PH: 02 4736 1108 Orchard Hills Public School—Self Reliance EMAIL: [email protected] This is the final newsletter for 2019. I would like to say thank you to all our families for making my first 2 terms of being the principal of this amazing school such a privilege. I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and hope all students have a well- deserved break. I look forward to seeing everyone back in 2020 for another wonderful and energetic year. Classes 2020 At this time we are planning to start the year with 6 classes, however we are only a couple of enrolments off forming 7 classes. Teachers are currently forming classes for next year. If you have not done so already and you are planning to leave our school, can you please ring the office and let us know. This helps with class formation for next year. Also if you are planning to enrol a younger sibling or there is a family in the local area wanting to enrol for 2020, can you please let the office know. Demountable classroom We are hoping that in 2020 we will see the arrival of a demountable classroom to cater for an increase in enrolments. I have met with the assets manager and they will be fencing off the area next Monday and will hopefully start the brick piers before the end of next week. Carols Night Thanks to all the teachers, students, parents/carers and community members who attended our Carols Night. It was a great success and there we some very lucky families who won a fantastic prize. A huge thanks to the P & C for organising the event an ensuring everything ran smoothly. Also I would like to thank all the donations from community members, parents and local businesses. It was great to see the choir performing some of the famous carols along with Molly who did a solo performance. Class Teacher position As the appeal process has now been completed I can formally let the community know that Miss Hope was successful in gaining the permanent position as classroom teacher at Orchard Hills Public School. Congratulations Miss Hope! Presentation Day On Tuesday 10 December, we held our annual Presentation Day assembly at Western Sydney University. It was an amazing venue and really gave a formal feel to the event. I hope that all community members enjoyed the morning and I really appreciate your flexibility on the day with a few minor issues that we experienced. Congratulations to all award recipients and thanks to all students for showing excellent manners as an audience. Year 6 Fun Day The Year 6 Fun Day took place on Wednesday 11 December. Thanks to the Year 6 students, Mr Holmes and teachers for changing routines to ensure the day could still go ahead due to the poor air quality. A would like to thank all parents and community members for their donations to our fun day and to the trash and treasure stall, along with organising prizes for the different games. PBL Rewards Day The PBL Rewards Day will be on Monday 16 December at Penrith Ripples. The day will start at 9:30am and will conclude at 1:30pm. A note has been sent out for parents to indicate which areas of Ripples they are happy for their child to participate in. It is important to remember if your child is NOT a confident swimmer, they should be only allowed to go in the splash park and the instructional pool. Mr Holmes will remain at school to supervise the students who are not attending this day. Students who are attending will be transported by bus to and from the venue and will only be allow to be picked up if there is a medical appointment or valid reason provided to the teacher. Have a safe and happy holiday. Daniel McMahon Principal

P & C News School Canteen The school canteen has closed for the year and will not re-open in 2020 until volunteers are organised. What a wonderful Carol’s evening we had at Or-chard Hills. There was singing, dancing, show-bags, face painting, ice creams, drinks and pizza. Santa visited too, bringing a big bag over-flowing with lollies. So many people to thank, from our volunteer par-ent helpers who assisted so generously on the night to the businesses who donated vouchers to the parents and students who donated gifts for the enormous Xmas Raffle and to the staff at Orchard Hills Public School. Thank you also to our P&C members who donate so much of their time and skills to organising, plan-ning and helping to raise funds for our school. A special thank you to Mr Jim Mason who attends our events and is always helping out where he is needed. We wish you a safe, healthy and happy holiday. See you next year. Jenny Camenzuli
