Chairman Norm Sutherland warmly welcomed guest speakers Amanda Pugh and Peter Dunne from WestVic Staffing Solutions.

Amanda and Peter have taken up roles in the expanded field of Work for the Dole. From 1 July the require-ment to participate in Work for the Dole broadens to require everyone between the ages of 19 and 49 who has been unemployed for more than 12 months to take part.

Employment services such as WestVic are on the hunt for work placements in community projects for 15 hours a week.

Work for the Dole delivers an opportunity for unemployed people to develop ‘work readiness’ and possibly a reference for their resume. It can be as simple as learning to show up on

time and appropriate workplace behaviour.

For community groups this program can provide labour towards their projects. To be eligible to take a Work for the Dole person an organisa-tion must:

Provide a safe work environment

Provide 15 hours per week of work

For six months

Provide supervision for the worker

The program covers workers’ compensation insurance and provides start up funds of $1,000 per placement to cover things such as training and tools.

Norm thanked Amanda and Peter for their presentation and much conversation followed.

Community Advisory Group

CAH are organising a com-bined meeting with all Service Clubs. The concept is to get some sense of what the community sees as the top 3 to 4 priorities in health. CAH board can then work on these ideas. It

is important for the community groups to be able to voice their opinions, needs and concerns openly with CAH Board and staff.

Long Road Appeal has exceeded its initial target of $250,000. There will be a treat-ment centre for Chemotherapy and specialists to counsel those going through treatment. Geoff asked all men not to leave going to the Doctor too late. To act on any signs of change within themselves.

Volunteers Needed

Irwin reported on work in progress at the Reserve. Stone plaques have been put in and seating bolted down. Thanks to those who came to a working B. However, painters are needed, see Irwin. The walk is looking good.

Joseph Paatsch Nature Reserve

Irwin asked if any members could volunteer at Merv Bunts museum. Most of the work is being done by Jack Le Griffon on his own. Please ring the Colac Club and let them know you can help every now and again.

Football Tipping

14 tipsters managed 7/9 this week, a very good score. No-one managed the perfect 9, mainly due to Rich-

mond upsetting Freemantle. Well done to those with

8: John Blane (not bad tipping from Thailand), Stewart Carson, Irwin Sutherland, Lachy Payne and Warwick

Lyon. At the other end of the scale—Roslyn picked her usual 3/9 along with Rachael Wake and Heather Green.
