Time is certainly speeding by with us being on the 2 week eve of our Battle of the Brains Quiz Night. Tickets are starting to sell so we need all members to be encouraging friends, family and work colleagues to get a table together to come along and enjoy a fun filled night.

We also need to be following up with businesses we have approached for sponsorship. We have some fantastic prizes so far. If you do collect any prizes bring them along to Rotary. We are storing them at my home until the night.

You will recall I called for members to submit their suggestions for possible beneficiaries from monies raised at the Quiz Night. Thank you for your suggestions. At the Board meeting this week it was decided some of the money would go to the following beneficiaries:

Kalgoorlie Radio Lollipop

Goldfields Women's Refuge

Leeuwin Ocean Adventure - to fund a student to participate in one of the voyages.

In fact, Ashleigh Tapper from Leeuwin Ocean Adventures, will be our Guest Speaker on Monday night.

The Board also decided that the Club would provide Anne with

$500 to purchase school items for St Jude's School when she visit them in June. This will be in addition to any contributions members make directly to Anne. Monday night will be Anne's last meeting prior to heading to Africa so if you have any items for her to take with her please bring them along on Monday night.

Lin has been working on revamping our website and would like photos of members to include. So Monday night Cherie will have her camera so she can take a photo ready for the site. Cherie did send out a small questionnaire. If you could fill that out and return to Lin it would be appreciated. If there is any information you are not comfortable sharing then please don't feel you have to .

We have collected $760.60 to date towards a Shelterbox. The Board this week agreed to top the amount up to the $1000. So another Shelterbox is being purchased.

We are hoping to finalise the club shirts order Monday so we will all have them ready for the Quiz Night. If you haven't responded to the email sent Thursday please do as soon as you can. Orders are also being taken at the same time for vests and Jackets for members who wish to order them

call.

I will be bringing the next matter up at the meeting Monday night. It has been mentioned to me by some of our Guests over the past few weeks about the number of members who are carrying on conversations whilst Guest Speakers are doing their presentation.

The comments to me were that it is very off putting, particularly when members are talking in their normal speaking voice. This is rude and disrespectful. I have also noticed this is occurring when I am addressing the club about club matters; ie: the Quiz Night and I agree with the comments that have been made to me.

From President Esther (cont) ... So can I ask members to not speak when the Guest Speaker is addressing the club. If a member or I am speaking to the club all you need to do is catch my eye, if you wish to make a comment, and at the first available opportunity I will give you the chance to speak.

Enjoy the rest of your week as you Light up Rotary.

Well what an interesting guest speaker we had on Monday night! Jamie Crombie was sent to Thailand as a Rotary Exchange Student by the Rotary Club of Kalgoorlie, 22 years ago. He came back on Monday night to tell us about his trip, how it had shaped his life and to say Thank You.

Jamie’s time in Thailand obviously had an enormous impact on his life and contributed to the man he has chosen to be. He shared photos from his trip, many wonderful memories and even dressed Angelo in a monk’s robe.

Jamie also bought along his blazer covered in the many badges and memories from his exchange.

New member, Narelle Hodges, gave a vote of thanks on behalf of President Esther and the club.

Quote of the Week

“We are all Rotarians.

There is only one family of us …

Kipling said, ‘East is East and West is

West, and ne’er the twain shall meet.’

We do not recognise that in Rotary.”
