If you are able to assist please let Gloria know. Sunday 25 May is the District Assembly. This will take place between 11.30am and 5pm. I am waiting for confirmation of the venue, but at this stage it looks like it will be the Tower Hotel in the Regency Room (where we hold our meetings). Board Members are asked to attend with all members encouraged to attend. Another week has slipped by and here we are ready for a weekend of activities.

Welcome to our newest members. Ken Maisey who has transferred to the Club from the Rotary Club of Mudgee and his wife Charmaine who is a new Rotarian. We all look forward to your active participation in our Club activities.

Psychs on Bikes arrive in Kalgoorlie on Saturday 3 May. Gloria and I have been working closely with the team to organise the Public Forum in the evening at Rydges. Hopefully, you can come along and hear these dedicated professionals.

There are 20 motorbikes in the convoy with a support vehicle. The team of 30 professionals are volunteers who work in the Mental Health areas of psychiatry, psychology, nursing and drug and alcohol.

I was interested to read on their website that the original idea for Psychs on Bikes originated over a drink in a pub in Kalgoorlie! The forum commences at 6.30pm with the presentations commencing at 7pm.

On Sunday the Psychs on Bikes team are meeting at the Visitor Centre before heading off to the Eastern States via the Superpit Lookout. Mates4Mates will be joining the team and riding with them either to Widgiemooltha or Norseman.

The following weekend we have two

Sausage Sizzles. Our regular one at Retravision and on Mother's Day we will be sizzling those sausages at the Mother’s Day Classic. Thank you to members who have put their hands up to assist on either of the days.

Registration for assembly is on line this year so if you are intending to attend please log onto http://www.trybooking.com/80995 and follow the prompts.

We are now gearing up for the Battle of the Brains Quiz Night on Friday 6 June. Hopefully I will have tickets and posters for the meeting on Monday night.

Thank you to Peter Sweeney for offering to host one of the Students for the Short Term Youth Exchange. George and I will host one of the other students. We need just one more host family for the time they are in Kalgoorlie. If you can assist please let me know.

Enjoy the rest of your week whilst you Engage Rotary, Change Lives.

New Members!! The club welcomed two new members at our meeting on Monday 28 April.

First we had the transfer of Ken Maisey from the Rotary Club of Mudgee, NSW. Ken has been a Rotarian for four years and was the current President of the Mudgee Club when he relocated to Kalgoorlie. Ken has the Classification of ‘Mining - Accountant’ and joins the Vocational Service Committee.

Second we inducted Charmaine Maisey into the Club as a new Rotarian. Charmaine relocated to Kalgoorlie with her husband, Ken. Charmaine will have the Classification of ‘Retail’ and joins the Community Service Committee.

Welcome to Ken and Charmaine!

Do you have any Rotary Club of Kalgoorlie items at home, in your car or at the office?

Please bring along any banners, equipment, etc. to the next meeting you attend so we can ensure everything

is kept together and doesn’t go astray.

Interplast Ambassador, Turia Pitt Visits Laos

In March 2013, Interplast Ambassador Turia Pitt, along with her partner Michael, accompanied an Interplast surgical program to Vientiane, Laos. It was an opportunity for Turia to see and experience first-hand the work of our organisation, which she so passionately supports.

Reflecting on the trip on her blog Turia said “It was both challenging and confronting to see kids and adults alike with such horrific injuries – particularly since the injuries would be easily treatable here in Australia. I was inspired by the resilience, resourcefulness and adaptability of all the patients that the Interplast team treated.

I can’t find the words to describe the Interplast medical team… brilliant just about sums it up. The team had such a great work ethic and performed operations for at least sixteen hours a day. On the two-week trip, Interplast managed to operate on 80 patients.”

Turia returned with even more passion for her role as Interplast’s ambassador having seen the tangible impact that we have. And we’re extremely grateful to Turia and all the other amazing supporters who raise funds and help spread the word about what we do.
