#NPLNSWCLUB WELCOME

Today we welcome the players and officials of the Wollongong Wolves to our spiritual

ground that is the Sydney United Sports Centre for this round 6 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s fixture.

Round 5 saw the boys post up an emphatic victory over the Sutherland Sharks at Seymour Shaw posting in three goals to no reply thanks to strikes from Patrick Antelmi, Chris Payne and Panni Nikas.

We are hoping that the team can continue on its winning ways with three points tonight against a hungry Wolves outfit.

Sydney United 58 would like to thank all its valued sponsors as well as supporters who has assisted with watching our beloved club.

Here’s to victory tonight.

Come on you Reds!

NPLNSW.COM.AU 1ST GRADE MATCH PREVIEW

1ST GRADE - NPL NSW MEN’S

After a sluggish start it appears Sydney United 58 have finally hit top speed ahead

of a clash with Wollongong Wolves at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday.

Jason Culina’s side thrashed Sutherland Sharks 3-0 in a quality attacking display during the previous round which is sure to have Wollongong fans nervous.

The usual suspects of Panny Nikas and Chris Payne have been leading the way but the resurgence of Patrick Antelmi, who joined the club in the off season, provides another weapon for the Reds attack.

While Culina would’ve been happy with his side scoring three goals, it’s the clean sheet he would’ve truly been impressed with.

Wollongong can count themselves very lucky

last round after snatching a last minute win at Hakoah Sydney City East.

After scoring a brace in the win, Peter Simonoski has shown his injury troubles are behind him and now offers a dynamic attacking threat alongside star veteran Yuzo Tashiro.

Despite the win, Wollongong has shown some lapses in recent weeks and will need to be at their best if they are to get the win on Saturday.

Both teams feature talented line-ups but it will be how they operate as a team which will be key to this matchup.

#NPLNSWMATCH REVIEWSSutherland Sharks 0 – Sydney United 58 3 at Seymour Shaw

Sydney United 58 overcame Sutherland Sharks by a 3-0 scoreline in a scintillating clash at Seymour Shaw on Saturday evening.

The match was riddled with audacious shots, brilliant goalkeeping, tricks, flicks, and a spot of controversy in what was a highly entertaining affair for the healthy crowd of spectators in attendance.

Patrick Antelmi opened the scoring for the visitors late in the first half before a Chris Payne spot kick and yet another goal from the in-form Pani Nikas put the game beyond doubt in the second half.

The triumph was United’s third in a single week with their midweek FFA Cup win sandwiched in between last weekend’s victory over the Young Sky Blues and tonight’s clash.

Jason Culina’s well-drilled side got the job done once again on the night while Grant Lee’s boys can hold their heads high after well and truly keeping themselves in the match before a late capitulation put the match beyond their reach.

Hakoah Sydney City East 1 – Wollongong Wolves 2 at Hensley Athletic Field

A Peter Simonoski strike in the final minute has given Wollongong Wolves a dramatic 2-1 win against Hakoah Sydney City East at Hensley Athletic Field on Sunday.

It was an incredible ending to the match with the Wolves seemingly destined to settle for a draw after surviving a late Hakoah flurry.

After taking the lead in the 5th minute through Simonoski, Wollongong were forced on the back foot for nearly 60 minutes as the home side pushed hard for an equaliser.

When Harry Jones struck for Hakoah in the 79th minute the match, Jacob Timpano’s side looked out on their feet but Simonoski was ready to take his chance and fired past the keeper for his second of the match and more importantly the match winner.

NPLNSW.COM.AU FEATURE STORYANTELMI FLOURISHING AT UNITED 58

Wherever striker Patrick Antelmi goes, goals tend to follow, and Sydney United 58 are witnessing this first hand as their exciting signing finds form with his new club.

The 24-year-old is evidently adapting to life at United 58 with three goals in his last three NPL NSW Men’s appearances.

His output coincides with a trio of back-to-back victories, rapidly surging United 58 up the table to brush aside a slow start to their 2018 campaign.

“The first two games the results obviously didn’t go for us,” said Antelmi.

“When we looked at the games we were pretty much all over Marconi Stallions and Blacktown City but shot ourselves in the foot with two slip-ups.

“We were quite calm in the sense that we know what we have and that we are contenders, so we weren’t too phased by it all. We just needed that first win to get us on a roll and that has shown in the last three weeks.

“Fortunately for myself in playing with such good players, it helps me do what I have to on the field and in the last three weeks has brought the goals that I’ve wanted.”

Former Socceroos stalwart Jason Culina brought Antelmi in from Wollongong Wolves as his first signing after taking the reins at United 58, and the flourishing striker will face his former employers this Saturday evening at Edensor Park.

Jacob Timpano’s men will remember the young striker well from his 9 goals in 21 appearances for the South Coast club in 2017.

“It’s always good to see those boys,” smiled Antelmi.

“I made good friends down there last year with (Peter) Simonoski, (Josh) McDonald, and a few of the boys. There’s certainly no bad blood there so it’ll be good to see them.

“Obviously they’ve been doing very well this season which is good to see, and it’ll be an

interesting battle so I’m looking forward to this weekend.”

Antelmi has gone from strength to strength since returning home to Australian soil following spells within the youth setups of Portsmouth, Leeds United, and Wigan Athletic.

His time at Blacktown City featured two Championships and a Premiership before a move to Wolves saw him continue his rich vein of scoring on the South Coast.

While success has followed him in the NPL NSW Men’s competition, Antelmi has his sights firmly set on the Hyundai A-League and beyond.

“My aspirations are to get into the Hyundai A-League and then back overseas,” said Antelmi.

“That’s my biggest goal. For the last two years I’ve put work on hold to focus more of my time on football and training so that when the opportunity comes I will be well prepared to kick on into the professional environment.

“My aspirations for Hyundai A-League and overseas are very high and that’s why my determination is all about football.”

NPLNSW.COM.AU U20’S MATCH PREVIEW

Sydney United 58 are hoping to bounce back from their first defeat of the campaign at

home to Wollongong Wolves at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday night.

The Reds were defeated 2-1 by Sutherland Sharks in round five’s top of the table contest at Seymour Shaw after a near flawless start of the year and will look to get things back on track when the Wolves arrive in Edensor Park.

United 58 frontman Kyle Cimenti represents the principle goal threat for the travelling Wolves who after two wins to open the campaign slumped to their third loss on the bounce against Hakoah last Sunday.

Despite the defeat it’s been a good start to the year for Wollongong who are in sixth and have had a fairly daunting fixture list in the season’s opening month. The likes of Tory Musumeci, who claimed a brace last weekend, and Jordan Nikolovski are capable of causing damage in the final third and will be an attacking pair for the Reds to watch out for.
