, our online enrollment system, accessible at surf.miracosta.edu. Application processing typically takes two business days.
You’ll use to enroll in your classes, but first, you must log in and set up a password. Do this online at surf.miracosta.edu, after your application is processed.
Enrollment GroupsMiraCosta College is required to allow certain special populations
to have priority registration. Below are descriptions of our enrollment
groups. Your enrollment date and time will also be emailed to you.
Group A: Special populations
Students in this group include:
Veterans receiving VA benefits or who have been discharged from
the military within the last four years.†
Homeless or foster youth.‡
EOPS, DSPS and CalWORKs students.‡
Active duty military.§
To receive and maintain priority enrollment, new and continuing Group A students must do the following:
Complete assessments, orientation and advisement;
Veterans and active duty military must complete a comprehensive
education plan within their first semester at MiraCosta College. Others
in Group A must complete an education plan within two semesters;
Maintain good academic standing with at least a 2.0 GPA;
Complete at least 50 percent of enrolled units; and

Group B: All other matriculated continuing, new and returning students
To receive and maintain priority enrollment, new and continuing Group B students must do the following:
Complete assessments, orientation and advisement;
Complete an education plan prior to completion of 15 units or third semester, whichever comes first;
Maintain good academic standing with at least a 2.0 GPA;
Complete at least 50 percent of enrolled units; and
Not exceed 90 degree-applicable units.
Group C: Continuing, new and returning students who have not matriculated (including those in Group A and Group B)
Group D: Probationary students
Any student who has been on probation for at least two consecutive semesters, including students on
academic probation (GPA-based) or progress probation (based on the percentage of courses completed
with an evaluative grade).
Group E: Students over 90 units
Students who have completed more than 90 units with a grade of A–F, P or NP. Courses considered
“basic skills” will not be counted toward the completion of units in this category (although they will count
toward accumulation of units in Groups B and C).
Group F: Concurrently enrolled high school students
Concurrently enrolled high school students are restricted from enrolling early and may only enroll approximately
one week prior to the start of the term.

Five Reasons to Fill Out the FAFSAThe Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to determine eligibility for the following:
1. Pell Grant and Federal Supplemental Grant (FSEOG) These grants are financial assistance based on need
and other criteria. They do not have to be repaid.
2. Cal Grant These grants are for students who meet the
financial, academic, and eligibility requirements, and
apply on time.
3. Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver
4. Federal Work Study (FWS) Students earn money
through part-time employment on campus.
5. Direct Loans Students must complete a FAFSA before
applying for a loan and are responsible for repayment
when the loan comes due.
Undocumented StudentsIf you are an undocumented student and cannot complete the FAFSA, you may complete the California Dream Act Application at dream.csac.ca.gov.
