Rotary Club of Somerton Park Inc. | Chartered 7 April 1988 Club Bulletin The last couple of weeks we have tried a new way of work- ing as a club through having a normal Tuesday meeng prior to the board meeng set aside for commiee meengs. This makes it easier for members and directors to acvely en- gage their commiees and become more involved in the running of the club without having to meet outside our normal meeng hours. As I explained what we were doing at our first commiee meeng session last Tuesday morning I was a lile apprehensive at first, as I observed the blank looks that met my announcement, but was pleasantly surprised at the buzz around the room as the commiees got together and started chang. All members were happily chang away deep in discus- sion and many lingered beyond the end of the meeng. There are things we can improve and I cer- tainly believe we need to get through the first part of our meeng a bit quicker to give more me to the commiees, but overall I believe it was a resounding success. To other maers, the board was mindful that we had built up some funds in the bank and it was decided to donate $500 to OzHarvest, a local food rescue service, $500 to Rywell for local disadvantaged youth, $705 to Foodbank for 15 Christmas Hampers to distribute to needy families via Mark Thomas' churches and Our Lady of La Vang School for stu- dents with intellectual disability , $1,000 to Shel- terBox Australia to aid disaster relief and $3,000 to purchase another 10 prosthec hands for the build a hand project. Our membership at 18/11/14 stands at 28 + 5 honorary members . October – December 2014 Wine Labelling weekend of 24thOctober at Langmeil winery in the Barossa turned out to be a good fellowship day along with being a fundraising event for the club. Facebook is continuing to be used as our vehicle to pro-mote events and achievements and more members are now actively using this.
The first of Fridays @ the Pub meeting was held at Somer-ton Park Surf Life Saving club Bistro on 7th November. This is our combined fellowship + opportunity to bring along friends/colleagues who could be potential members.
The next evening is scheduled for 5th December 2014. It was decided on Tuesday to make this event the club Christ-mas function and it will take place from 6 pm on-wards .Again, a very good opportunity to introduce poten-tial members to our club and we should be inviting friends/colleagues.
Plans are still on to have a fellowship / membership com-bined “Multi cultural theme dinner event” later next year, around April-May.
Focus remains on increasing member base through follow-ing initiatives and taking assistance of all club members.

From the Treasurer
Arrangements have now been finalised for next week's breakfast with the staff at Minda's Trak Furniture to celebrate International Day for Disa-bility. Unfortunately we cannot start at our normal breakfast time so for some you still working or with inflexible working hours, this will not suit. We are still confident we can muster enough members for this to be success. So we need to be at the ven-ue ready to start next Wednesday morning at 7:50 am - staff start arriving between 8-8:30am. The address is No. 16 Aldershot Road, Lonsdale. We will be doing bacon & egg rolls for 40 staff and anywhere up to 20 of us, so we are catering for roughly 60 people. The staff will take us for a tour of the facility as well.

was a key note speaker at the District conference at Warrnambool in March. Jean Jacques will conduct tours of
the Inca sites such as Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Lake Titicaca and much, much
more – not on the normal tourist routes. Trevor McGuirk, Past President of Stirling Rotary Club,
along with partner Andrea, have visited Cusco on 3 occa-sions. In 2010, Stirling Rotary Club, with the support of a RI matching grant and in collaboration with RC Cusco, estab-lished the school bus project at Quishuarani. Trevor and
Andrea organise “Kids of Cusco”, an educational and health program for remote mountain communities. See
