des-tination countries, including right here at home. You can coordinate a trip to participate in the wheelchair distributions, include other humanitarian projects, and develop sister club relationships with fellow Rotarians in other countries. This project has been voted the #1 “bang for your buck” service project by clubs and dis-tricts involved in our program. For information about other mobility aids and wheelchair designs we deliver, please contact Chris Lewis at [email protected].
