On 17th Brenley reminded us of a number of film nights coming up and the birthday celebraons this coming Sunday—all in the Herald #32. Linda reported that the Quiz Night made $4587 net and thanked members who donated prizes, those who set up and specially Bronwyn for all her hard work. Probably fair enough to say a big thankyou to Linda as well. We had present Bob and Marianne from Hove who came along as Pam’s guests and are prospecve members. Bob is an ex school principal which is a classificaon we could clearly do with given discus- sion in the Vocaonal Commiee last month. We also heard from Barry who is the District Chair of Probus. He informed us that the Glenelg Probus Club was failing due to lack of people willing to take on offices and asked RCSP to help in any way it could, even to extent of starng a new club with a younger group. Don introduced our guest speakers, Di Simmonds, his daughter in law, and Kate Taylor, both registered nurses and midwives. Di thanked the Club for its sup- port and outlined her role in the 2h Project which is all about educang tradional birth aendants to enable safe birth arrivals for the women in the re- mote and isolated provinces of Cambodia. Kate showed members a short video which told a large story of need and highlighted the sad figure of 250 infant deaths per 100000 births as compared to only 7 in Australia. In fact, that figure had been much higher before Kate started her work in Cambodia. Meengs I would like to thank all members who con- tributed and helped make our recent Quiz night one of the most successful in recent years with around 200 people in attendance and over $4,500 raised. It was a fantas- tic result and once again special thanks to Linda Sweeney, Bronwyn Lambert and Bee Siemionow for their efforts towards mak- ing this such a success. The feedback com- ing from other clubs and attendees has all been positive and reflects well on our club; well done to all involved. With February more than half over we are moving quickly towards district assembly and the district conference. I would like all members to pencil in Sunday the 29th March if possible to attend district assem- bly at Murray Bridge. The district training team have put together some excellent pro- grams in recent years and it is definitely worthwhile attending. There is always something there for all members, even if you are not serving as a director or on the board. However, the really interesting and engaging part of the visit was an inspirational story of a passion giving rise to a journey which included feelings of helpless-ness; University and midwifery training; ongoing professional support and assistance, and overcoming bureaucratic frustration and a relationship with the health authority in Cambodia which allows the 2h Project to train up to 400 traditional birth attendants each year. One interesting insight was the ever pre-sent pitfalls that come with cross-cultural service—that to sideline the traditional birth attendants in favour of the skilled birth attendants would mean many women simply not receiving any attention at all. All in all a wonderful story of inspiration, over-coming and what can be done even in adverse situa-tions with determination and support.
And all on a pay your own way and voluntary basis!

Lychies Chinese res-taurant at Holdfast Shores has donated a banquet for 10 people as a prize for our Quiz night.
I will book a few tables for Wednesday 1st April at 7 pm, so that we can support them for do-ing this.
